A Heritage wonderland

With great weather and location, these sunny islands in the middle of the Mediterranean actually have something more to offer. On a recent holiday we discovered that Malta has an extraordinary amount of heritage structures. In fact officially it boasts the highest density of UNESCO structures worldwide. While the Grand Harbor, fortifications, cathedral and other attractions of Valletta, Malta are enough to keep anyone enthralled. It is the island's beaches that are among the very best in the Mediterranean and allow it to also hold its own among the best beach destinations in Europe. The remarkably clear water, perfect for snorkeling. Strong currents in some places are a downside, but there are lifeguards and warning signs. More typical of the main island of Malta itself are wonderful beaches such as Għajn Tuffieħa. A deep cove, nearly surrounded by rolling natural hillsides, it has warm, clear water and just enough facilities to remain enjoyable but unspoiled.
