2024 Munich Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Munich is the third largest city in Germany. It is also the capital city of Bavaria. The city is covered with natural greenery. It has gorgeous Rococo architecture and a cozy atmosphere. Munich is bright with the afterglow of the former Bavarian kingdom. Marienplatz, the central square in the heart of the city, is surrounded by many gorgeous buildings and it is impossible for people to do anything other than admire its grandeur and style. This place also has a number of delicious local specialties. The tasty beer served by the liter, roast pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe) and white sausage (Weisswurst) are some good examples. On most days, you can sit in a small restaurant or Biergarten drinking beer and eating delicious food. Every year at the end of September, however, the traditional Oktoberfest and the whole city is transformed into a magnificent weeks-long carnival.

Autumn is beautiful in Munich 🗺️
#autumnbeauty
Autumn in Munich is absolutely magical 🍂. The city’s charm really comes alive with the changing colors of the trees lining the streets and parks. I spent most of my time in the famous Englischer Garten, a massive park where the leaves were a vibrant mix of gold and orange. It’s free to enter, and perfect for long, peaceful walks or even just sitting by the river, watching people surf on the Eisbach!
The city center, especially around Marienplatz, looked stunning in the soft autumn light. The architecture feels even more grand with that crisp, cool air and warm sunlight. Plus, if you’re a fan of markets, the Viktualienmarkt is a must-visit for some local flavors, with cozy stalls full of seasonal treats. 🍁 After exploring, I also took a short trip to Nymphenburg Palace (about €8 entrance fee), where the gardens were glowing with autumn colors, making it feel like a fairytale!
Whether you’re wandering through the city’s parks or enjoying a coffee at an outdoor café, autumn here feels like a dream.

Life doesn't give you many four-year periods, and this time I had the chance to watch the top four Champions League matches live in Germany. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! This trip was incredibly rare and memorable!
During the trip, I also had the opportunity to explore Germany, a country rich in history. Witnessing the magnificent architecture of different German cities was truly breathtaking!
Especially during the Champions League, traveling to different cities to follow the matches made the atmosphere even more intense, making the experience particularly exciting and unforgettable!
St. Paul’s Church Munich: A Blend of Historical Elegance and Architectural Beauty
#churches #100waysoftravel
St. Paul’s Church (Sankt-Paul-Kirche) in Munich is a stunning example of neogothic architecture. Constructed between 1892 and 1894, the church boasts an impressive façade with intricate details and a beautiful interior featuring ornate stained glass windows, elaborate woodwork, and a grand altar. Its serene atmosphere and historical significance make it a notable landmark in Munich. Visitors appreciate its architectural beauty and the peaceful ambiance that provides a retreat from the city's hustle and bustle.
Amazing sites to visit in Munich
Palace of Munich 🏰
No trip to Europe is complete without visiting the Royal Palace of Munich, the former residence of the Bavarian royal family. The palace complex consists of several large and small buildings, including gardens, a theater, and a museum reconstructed on the original site. General admission tickets include access to the Palace Museum and the Treasury Museum. For an additional experience, you can purchase a ticket to visit the nearby Cuvilliés Theatre and explore all three sites together.
Munich Municipal Law Library 📚
When visiting Munich, Marienplatz is a must-see. However, did you know that Munich's New Town Hall, located next to Marienplatz, houses one of the most beautiful libraries in the city? The Municipal Law Library is part of the Munich City Hall. The library's interior features dark brown wood materials, lending a sense of maturity and charm that makes visitors lose themselves in the allure of books.
Hackerbrücke 🌉
If you're a railway enthusiast, a visit to Munich's Hackerbrücke is a must. Hackerbrücke is a land bridge crossing the railway near Munich Central Station. Its name comes from the S-Bahn station Hackerbrücke located under the bridge. As the last stop before trains pull into the station, it offers a perfect vantage point for photographing trains. Additionally, Hackerbrücke is a popular spot for watching the sunrise and sunset in Munich. Many locals can be seen sitting on the iron bridge's railing, enjoying drinks and conversation in a relaxed atmosphere.

Munich Old Town Citywalk Copy this route directly!
I really like the city of Munich, the historical charm in the old town is particularly strong, with one church and Gothic building after another, making it very suitable for a leisurely stroll. The main attractions are all in the old town Altstadt.
🏷️Recommended duration: 1 day
🏷️Route: Karlstor👉Burgersaalkirche👉Burgersaalkirche👉Marienplatz👉St. Peter's Church👉Frauenkirche👉Munich Residenz👉Hofgarten👉Odeonsplatz
🌟Marienplatz
The Marian Column, New Town Hall, Fish Fountain, and other landmark buildings tell the story of this city; there are also many restaurants around. Rococo style, great for photos.
【New Town Hall】
The most eye-catching feature of the New Town Hall is the Glockenspiel performance. The carillon rings at 11:00, 12:00, and 17:00 from March to October, with six different tunes, now fully powered by solar energy. We happened to catch the 12:00 performance~ very healing.
🌟Climbing the 'Big Three' in Munich's Old Town
The New Town Hall, Frauenkirche, and St. Peter's Church all offer views from their towers. Since 2012, the Frauenkirche's tower has been closed for renovation, and it is not the best angle. From St. Peter's Church, you can simultaneously view Marienplatz.
🌟Munich Residenz
Equivalent to the Forbidden City, it is the largest palace located within a city in Germany. The interior is grand and great for photos.
‼️Tips:
1. There are no fixed guided tours, but you can rent a free audio guide with English and German introductions;
2. You can take photos during the visit but cannot use flash or tripods;
3. Large bags are not allowed inside, but you can use the free storage at the ticket office;
4. You can only bring a plastic bottle of drink under 0.5 liters inside, no other food is allowed, and there are no restaurants or cafes inside the museum.
🌟Odeonsplatz
Compared to the old town, there are not many tourists here. In fact, the area covered by Odeonsplatz is very large, including the Hofgarten, Feldherrnhalle, and Theatinerkirche. The northern edge of the Hofgarten and the starting point of Ludwigstraße are also included.
🍴Restaurants
Alois Dallmayr: A Michelin two-star restaurant with over three hundred years of history. Great environment and delicious desserts.
🛍️Maximilianstraße
This street is now the most famous luxury shopping street in Munich's old town, and also home to one of Munich's most famous five-star hotels, the Four Seasons Hotel. The eastern section of Maximilianstraße is more historical in appearance, and after crossing the old town ring road, Maximilianstraße becomes wide and grand, with lush green spaces in the middle and harmonious architectural styles hidden behind the trees.

Marienplatz (English: Mary's Square, i.e. St. Mary, Our Lady's Square) is a central square in the city centre of Munich, Germany. It has been the city's main square since 1158.
During the Middle Ages, markets and tournaments were held in the Marienplatz, which was originally called Markth ("market"), Schranne ("grain market") and later Schrannenplatz ("grain market square"). After said grain market was moved into the modern glass-and-iron Schranne near "Blumenstrasse" in 1853, the square received its new name, starting 9 October 1854.

@ THE DEUTSCHES MUSEUM, MUNICH.
The main site of the Deutsches Museum is a small island in the Isar river, which had been used for rafting wood since the Middle Ages. The island did not have any buildings before 1772 because it was regularly flooded prior to the building of the Sylvensteinspeicher.
In 1772 the Isar barracks were built on the island and, after the flooding of 1899, the buildings were reb with flood protection. In 1903 the city council announced that they would donate the island for the newly built Deutsches Museum. The island formerly known as Kohleninsel (coal island) was then renamed Museumsinsel.

THE GLORIOUS NYMPHENBURG PALACE, MUNICH.
This glorious Baroque and Rococo palace, the largest in Germany, grew in size and scope over more than 200 years. Begun in 1662 by the Italian architect Agostino Barelli, it was completed by his successor, Enrico Zuccalli.
It represents a tremendous high point of Italian cultural influence, in what is undoubtedly Germany's most Italian city.
Within the original building, now the central axis of the palace complex, is the magnificent Steinerner Saal (Great hall), extending over two floors and richly decorated with stucco and grandiose frescoes by masters such as François Cuvilliés the Elder and Johann Baptist Zimmermann.
One of the surrounding royal chambers houses Ludwig I's famous Schönheitsgalerie (Gallery of Beauties), portraits of women who caught his roving eye. The palace park is laid out in formal French style, with low hedges and gravel walks extending into woodland. Among the ancient trees are three fascinating pavilions, including the Amalienburg hunting lodge by François Cuvilliés.

Munich Asan Church
Munich Asan Church
Sendlinger Str. 32, 80331 Munich
It's about a 10-minute walk from the square, located on a street-facing spot. From the outside, it doesn't appear to be a very grand church. It's not large overall, decorated in Rococo style. The murals inside are very exquisite. The visit only takes about 10 minutes.

Oktoberfest, sightseeing In City Of Munich
#citywalk
I was in Germany and it happened to be the Oktoberfest. Thus, I took the chance to go to Munich to attend my very first Oktoberfest.
The Oktoberfest is a big carnival that is even bigger and more spectacular then what I had expected. The area has many tents where you can go in and enjoy the food, beer and music. We didn't manage to get a seat inside the tent and sat outside to enjoy our beer. It was fun to see everyone so happy and joyous. There are also many fun rides and snacks stalls for people to try.
I also went to some places of attraction like Marienplatz, Karlstor, Frauenkirche etc.
Schloss Nymphenburg Palace in Munich
Travelled dates btw 8-16 July 2023. There are many old towns, ruined Castle, Palace and Car Museums to visit in Germany. Most interesting places for me are: Heidelberg, Baden Baden and Munich. There is a Must visit palace in Munich not to miss, Schloss Nymphenburg Palace. The palace is huge and would need at least a day to take a slow relaxing walk to enjoy the entire place. Took a hop-on-off city tour bus which had brought us there within 20-30 mins.
Magical Munich Evening Ball
Once a year, Munich hosts a very special Ball at dawn in the English Garden beer garden that starts at 4am.
It’s an old tradition, called Korcherball that was held by the servants who were not allowed to attend the Balls.
Nowadays the tradition remains the third week of July with 10,000 people gathering to share an amazing early morning/late evening time by decorating the tables with chandeliers, bringing traditional food and of course with beer!
An unforgettable experience!

Beautiful Hofgarten Munich
The hofgarten is a beautiful free public park for everyone in central Munich. It is not only just beautiful as the garden is filled with many pretty flowers and plants but the space at hofgarten is big and great for people to take walks and for kids to roam and explore. Besides that, the garden is filled surrounded by many historic buildings and there are gorgeous fountains and artistic structures or statues around. There are many benches around the area and it is even great just sitting down, taking a break and doing some people watching. The whole atmosphere at hofgarten is peaceful and relaxing. Königsplatz Munich Germany
An amazing blend of historical greek style buildings, arts and culture. If you are an arts and history lover, I would highly recommend a visit to the museums in Munich.
This place really makes you feel that you are in Europe with its rich history and facets of Roman and Greek architecture. The open space. On a beautiful sunny day you just want to take it all in. 2 of the buildings are museums which are definitely worth checking out. Also it’s a good area to have a picnic or simply watch the world go by. A must visit if you enjoy history and culture.

Odeonsplatz Munich, Germany
Another square surrounded by designer shops. Nice selection of cafes. And also beautiful & quiet park just between the cafes and shops. For those that fancy a chilled stroll or sit down. Indeed a nice historical place. The street cover with the history feel with the wind breeze on the face which give you a warm felling. One of the must visit place in Munich. Lovely square with some magnificent statues. Unfortunately it is currently either undergoing renovation or they might be setting up for Christmas markets during out visit (not sure). So there were many workers, police officers and a lot of commotion.
