Pavilion of Prince Teng

The Pavilion of Prince Teng is located on Yanjiang Road along the east bank of the Gan River in Donghu District, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, China. It is one of the iconic buildings of Nanchang City and one of the four famous ancient towers in China. Together with Yueyang Tower in Yueyang, Hunan, and Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei, it is known as one of the 'Three Great Towers of the South of the Yangtze River.' The Pavilion of Prince Teng was originally built in the fourth year of the Yonghui era of the Tang Dynasty (653 AD) by Li Yuanying, the younger brother of Emperor Taizong of Tang, who served as the governor of Hongzhou. It became widely known due to the 'Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng,' written by the early Tang poet Wang Bo. Throughout history, the Pavilion of Prince Teng has experienced many vicissitudes, being destroyed and rebuilt several times due to war and natural disasters. As of the latest update (2024), the main structure of the Pavilion of Prince Teng is 57.5 meters high, with a total floor area of 13,000 square meters. Its architectural style is unique, with a 12-meter-high base symbolizing the ancient city wall. Above the base, the design follows a 'three-bright, seven-dark' format, meaning that it appears to have three stories from the outside, but actually contains seven internal levels, including three bright levels, three dark levels, and an attic. The Pavilion of Prince Teng attracts a large number of tourists with its profound cultural heritage and magnificent river views. It is not only a place of longing for literature and art enthusiasts but also an excellent photography spot, especially the Pavilion of Prince Teng under the night lights, which is stunningly beautiful. As a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction and a national key scenic spot, the Pavilion of Prince Teng not only has high historical and cultural value but is also surrounded by rich tourist resources and convenient transportation conditions, making it an important tourist destination in Nanchang City and even Jiangxi Province.
