Nanjing~ Ming City Wall

The Nanjing Ming City Wall was built in the Ming Dynasty, started in 1366 and completed in the late Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. It took 20 years to build and is the world's largest city wall. It forms a pattern of four city walls from the inside to the outside: the imperial city, the palace city, the capital city, and the outer city. It does not follow the old system of taking a square or rectangle for the ancient capital, with unique design ideas, exquisite construction techniques, and grand scale. It winds and lingers for 35.3 kilometers among the beautiful mountains and waters of Nanjing, and the outer wall of the Nanjing Ming City Wall is even more than 60 kilometers. The Nanjing Ming City Wall is not only the largest city wall in China, but also the largest city wall in the world, and it has been selected as the world's largest city wall by the World Record Association. The Nanjing Ming City Wall 'takes advantage of the natural conditions', is built by the mountains and waters, is a model of the combination of Chinese ritual system and nature, is an outstanding representative of ancient capital construction, and is a common cultural heritage of mankind. In 1988, the Nanjing Ming City Wall was confirmed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. In November 2012, it was included in the Chinese application for the World Heritage List as part of the 'Ming and Qing City Walls' project.
