National Heritage Check-in: Ganxi Residence (National Level 6)

Ganxi Residence is located at No. 400, Zhongshan South Road, Qinhuai District. It is a sixth batch national key cultural relic protection unit, from the Qing Dynasty, classified as ancient architecture. Ganxi Residence is composed of four adjacent groups of multi-entry hall-style ancient buildings, with each entry mostly having three bays, totaling more than 300 rooms. The residence was first built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. It features the traditional architectural style of the Huizhou school and incorporates local residential characteristics of Nanjing. Gan Xi, originally from Shexian, Anhui, was a famous literati and bibliophile in the late Qing Dynasty. He became a Jinshi in the 18th year of Daoguang (1838) and dedicated himself to collecting local documents and verifying different records. He authored works such as 'Bai Xia Suo Yan,' 'Bai Xia Za Shi,' 'Tong Yin Sui Bi,' and 'Qi Xia Si Zhi,' which are highly regarded by later historians. Ganxi Residence is now the Nanjing Folk Museum. The entrance fee is 20 yuan, and there are scheduled free guided tours.
