Shuanglin Temple is known as a treasure trove of colored sculptures

Shanxi Pingyao Shuanglin Temple Shuanglin Temple, known as the treasure house of colored sculptures, is located in Qiaotou Village, southwest of Pingyao, about six or seven kilometers away from the ancient city of Pingyao. The outer wall of the temple is not an ordinary outer wall, but a low wall with crenels. There are nearly two thousand Ming Dynasty colored sculptures preserved in the temple, including the world's first Weituo, Shuiyue Guanyin, twenty-six arm Guanyin, Four Heavenly Kings, etc. At present, the Thousand Buddha Hall and the Heavenly King Hall are under repair, and many colored sculptures cannot be viewed, including the Weituo statue praised as "soft in the rigid, literary in the martial, awe-inspiring but not fierce, wise and brave, full of strength, like a strong bow". The craftsmen of the Ming Dynasty did not leave their names, they did not have the titles of artists, sculptors, and artists, but they definitely deserve the highest respect from future generations
