Visit the Ancient Site of Wat Mahathat Worawihan in Ratchaburi City

Wat Mahathat Worawihan is located almost in the heart of Ratchaburi city, on the western bank of the Mae Klong River. Originally called 'Wat Na Phra That,' it was built during the Dvaravati period. Later, when Khmer culture reached Ratchaburi, the central religious site of the city was constructed and modified into a prang (Khmer-style tower) and surrounded by laterite walls to serve as the city's center according to the ancient Khmer cosmological beliefs. Buddhism re-entered the area later, transforming the site into a temple as it remains today.
