New Zealand understands the Maori language, visiting a Maori village

Milford Sound has a beautiful name in Maori. The Maori first discovered Milford Sound and named it Piopiotahi, meaning a place of a thrush or where a thrush sings. Legend has it that a thrush once flew to Milford Sound to lament for its deceased partner. In the face of indescribable beauty, any words are pale; perhaps photos & videos can give you a thrill, but only by going there yourself can you truly experience the excitement and emotion behind it. Between the postcards bought in the shop and the ones you take yourself, there is only a difference of one New Zealand. The Maori, known as 'the children of the land', still maintain their ancestral customs, from weaving to tattooing, from the hongi greeting to the ancient war dance, they hold up their own 'Shangri-La' in their own way.
