BUDDHAGAYA WATUGONG TEMPLE -SEMARANG

Watugong is the name of an area on the southern edge of Semarang City. Its name is as unique as this area's icon, which is a gong-shaped stone. That is why the local people when building roads in this area call it 'watugong' or stone like a gong. This monastery was abandoned for approximately 8 years but is now resurrecting under the guidance of the Indonesian Theravada Sangha. Watugong Buddhagaya Vihara is one of the historical places of the many religious tourist attractions in Semarang. This building has an area of ​​2.2 hectares which is located on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, Pudakpayung, Banyumanik, Semarang. Initially the Buddhagaya Vihara was intended as a place of worship for Buddhists, but over time this place has become a favorite tourist destination for travelers to travel as well as learn about the history that is here. Watugong Buddhagaya Vihara has 2 main buildings, namely Avalokitesvara Pagoda and Dhammasala Vihara which was built in 1955. Avalokitesvara Pagoda has a height of 45 meters and consists of 7 levels. Seven levels alone have the meaning that one will attain sainthood at the seventh level. This building is often used as a place to capture the moment. Meanwhile, to enter this monastery, visitors do not need to buy an entrance ticket, just pay with sincere funds.
