Yunnan Shangri-La Baishuitai

Baishuitai is located on the northern slope of Haba Snow Mountain in Shangri-La, Yunnan Province. It is the largest cold spring freshwater carbonate travertine terrace discovered in China so far, covering an area of about 3 square kilometers. It is 2,380 meters above sea level and is the birthplace of the Dongba religion of the Naxi people. In Naxi, it is called "Baibuzhi", which means "a flower that grows gradually". Because the travertine terraces are layered and white, they look like terraces from a distance, hence the name Baishuitai.
