Yinshan Yue King Mausoleum

The Yinshan Yue King Mausoleum is located on the top of Yinshan Mountain, south of Limuzha Village, Lanting Town, Keqiao District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. It is a large-scale and uniquely shaped mausoleum of the Yue King from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. The mausoleum is carved out of rock and is a "convex" shaped vertical cave rock pit wooden coffin tomb with a total length of about 100 meters. The tomb pit is 46 meters long and 15 meters wide, and the tomb passage is 54 meters long and about 6 meters wide. There is a moat around the outside, covering an area of more than 100,000 square meters, fully demonstrating the characteristics of the Yue King Mausoleum system. It is speculated that this may be the tomb of Yun Chang, the father of Yue King Goujian, and it has a history of more than 2,500 years. The uniqueness of the Yinshan Yue King Mausoleum lies in its burial customs and architectural skills. The tomb pit is dug down from the rock layer on the top of the mountain, and the sealing soil mound is huge, with a soil volume of 20,000 square meters, showing the grand scale of ancient architecture. The interior of the tomb uses huge square wood, presenting a narrow and long two-sided sloping design, which is also unique in archaeology. There is a moat around the outside of Yinshan, and the entire mausoleum covers an area of more than 100,000 square meters. The wooden coffin is made of huge square wood into a narrow and long two-sided slope shape. The cross-section of the tomb is triangular. The existing wooden coffin is basically intact, with a huge scale, a total length of 34.8, a width of 6.7, and a height of 5.6 meters. It is divided into front, middle and rear rooms. Each room is equipped with door sills and door beams, as well as 500px thick wooden partitions. The square wood is lacquered on three sides, and the lacquer surface is like a mirror when unearthed. There is a 2.5-meter-long passage at the east end of the tomb, which is also made of square wood in a two-sided diagonal shape, and its height is slightly lower than that of the tomb. The middle room is a coffin bed with a huge single wooden coffin, which is rare in China. It is 6.1 meters long and 1.12 meters in diameter. There are three square woods under the coffin. The anti-corrosion filling and construction technology of the mausoleum is exquisite, and the bottom of the pit is paved with a 1.8-meter-thick layer of charcoal. The outside of the wooden coffin is protected by 625px thick, more than 140 layers of bark, and then filled with 1 meter thick charcoal, and then protected by 125px thick bark. The tomb pit is all filled with green ointment rammed earth, and finally covered with a funnel-shaped sealing soil mound with yellow-brown clay. In 1998, the Yue King Mausoleum was rated as one of the "Top Ten New Archaeological Discoveries in the Country". In June 2001, it was announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit.
