Old and new in Singapore’s Tanjong Pagar district

#traveldiaries #100waysoftravel #urbanexploration #architecture Full of architectural and cultural landmarks and possessing a rich history, it’s definitely worth spending some time wandering around Singapore’s central Tanjong Pagar district. The Peranakan shophouses (many converted into restaurants and cafes) sit amongst the modern glass towers, creating a fascinating and vibrant contrast. Where to Stay 🏠 : Mondrian Singapore Duxton, Duxton Hill 💞Reasons to Recommend: colourful and aesthetically pleasing, lots of photo spots, plus this area is full of restaurants with Michelin Bib Gourmand awards! Interesting fact: the name Tanjong Pagar is Malay and means "cape of stakes", because apparently the area was once a fishing village covered with mangroves and the fishermen used stakes to mark their boundaries. 🎣
