From there, instead of the busy Aleko–Cherni Vrah line, I dropped west on the forest service track toward the Dragalevtsi Monastery and found the half-buried Cold War bunker (object 308, local hikers call it "the listening post") — concrete entrance tilted sideways, iron door gone, inside two rooms with vent slits aimed at the Sofia valley. No sign, no plaque, just boot-worn earth. The descent to the monastery takes 2h30 from Kopitoto; the monastery itself (14th c., restored) has a 5 BGN candle donation and a fountain with drinkable water. Carry 1.5 L — the bunker stretch has no spring. Cards work at Aleko hut café, cash only at the monastery shop. Error I made: I started at 1 pm and hit the monastery at 5:50 pm just as the gate closed — time your descent to arrive before 5. My view: Vitosha is treated as a Sofia escape valve, but the Kopitoto–bunker–monastery line is the only segment that tells the 20th-century story underneath the beech forest.
