World-renowned university! Stanford University, officially named Leland Stanford Junior University and commonly referred to as "Stanford," is located in Palo Alto, within the southern San Francisco Bay Area of California, USA. Adjacent to the high-tech hub of Silicon Valley, it is a private research university and a member of the Global University Leaders Forum. Stanford University was established in 1885 and began formally admitting students in 1891. Covering an area of about 33 square kilometers (8,180 acres), it is one of the largest universities by land area in the United States.
