Solitary Beauty Peak stands at the top

The Solitary Beauty Peak is located within the Jingjiang Prince City in the center of Guilin, now the Wangcheng campus of Guangxi Normal University. The peak rises abruptly, steep and lofty, with a majestic presence, and is known as the 'Pillar of the Southern Sky'. On the mountain, there are structures such as the Xuanwu Pavilion, Wenchang Pavilion, God of Wealth Temple, and Lingxiao Pavilion. In feudal times, ordinary civilians had no chance to set foot there. Climbing to the top is the best viewing platform for a bird's-eye view of the entire Guilin landscape. Xuanwu of the Xuanwu Pavilion is one of the four spiritual creatures in ancient Chinese mythology, also known as the turtle-snake, a spiritual being composed of a turtle and a snake. The Four Symbols in Chinese traditional culture refer to the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Xuanwu, representing the four directions of east, west, south, and north respectively. Xuanwu of the north corresponds to the Kan trigram in the Bagua and is associated with water in the Five Elements, symbolizing the ultimate yin among the Four Symbols, the winter season, and also the northern land of heaven. The original meaning of Xuanwu is profound and dark, with 'xuan' meaning black and 'ming' meaning yin. During the Song and Yuan dynasties, Zhenwu was elevated from the Northern Palace Xuanwu to the esteemed position of Zhenwu the True Sovereign, and further to the throne of the Xuantian God, gaining increasing prominence.
