Taiyuan's old streets and the nation's unique 'Chanting Tower'

I strolled through the old streets of Taiyuan, saw the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, and noticed the homogenized renovations, which weren't very surprising. However, I did come across the nation's only 'Chanting Tower', which I initially thought was a stage for plays, only to learn that it was actually a place where the results of the imperial examinations were announced during those times. The Chanting Tower in Taiyuan was built in the early Ming Dynasty. The day before the results of the imperial examinations were announced, a clerk would chant out the rankings from the top of the Chanting Tower, and then, surrounded by a crowd at the entrance of the tower, proceed to the Gongyuan (Imperial Examination Hall) where the list of successful candidates would be posted at the entrance. It can be said that as soon as the names were called out, it turned the fates and lives of countless students who had studied hard through the cold windows.
