Mount Neko 🇯🇵

#traveldiaries Mount Neko forms the western peak along the rim of the Azumaya Volcano (四阿火山, Azumaya-kazan) caldera. This volcano was active 900,000–300,000 years ago. Mount Nekodake is a 2,207m mountain located on the border between Suzaka City and Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture. It is located on the ridgeline that runs northwest from Azumayasan (2,354m), one of Japan's 100 famous mountains, and many climbers traverse the two mountains. There is also a circular route from Sugadaira Ranch on the western foot of the mountain, so you can enjoy a variety of climbs even by car. The mountain is also rich in alpine plants, and the ridgeline is decorated with various flowers from early summer to early autumn. Among them, the umebachisou, which blooms in September, has a beautiful, delicate white flower and has been selected as one of the 100 famous flower mountains. From the summit, where a stone shrine is enshrined, a panoramic view of the mountains including the Northern Alps spreads out, and the ridgeline from Azumayasan, with its beautiful frost-covered trees, is also popular during the snowy mountain season. #100waysoftravel #japan
