LAWU MOUNTAIN

The original name of Mount Lawu is Wukir Mahendra. According to legend, Mount Lawu was the first kingdom on the island of Java led by a king who was sent from Khayangan because he was stunned to see the natural beauty around Mount Lawu. Since the time of Prabu Brawijaya V, the king of Majapahit in the 15th century until the kingdom of Mataram II, many ceremonies were held on Mount Lawu. When Mount Lawu still has a close relationship with the Surakarta Palace and the Yogyakarta Palace, especially in the month of Suro. At that time, the relatives of the Palace often made pilgrimages to sacred places at the top of Mount Lawu. There is a mountain meadow of the Festuca nubigena mountain range that surrounds a mountain lake in the old crater before the last post towards the peak at an altitude of 3,200 m above sea level which is usually dry in the dry season. It is said that climbers who bathe in this place, all their wishes can come true. But you should not try to bathe at the top of the mountain because the water is very cold. The grass that grows at the bottom of this lake is yellow so the water looks yellow. This lake is flanked by the peak of Hargo dumilah with other peaks. The area of ​​​​the Yellow lake is about 4 hectares. There is a spring called Sendang Drajad, this water source is a well with a diameter of 2 meters and a depth of 2 meters. Even though it is at the top of the mountain, the water never runs out or runs dry, even if it is taken continuously. There is also a cave called Sumur Jolotundo towards the top, this cave is dark and very steep down to about 5 meters deep. This cave is sacred by the community and is often used for meditation There is a building around the top of Argodumilah called Hargo Dalem which many pilgrims stop by. Around Hargo Dalem, there are many buildings made of zinc that can be used for overnight and shelter from rain and wind. There are food and drink stalls which are very helpful for climbers and pilgrims who are tired, hungry, and cold.
