Yorkshire

Yorkshire is located in the northeast of England, United Kingdom, and is the largest county in the country, boasting a rich history of nearly two thousand years, known as 'God's Own County'. Yorkshire is famous for its cultural heritage, as well as being an important center for industry and agriculture. The county flower is the renowned Yorkshire white rose. King George VI of Britain once proudly stated, 'The history of York is the history of England'. The historic Yorkshire, being the largest county in Britain, was once divided into three regions: North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, and East Riding of Yorkshire. In 1974, it was reorganized into North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Humberside, and Cleveland. Most of Yorkshire's land is managed by the Yorkshire and Humberside region, but to this day, Yorkshire remains a widely recognized traditional geographical term. The city name of New York in the United States was chosen by the people who discovered the New World in memory of Yorkshire, England. Famous cities in Yorkshire include York, Leeds, Sheffield, and others.
