Most Recognized Landmark of Xi'An: Big Wild Goose Pagoda

#chinatrip This pagoda is an architectural marvel. It was built of brick, but cement was not used at all. During the construction of this pagoda, the "bracket" style typical of traditional Chinese architecture was also used. The seams between the layers of bricks and the "prisms" on each side of the pagoda are very clearly visible. The tall majestic pagoda building with its solemn appearance and simple style is indeed a good example of traditional Chinese architecture. The sanctuary has three statues symbolizing incarnations of Shakyamuni Buddha and it is located on the lower tier. A bell from the Ming Dynasty is kept in one of the buildings adjacent to the tier. The weight of the bell is 15 tons. This building is more than 1300 years old, and this is a rare chance to "touch with your hands" the ancient history of China. Located in the temple of Qian (Great Kindness and Courtesy), 4 km south of the urban part of Xi'an, this is one of the most famous Buddhist pagodas in China. The temple complex, which houses the large Wild Goose Pagoda, includes beautiful gardens and marvelous architectural buildings. Although many of them were repeatedly destroyed, they were later restored, giving them their original appearance. The buildings are made of gray brick, with glazed roofs. In one of the many gardens or courtyards of the temple, it is pleasant to relax and admire the surrounding ancient architecture. The temple complex is filled with ancient exhibits. Hidden from prying eyes, the stupa forest is the place where prominent monks are buried. Stupas, or gravestones, are made very elegantly, they were placed on the temple grounds several centuries ago. The large Wild Goose Pagoda stretches to a height of more than 64 meters and has 7 floors. Furthermore, the big recreation area is located around this place offering numerous routes for walking and many options to spend time for leisure.
