Nanhulake Academy

Nanhulake Academy is located on the north bank of Nanhulake in Yi County, Anhui Province. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the people of Hongcun built six private schools on the north bank of Nanhulake, also known as 'the Six Academies by the Lake'. In the nineteenth year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty, these six academies were merged and named 'Yiwen Family School', also known as 'Nanhulake Academy'. Nanhulake Academy is an ancient academy with traditional Hui-style architecture. The academy consists of six parts: Zhidaotang, Wenchangge, Huiwenge, Qimengge, Wanghulou, and Zhiyuan. Scholars such as Wang Daxie, who once served as a Zhongshu in the Qing government's cabinet, a minister to the UK and Japan during the Republic of China, and acting Prime Minister, and Li Xiaojiao, a contemporary renowned scientist and one of the experts in the development of the Aoxing launch, were all enlightened here.
