A random visit to Datong and Yungang Grottoes. One of my fav days of the trip so far

A great day out, not far from the city of Datong, Yungang Grottoes. We took 2 local buses (very easy) to reach the grottoes. The final stop was the grottoes itself. Don't forget your passport for non native visitors, they were very strict on seeing these before they issued our tickets. You can take as little or as long as you like. There are over 40 grottoes which are accessible, several you can enter which were amazing. We spent a good few hours here. We have packed snacks but plenty of places to purchase food and drink once inside. Toilets very clean and several of them. Lovely park area to relax and plenty of benches in the shade to stop and rest. On the way put we noticed a lot of restaurants bit we headed back to the city to eat closer to the hotel. So much history in this place and such a respect for the skill of the masonry that has gone into these carvings years ago. Would highly recommend! #yunganggrottoes #historicallandmarks #makingmemories
