Zamora's Second Largest Church

Western Spain ~ Zamora (Region) This is the largest church in the city after the cathedral. The building was constructed in the 11th century on the site of the old Church of Saint Leocadia, and has undergone continuous expansion and renovation, incorporating various architectural styles. The church originally had three naves, but was expanded and remodeled in the late 15th century, leaving only one nave with a slender spire vault at the top. In the early 18th century, Joaquín Churriguera remodeled the tower and built the western entrance. Another treasure discovered in the sacristy is a magnificent 16th-century Flemish triptych, a gift from King Charles I during his visit to Zamora in 1522.
