Mount Putuo, one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism

Mount Putuo, a national 5A-level tourist attraction, is one of the first batch of key national scenic spots, a national demonstration site for civilized scenic tourism areas, a national demonstration unit for the protection of tourist consumer rights, an ISO14000 national demonstration area, and a global outstanding ecological tourism area. It is also one of the four great Buddhist mountains in China. Mount Putuo is located in the Lotus Ocean east of Hangzhou Bay, at the mouth of the Qiantang River and in the southeastern sea area of the Zhoushan Archipelago. The scenic area includes Mount Putuo, Luojia Mountain, and Zhujiajian, covering a total area of 41.95 square kilometers, of which the main island of Mount Putuo is 12.5 square kilometers. The highest peak, Foding Mountain, is 292 meters above sea level. Mount Putuo not only has a long history of Buddhist culture but also boasts rich island scenery. It was referred to by ancient people as 'the Buddhist kingdom in the sea and sky,' 'the sacred place of the South Sea,' and 'the most serene place in the human world.' Mount Putuo is embraced by the sea, with golden sands stretching far and wide, beautiful scenery, and a pleasant climate. Famous attractions include Chaoyin Cave, Fanyin Cave, Chaoyang Cave, Pantuo Rock, Er Gui Listening to the Law Rock, Baibu Sand, Qianbu Sand, Puji Temple, Fayu Temple, Huiji Temple, South Sea Guanyin, Dacheng Nunnery, and others. The transportation is convenient both internally and externally, and the tourism environment is excellent. Every year on the 19th day of the second, sixth, and ninth lunar months, there are Guanyin incense meetings and pilgrimage festivals, which attract throngs of pilgrims and tourists from home and abroad. 'There is a fairy mountain on the sea, and the mountain lies in the midst of nothingness,' Mount Putuo, with its magic, sanctity, and mystery, has become a world-renowned tourist destination.
