Belle Isle Park
A very nice island park in the middle of Detroit lake. Detroit river is a river divided Detroit and Windsor and serve as a border between United States and Canada. It is also a river connected Lake St Clair and Lake Erie, two large lakes in the Great Lakes. The island is not far away from Detroit and is a safe place to visit. It is recommended to drive to the park since the public transportation is really limited. There is only one bus line that goes to the island and the frequency is terrible. Also, considering the size of the island, you need to walk a lot if you do not have a vehicle. Riding a bike though is a good idea. It’s not a long ride departing from downtown. Though most people drive to the island.

Soon grand and majestic again
Possibly an ode to Detroit's former glory and a microcosm of itself, the majestic and more than a century old Michigan Central Station stood as a beautiful building in Corktown.
The former train terminus was for a long time abandoned and a popular area for people looking to film and photography ruins/abandoned buildings. It was also the site of many popular blockbuster films and movies.
The building was recently bought by Ford and is in the process of being renovated and restored. As a result it no longer holds that eerie and mysterious feeling it once did when it was abandoned. Nonetheless, it's absolutely fascinating to see how such a grand and majestic building could be left to ruins and highlights the seriousness of the issues the city faced/is still facing. It also shows the city's resilience and its desire to constantly press ahead and refurbish itself. There is nothing much in the surrounding area but Corktown does warrant a visit as well.
Overall a very interesting building to photograph and visit from the outside; although hopefully one can visit the inside soon enough.

Detroit: the Motor City
Detroit is often a forgotten city in the USA. It does get a bad rep for being a city of urban decay. However beyond this gritty image there lies a city to be explored and a city that's reimagining itself.
The downtown core does have its fair share of decaying and abandoned buildings but it still does have many fine examples of art deco buildings that date back to the booming years of Detroit as an industrial powerhouse. As such it's interesting to see this contrast of the post and present.
The city has a Greek town where you can still find many Greek restaurants. A bit further you'll find the Renaissance center which could be seen as a world away from the gritty side of Detroit. It's a very modern and clean center that's owned by GM and right on the riverside, making it also a very relaxing place to sit and relax.
Overall, Detroit is a safe enough city. Use common sense of course especially in more rundown parts of the city. When all is said and done, Detroit has a vibrant downtown scene with picturesque majestic buildings.

Detroit Pizza
The Detroit pizza pilgrimage/USA road trip may be on hold for a while, but in the meantime there's the amazing @hiptoeatsquare. Deep square pizza with tons of cheese, crispy edges and covered in ricotta, pesto and red sauce... so much sauce that I was literally wearing it. For the next England game, I'm getting a whole tray delivered! 🍕💯⚽️

Detroit is quite the place!
I don’t know why, but Detroit gets a bad rap it does not deserve. Sure, like every city it has bad sections but the downtown is great. With Americans tallest hotel ( Marriott) to the GM headquarters it is a great place for a trip. Also stop by the Ford museum

US Travel - Mackinac Island, Michigan, is an island like a peach blossom. There are no cars on the island, only horse-drawn carriages. Everyone travels either by walking, or by horse-drawn carriage or by bicycle.
When I first got on the island, I was attracted by the carriage here. It was like a carriage in the fairy tale world, traveling through the small town. Sitting in a carriage ring tour made the hooves spread throughout every corner of the island, and of course left my footprints.
The island has an excellent ecological environment, and all kinds of small animals can be played without any worries. I am as slow as the island.
is like a time back in Mackinaw Island. It is like bringing you back to the United States in the 5/60s, letting you live a simple and happy life on the island, disturbing in our time. Its really hard to get in society.
The most beautiful is not rainy days, it is every day spent on Mackinac Island.

Detroit: The Cradle of the Automobile and the City of Artistic Revival.
Detroit, located in southeastern Michigan along the Detroit River, is an important member of the Great Lakes urban agglomeration. Since its founding in 1815, Detroit has experienced a tortuous journey from prosperity to decline and revival, becoming a microcosm of American industry and urban change. 🏭📉🚀
🚗 The Glory Days of the Motor City 🏆
When people think of Detroit, they first think of its glorious history as the "Motor City." It was once home to the headquarters of the Big Three automakers: General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler, and the world's first urban highway was born here. In the early 20th century, Detroit became one of the wealthiest cities in the world, with a population of 1.8 million and an annual automobile production of more than 3 million, making it the core of the U.S. auto industry. 💼💸🚗
💔 Decline and Challenges 📉
However, the good times did not last long. With changes in the global economic environment and the decline of the U.S. auto industry, Detroit began to decline. Especially after the 1980s, the rise of Japanese and European cars put enormous competitive pressure on Detroit's automakers. Coupled with the intensification of racial tensions and economic stagnation, Detroit's population migrated in large numbers, and the economy plummeted. By 2013, the once-glorious Motor City officially declared bankruptcy, becoming the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. 😢💔💰
🌱 The Road to Revival 🌱
Despite the difficulties, Detroit has not given up hope of revival. In recent years, the Detroit city government and citizens have worked together to gradually improve the urban environment and economic conditions through technological upgrades, stabilizing housing prices, and strengthening property tax collection. This is detroit wayne county airport, McNamara Terminal. First time as a transit traveller here. In the middle of the terminal there is a black fountain (pay attention to the shop in the background, coffee lover probably wont miss it). the other photo is a in-door tram, running on top of elevatef tracks. McNamera terminal is a long rectangle shape, thus provides room for such facility.

A Guide to Watching an NBA Game in Detroit from Toronto
Basketball game tickets have seen a significant price increase over the years. Once, you could catch a game with stars like Kobe and the Lakers for just $100 in the lower bowl, or see the Spurs' Duncan for as little as $30. Today, a good seat in the lower bowl can cost up to $200.
In December, I spontaneously decided to take a trip to watch an NBA game in Detroit.
**Tickets:** Lower Bowl Row 3 - $60 per person.
**Transportation:** Self-drive.
**Accommodation:** One night at The Inn at 97 Winder, near the stadium, with a double room for $200 and free parking.
**Group Composition:** Two passionate basketball fans.
Given the game's start time of 7:30 PM and end around 10 PM, we chose to stay close to the venue. Here are our key considerations:
1. While staying in Windsor might have been cheaper, we preferred the convenience of avoiding customs after the game and also wanted to visit the Ford museum the next day.
2. Staying further from the venue would have required a longer drive or dealing with the potentially chaotic post-game traffic situation.
3. Detroit's safety concerns are well-documented, so we preferred to minimize our time in the city and return to the hotel promptly.
We didn't need to leave early the first day, so I set off after lunch, picked up my friends en route, and after about 3.5 hours from Mississauga, we crossed the border over the Ambassador Bridge. Once in the US, we were in downtown Detroit, checked into the Renaissance Center, and by 6 PM, we were settled at the hotel.
Dinner nearby allowed us to enter the stadium early, or we could have purchased food inside.
For $60, we secured seats in the third row to watch the Pistons take on the Grizzlies. At the time, Morant was still the Grizzlies' star, known for his dynamic play and dunking ability. The value of player cards I had invested in was a stark reminder of how much player value can fluctuate. If we were watching the Raptors play the Grizzlies at the Maple Leaf Gardens, that seat would have been worth at least $1,000. Watching at the Pistons' home court is still a great way to get a close-up view of your favorite players at a fraction of the cost!
The following day, we visited the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation before heading back. (There wasn't much else to do in Detroit.) After lunch, we made our leisurely return to Toronto, arriving before dinner.
If you're an NBA fan, enjoy long drives, looking to save money by sitting close to the action, and aren't deterred by Detroit's security concerns, mark your calendar for the next season and let's plan our next trip!
