Hangzhou Summer Hiking Recommendation - The Ancient Huizhou-Hangzhou Trail
This ancient trail, which was established during the Tang Dynasty, served as a trade route for merchants from Huizhou and Zhejiang. From Hu Zongxian, Hu Xueyan to Hu Shi, countless notables have left their footprints on these bluestone steps in pursuit of education and business.
Tracing back to the millennium-old path of the Tang Dynasty, it combines culture, history, and scenery. The route is moderately difficult and safe, making it a classic must-walk for hikers. With streams and waterfalls, it's also a great summer hiking destination! I've organized the guide for the reverse route this time. Take a look!
📍Navigation: For the reverse route, head to 'Zhechuan Village' (Lin'an, Hangzhou), and for the regular route, go to 'Yonglai Village' (Jixi, Xuancheng).
🅿️Parking: There is a parking lot at the ticket office, but spaces are limited. On weekends and holidays, there are more visitors, so it's recommended to park in the empty spaces in the village.
🪪Ticket: 62 yuan
🚶🏻♂️Suitable for: Children over 5 years old, hiking beginners
🏞️Route: Enter from Lin'an, exit from Jixi, the whole journey is 14 kilometers, with a total ascent of 400 meters, fewer uphills, and more downhills (the route is not very intense, friendly for outdoor novices)
Journey Experience:
【Yonglai Village - Lantian Ao】: The most climbing and tiring part. The scenery along the way is average.
【Lantian Ao - Xiaxuetang】: Lantian Ao is a high point where you can overlook the entire mountain view, and many people take photos here. After that, it's mostly downhill. Before reaching Xiaxuetang, there is a section with loose stones, so be careful.
【Xiaxuetang - Shichating】: From Xiaxuetang, there is a spacious and flat road, then you need to climb again. At a certain height, you will see different scenery, with streams, reservoirs, and small waterfalls.
【Shichating - Jiangnan's First Pass】: Arriving at the Xiaoyao Valley scenic area, you can see steep steps like a ladder to heaven and a man-made plank road winding around the mountain waist like a dragon in the valley. This part is the most beautiful and a little surprise for the reverse route.
【Jiangnan's First Pass - Exit】: It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the exit. Before reaching Jiangnan's First Pass, there are two paths, left and right. It is recommended to take the left path towards the plank road across the valley, where you can get closer to the waterfall and take better photos.
VTips:
1. At the entrance, there are bamboo walking sticks for sale, priced from 2 to 20 yuan, which are quite necessary for beginners.
2. The crossing route is suitable for group tours, as it's not easy to get a car or return.
3. When we arrived at Zhechuan Village, we encountered an old lady who was aggressively selling bamboo poles and raincoats... If you don't buy, she won't let the car go, which is shown in the last picture.
4. It rained on the day we went... it was a bit slippery, so anti-slip shoes are very necessary. Several girls fell.
5. The peak season for the Huizhou-Hangzhou Ancient Trail is in April and May, when the mountains are full of azaleas and rhododendrons.
The Huizhou-Hangzhou Ancient Trail is quite beautiful, and overall, I had a great time. The most beautiful scenery can only be appreciated with your own eyes. The reverse route also feels very cool and is very suitable for summer hiking. Highly recommended!
Spring Journey on the Ancient Huizhou-Hangzhou Trail
Date📅: March 9, 2024
Exploration route: Reverse journey on the Ancient Huizhou-Hangzhou Trail, starting from Yonglai Village in Lin'an, passing through the One-Line-Sky, Blue Sky Pit, Upper Xuetang and Lower Xuetang, Huangmaopei, finally arriving at the First Pass of Jiangnan, and ending at the Huizhou-Hangzhou Ancient Trail Visitor Center.
🚶♂️The reverse journey takes about 6 hours in total, covering a distance of 15KM, with an ascent of about 400 meters and a descent of about 800 meters (the reverse journey puts some pressure on the knees, while the forward journey is more physically demanding).
🌦With recent abundant rainfall, the streams and mountain gullies are brimming with water. On this rare sunny day, the warm sun feels like spring, the spring breeze caresses the face, the pool water is as green as jade, and the rushing streams are like snow, making it the most beautiful time for the mountain and wild scenery.
🍃Leave No Trace outdoors, everyone is responsible, let's protect the beauty of this natural place together.

Longchuan Scenic Area Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Anhui, you are confused if you don't promote this picturesque boat-shaped ancient village
🏡'A dream of Huizhou in a raincoat, blue bricks and black tiles, horse head walls'
Those ancient Huizhou villages scattered in southern Anhui,
Always carry some mystery, and more surprises.
·
🚘This self-driving tour in southern Anhui in early winter,
Accidentally drove to Longchuan Village in Jixi Longchuan,
Here is surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing water on one side, since the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Hu family has lived here.
Jixi Longchuan Hu's family has produced famous people since ancient times, the famous anti-Japanese general Hu Zongxian in the Ming Dynasty, the red-top businessman Hu Xueyan, and the modern scholar Hu Shi all came from here.
How to play?
✅The entire Longchuan scenic area is not large, a water street runs through the village, ancestral halls, archways, and ancient bridges are located on both sides of the water street, and it takes about 1-2 hours to walk.
·
✅The entire Longchuan Village is shaped like a dragon boat, also known as the 'boat-shaped village'.
·
✅Don't miss the buildings in the village, especially the Longchuan Hu's ancestral hall and the Yishi Shangshu archway built in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. Longdi Fengjie, Jinshi Lane, Longchuan Neishuikou, Qixing Pond, Du Xianfang, Fang Yantang are all worth seeing.
·
✅The wood carving of the ancestral hall and the brick carving of the archway are very exquisite.
·
✅The stone bridge at Neishuikou is as beautiful as a painting when photographed with distant mountains and trees.
·
✅When you get to Neishuikou, remember to walk to the right along the shore, there is still a single wooden bridge on the water, which is a bridge that people on both sides of the river still walk every day.
·
❗Tips:
1️⃣Online tickets need to be bought one day in advance.
2️⃣Each ancestral hall requires ticket checking, so keep your tickets.
3️⃣It's even more beautiful when the rapeseed flowers bloom in April.

It's not that the Sichuan-Tibet route is unaffordable, but that Xuancheng offers better value for money!
If you like the scenery of southern Anhui and don't want to be in crowded places,
you must check this out—Anhui Xuancheng
A truly niche travel destination, with distant green mountains and nearby babbling streams along the way, and at the foot of the mountains are the pastoral sceneries of ancient Huizhou villages
✅Must-visit attractions:
Yangchan Tulou:
Earth buildings among the mountains, scattered in an orderly fashion. Due to inconvenient transportation, the mountain people have been using local materials for hundreds of years, paving roads with bluestone, building bridges with slabs, and constructing houses with earth, which is very characteristic
Renli Ancient Town:
The ancient ferry dock from five hundred years ago, the town's architecture is mainly composed of dark tiles, blue bricks, and white walls, known as 'the small Jixi County, the large Renli Village'
Longchuan Scenic Area:
A 5A scenic spot, on the way to this area you can see many small bridges crossing the river, the scenery is very good, and you can choose to visit the ancient town
Zhangshan Grand Canyon:
Hiking through the canyon, you can enjoy the strange peaks and rocks, dense forests, waterfalls along the way, and a rich variety of rare animals and plants
Chujia Beach/Xijin Ferry:
Traveling on a bamboo raft, shuttling through the sea of bamboo, in the misty rain season or morning fog, you can watch the thin mist lingering in the mountains and lakes
Wan Zhe Tian Road:
A beautiful mountain road driving route, where you can enjoy terraced fields, southern Anhui villages, sea of clouds in the mountains, the scenery is very beautiful
Jingtai Mountain:
Featured in Li Bai's poem 'Sitting Alone on Jingtai Mountain', the mountain has four characteristics: poetry, Buddha, tea, and wine
Xuan Paper Cultural Park:
The gray-white buildings, like a stack of paper, are very photogenic
Peach Blossom Pool:
'The water of Peach Blossom Pool is a thousand feet deep, not as deep as Wang Lun's affection for me' It is recommended to visit after the rain or in light rain, the lake is shrouded in mist, like a fairyland
🏃🏻My travel itinerary:
Day1:
Yangchan Tulou—Longchuan Scenic Area—Renli Ancient Town—Zhangshan Grand Canyon
Day2:
Wan Zhe Tian Road—Ningguo—Xijin Ferry—Chujia Beach—Xuancheng—Jingtai Mountain—Jing County
Day3:
Xuan Paper Cultural Park—Peach Blossom Pool (beautiful scenery in rainy weather)—Chaji Ancient Town
📝 If there are not many cars on the southern Anhui Sichuan-Tibet route, you can take this route, Ningguo directly to Jing County, Jingtai Mountain can be skipped if it's not interesting, there are many attractions on the southern Anhui Sichuan-Tibet route
🍲Food: Xuancheng stinky mandarin fish, Jixi tart, Ningguo baba, iron pot stew, Shuiyang three treasures, steamed meat with rice flour
🏠Accommodation: Book on the same day in the county/city area
🚗Transportation: Self-driving tour, there is also public transportation
Jixi Longchuan is a place of outstanding people and a spiritual land
It is the ancestral temple of China.
I originally went there with the intention of visiting the Hu's Ancestral Hall and paying tribute to Hu Zongxian. Unexpectedly, I found myself in a peach blossom utopia. The mountains are clear, the waters are pure, and the air is filled with the fragrance of flowers and the songs of birds. Bridges span the flowing waters, and paths crisscross the landscape. It truly left a deep impression on me. Among the ancestral halls I have seen in China, the Hu's Ancestral Hall stands out in terms of scale, status, and intricacy. It is simply awe-inspiring.
Jixi Longchuan Ancient Village
China's Longchuan, located 11 kilometers east of Jixi County in Anhui Province, is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction and a provincial scenic spot. It is the ancestral home of Comrade Hu Jintao, the former General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
An ancient village dominated by the Hu surname, traditional Huizhou-style buildings line both sides of the river, creating a picturesque scene with quiet lanes, white walls, and black tiles, all embodying the essence of an ancient Huizhou village.

Zhangshan Grand Canyon Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Listen to advice! Get up early for a great time
During the mini holiday, I was lured to the Zhashan Grand Canyon by online pictures, but thankfully I did my homework in advance and had a fantastic experience!
To put it succinctly:
☞Get up early❗ Bring water! Bring socks!☜
☞☞Definitely start out very very early☜☜
📍Attraction Address:
Drive to the parking lot at the entrance of the scenic area. It is not recommended to park at the parking lot for the scenic shuttle bus at the foot of the mountain, as it takes at least half an hour to walk up from there.
🚗Transportation to the Attraction:
I saw many people saying that parking and entering the mountain was difficult, so I got up early and arrived at the scenic area at 8 am. There were plenty of spaces in the parking lot at the entrance, with staff arranging parking, and I smoothly took the scenic shuttle bus straight to the mountain top. When I left the scenic area at around 10 am, the parking lot at the entrance was already starting to queue up, and many people parked in the distant parking lot and walked up.
👍️Must-Visit Spots:
There is basically only one road up and down the mountain, and indeed taking the shuttle bus for half the journey saves some effort. The staff recommended that if there is no queue for the bus going up the mountain, take it first, as usually, there will be more people waiting for the bus down from the mountain top.
🎟️Ticket Information:
Tickets are 50💰, and the shuttle bus is 10💰
💗Other tips:
It turns out that getting up early really does mean fewer people! It had just rained yesterday, so it was particularly cool in the mountains. There are no places selling water or food on the mountain, so it's advisable to bring your own. There are also some for sale at the entrance of the scenic area, but not many varieties. You will definitely want to play in the water in the canyon, and seeing such beautiful streams, even adults can't resist going in for the experience, so bring some tissues or an extra pair of socks to change into if they get wet. It is not recommended to wear holey shoes, as the mountain paths can be a bit slippery and unsafe!
The Zhanshan Grand Canyon in southern Anhui is the top choice for a local tour
The scenery is beautiful with fewer people, which is not tiring! During holidays, if you don't want to travel long distances, visiting such small attractions is really great!
The advantages of Zhanshan Grand Canyon are:
1️⃣ Although it requires walking, it's only a one-way 2 kilometers, and you can choose to only walk downhill, which is not tiring.
2️⃣ Full of negative oxygen ions, along the way you can see rocky mountains⛰️ green forests🌲 caves🪨 waterfalls and streams🌊 especially the water, which is very clear. It's great for wearing stream trekking shoes in the summer to play in the water and catch shrimp and fish with a net.
The only downside is that it's quite tiring to carry children up the mountain, you have to hold the child the whole way hhh, the stone road is a bit steep for children under 3 years old.
Scenic area information:
🎫Ticket: 49 yuan when purchased online, the exchange window will only give you a small ticket, be sure to keep it safe, don't lose it.
🚗Shuttle bus: 10 yuan, children also need to buy a ticket, charged per person. It's only for a one-way trip, not round-trip. No matter how many people, they will only give you 1 ticket, which will have the number of people written in traditional characters on it.
🕰Tour time: 1.5h-3h, it can be longer or shorter, I will explain later.
💘Tips:
1️⃣ Try to get to the mountain as early as possible, the scenic area currently opens at 8 am, and parking is free. The advantage of arriving early is fewer people, and it's also more likely to rain in the mountains, so the climate will be better in the morning.
2️⃣ If you have good stamina, you can choose to walk both ways, which takes about 2h-3h, depending on how long you rest along the way. If you want to save energy and take it easy, you can take the shuttle bus to the mountain from the starting point, and then walk all the way down. My friend brought a child, so they chose this method, and it only took 1.5h, and they also took a long rest in the corridor to avoid the rain.
Zhangshan Grand Canyon
The Zhangshan Grand Canyon is so beautiful. After the rain, the air in the scenic area is exceptionally fresh. Arriving at 8 am, there is no need to queue, and there aren't too many people. We chose to walk up the mountain and take a car down. It's very comfortable, with no particularly steep roads. The whole journey takes about an hour and a half. When we returned, we found that the traffic police had already started to direct traffic at the base of the mountain.
Xikou Mountain Grand Canyon is a less-known scenic spot in southern Anhui
Wondering where to go for the weekend, I thought about finding a place within a two-hour drive, so I zoomed in on the map and started choosing. I came across a city that neither of us had visited or knew much about - Xuancheng. After picking the city, I began to look up scenic areas and routes recommended by netizens and locals, and then decided to go to the Zhan Mountain Grand Canyon in Jixi County. Since it's a four-hour drive one way, we decided to stay overnight in Jixi County at the Huizhou Guli Hotel. On Sunday, we woke up naturally, had breakfast, and set off. We bought the park tickets online for 98 yuan for two people. The park has shuttle buses, 10 yuan per person for a single trip. We chose to hike up the mountain and take the bus down. The leisurely hike and photo-taking took about 2 hours in total. The steps on the mountain are not steep, but the water flows rapidly, so safety is important.
On the way back, the road down the mountain passes through a narrow country lane, but it's smooth all the way. Since it was the off-season, there was no congestion. We rested twice at service areas, and the total return trip took about 4 hours.
The scenic area is definitely worth visiting. Oh, and remember! Do not litter! The place is super beautiful, and there are enough trash bins. Just hold onto your trash for a moment, and you'll find a bin after walking a bit. Such beautiful scenery must be protected!!

Jixi Museum Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Anhui • Huangshan | Explore the comprehensive guide to a dream-seeking journey through Huizhou
Embark on a unique dream-seeking journey to Huizhou! (Complete Guide)
Huizhou is named after the Huixi and Huiling in Jixi County, where 'Hui' traditionally means beautiful, hence the name 'Huizhou'. This exploration of Huizhou starts from the Huizhou Prefecture She County, strolling through the ancient city of Huizhou, visiting the Xin'an River, heading to Jixi, stepping onto the ancient Huizhou-Hangzhou trail, crossing Anhui and Zhejiang, and seeking dreams in Huizhou!
**Itinerary (3 days and 2 nights)**:
**Day1**: Arrive at She County North Station by high-speed train, 👉 to the Huishang Mansion (the mansion is on the other side of the river, so we visited it first, the ticket price is not low 💰80 yuan, the architecture and furnishings have a long history, but it's quite disorganized, not recommended without a guide as it's hard to understand 😔) ➡️ Huizhou Ancient City (city tower, Qiao Tower, Xu Guo Archway—Huizhou Museum—check in at the Fanghua County Committee Courtyard 🎬) ➡️ Yuliang Ancient Town, Yuliang Dam (feels great to stroll in the evening, walking along the riverbank, the ancient town does not require an entrance fee, and it's not commercialized 🎈) ➡️ Night tour of Huizhou Ancient City
**ps**: These attractions are not far from each other, reachable by walking 🚶♂️ or riding a shared electric scooter 🛵. The ancient city of Huizhou also serves as a pedestrian street, which may feel quite commercialized. It's lively at night with many people dancing in the square, and there are convenient dining options 😋; the city tower and museum are worth a visit 👍.
**Day2**: Breakfast at the famous Tiger Stove snacks in Huizhou Ancient City, tastes good 👍👉 Xin'an River Landscape Gallery (take a minibus or bus 938 from She County Hotel/She County Square to Shendu, minibus 💰10 yuan, bus 💰6 yuan, there's a bus at 8:50, get there early to catch the 10:30 boat tour of the Landscape Gallery, the next one is not until noon, the tour lasts 3h, the scenery on both sides of the river is nice, the water was a bit yellow due to rain the day I went, usually it should be even more beautiful 😉. After the tour, wait for the minibus or bus at the drop-off roundabout, about 1h frequency, get off at She County Square, then take the bus to She County North Station, buy a high-speed train ticket 💰9 yuan to reach Jixi North Station) ➡️ Jixi County Museum (nice architectural design but the exhibits are average 😔)
**ps**: You can choose to stay in Jixi County 🏠 or go to Longchuan Scenic Area. The last bus to Longchuan is around five o'clock, a taxi would cost around forty yuan, Longchuan Scenic Area does not charge an entrance fee after 5 pm, but you can't enter the ancestral halls. Although it's a 5A site, it's not very large, I missed the last bus and didn't make it to Longchuan 🤣.
**Day3**: Huizhou-Hangzhou Ancient Trail, about 12 kilometers one way, not very difficult, 👉 the downside of self-driving or independent travel is the need for a return trip 🚗, the essence of the trail is near the Anhui entrance, you can walk from Jiangnan's First Pass - Shi Cha Pavilion to Xiaxue Hall and then return, about 12km. If you have more stamina, you can walk to Lantian Ao and return, about 18km, there's not much to see from Lantian Ao to Yonglai Village. From the county town or Longchuan Village, take bus 601 or 602 to the Huizhou-Hangzhou Ancient Trail, return by taking bus 602 across the road from the scenic area parking lot or bus 601 at the parking lot entrance, there's one at 4:30 and another after five o'clock, from the Anhui entrance to Yonglai Village it takes about 4 and a half hours one way, to Lantian Ao about three and a half hours 😉.

Jixi·Xuancheng
As a county town with a population of only 170,000 in China, Jixi County has a rich historical and cultural heritage. Jixi Museum has witnessed its history and culture. The Jixi County Museum can see the history and culture of one of the six major counties in Huizhou and the feudal history and culture of China for thousands of years. The Jixi Museum not only displays the history and culture of Jixi County, but also conveys the history of the feudal dynasty for thousands of years. The ancient Huizhou, represented by Jixi, is a place to secularize the life of the Emperor's House. Jixi Museum is full of cultural relics, and it is one of the most characteristic county-level museums in China's county cities. In the Jixi County Museum, you can see many antiques about labor production and life in ancient China. These are the wisdom of the admirable old ancestors. In the continuation of the museum, there are many different kinds of Huizhou buildings. It is better to say that the Huizhou buildings are an outstanding representative of the history of Chinese architecture. It is the crystallization of the wisdom of the ancient Chinese, or the originator of the world's garden architecture. At this Jixi Museum, you can learn about so much Chinese history and culture. Its content and value can be compared with the Dunhuang Museum. Therefore, the Jixi Museum is very worth seeing.
Such a wonderful and so exciting Jixi Museum is itself a place of exquisiteness.
Its no wonder that its designer Li Xinggang commented that in such a completely contemporary urban museum, people can still experience a close connection with their previous memories and traditions, because those have long The existence of mountains and rivers and trees has become a witness and a medium that connects the past, the present and the future."
