It was originally established to provide shelter to elephants that are old, sick or injured🏥. This is known as one of the best places for volunteer tourism and is an activity I have always wanted to experience✨. Upon arrival, I couldn't wait to meet these adorable elephants 😍. The staff first introduced us to the safety rules and how to establish a friendly relationship with the elephants, which made me feel more at ease🛡️. Next, we started the day's activities, starting with preparing food for the elephants🥕🍉. We washed the fruits and vegetables and cooked glutinous rice for the old elephant. During the process, we could feel the elephant’s expectation, which filled my heart with warmth💖. Afterwards, we took the elephants to the river to bathe. This is the part I'm most looking forward to! Enjoying the mud bath with the elephants and scrubbing them, such close contact made me feel their gentleness and intelligence🤗. The elephants were playing in the water and spraying water, which made me laugh 😂. This experience not only made me understand the life and habits of elephants better🐘, but also made me feel the connection with these great creatures. This route was called the "Death Railway" because countless workers died during the construction process🛤️. Walking to the tracks on the Bridge on the River Kwai, I can feel the heavy history it carries. Standing on the bridge, overlooking the rushing river, I can't help but feel a lot of emotions in my heart🌊. I walked on the bridge and imagined the workers who struggled to survive. I was in awe of the sad stories they left on this land🙏. There are also some monuments and museums nearby, which introduce the history and construction process of the "Death Railway" in detail, which gave me a deeper understanding of this history📚. Shortly after crossing the bridge, I saw a sign in Chinese directing me to go downstairs to find the local vendors selling Burmese goods. The cafe is small but has really nice ambience and chic decor. I love the scenic views on the upper floor, a view of beautiful landscape and mountain, it was cozy and refreshing. Moreover, the environment is absolutely a wonderfull place for taking insta- worthy photos. The Bridge on the River Kwai was built during World War II as part of the Japanese military’s railway route from Nong Pla Duk Junction Station, Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province to Thanbyuzayat City, Burma. In some parts of the railway route, the bridge had to be built over deep and rapid water. The Japanese army chose to build the bridge over the Kwai Yai River at Ban Tha Makham (at that time it was called Ban Tha Ma Kham), Tambon Tha Makham, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province, because the ground below was dense. At first, it was built as a temporary wooden bridge, 100 meters away from the current bridge. It took 3 months to build. Later, it was built as a permanent steel bridge by assembling steel from Malaya. The tracks were laid by British prisoners of war. The bridge is 300 meters long and has 11 sections with concrete piers. It was officially opened on December 25, 1943. The ambiance around the area was rather serene and tranquil, inviting visitors and locals to hang around the area, take a brisk walk around the area and just spend some time taking in the view!
