2024 Khon Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Hiking and waterfall viewing
The Tad Somphamit rapids are a sequence of gushing white water rapids on Don Khon Island. It also goes by the name Li Phi, which means "Spirit Snare" since it is thought that the waters operate as a trap for evil spirits.
The opportunity to observe local fisherman setting bamboo traps here to catch fish as they swim downriver is also a feature of the rapids. The falls are part of a larger park with additional attractions such as Li Phi Beach, a short stretch of sand with a rustic café that is the perfect spot to watch the water rush by.

Relax and unwind in the tranquil island
The two largest islands in Si Phan Don are Don Dhet and Don Khone Island, which are connected by a historic bridge. The tranquil countryside scene is completed by fresh air buffaloes grazing grass and youngsters playing on the Mekong River. From the beginning to the end of the island, there is just one trail. Each of the village's little dwellings has a hammock or an old swing in the corner of the garden. If you stay here overnight, keep in mind that the water and power will be cut off at 11 p.m., and you may be disturbed by mosquito and insect noise.
Hiring a bicycle to tour Don Khone Island is also a fun activity to do here. When you're traversing a green field, you'll have plenty of time to appreciate the cold breeze on your face. Relaxing activities include admiring the trees at the end of the trail or fishing on the riverbank. On the riverbank, you might find an excellent French restaurant, an Italian restaurant, or a basic Lao noodle eatery. All of these things may be found on this small island at a fair price.

Waterfall on Mekong river
#familytrips2024 This is a real adventure!
At the entrance you don't pay an entrance fee, just a tip that the bridge can be repaired.
Anyone who dares to do this will be rewarded with beautiful nature. The farmers keep their goats on the many small islands in the middle of the waterfall, every area is used, incredible, great to see. There are many small paths around the area and you can explore some cool photo spots.
Historic Bridge Don Det - Don Khon
#familytrips2024 It's a landmark of 4000 island(Si Phan Don). The bridge connect Don Kone and Don Det island. The view from the bridge is good. Beautiful old french bridge connecting the islands of Don Det and Don Khon. No fee it's free. Easily accessible from the north of Don Det or the south of Don Khone by bicycle. Excellent for having a view of the channel dividing the two islands. Nice and various restaurants surround the two sides of the bridge.
The secret land of Laos, the slow life of escapism on the four thousand beautiful islands
[Four Thousand Islands] Located in Pakse, Laos, although there are countless small islands in the "Four Thousand Islands", only a few large islands are inhabited all year round. Don Det is a popular small island on Si Qian Mei Island. It is one of the islands together with Don Khong, the largest island in the north, and Don Khon, just across the bridge. The three islands most suitable for tourism.
Take a "yacht" in the river branch of "Four Thousand Beauty Islands" to shuttle among unknown islands. You can enjoy the scenery of palm trees and sparse houses on the Mekong River as the river breeze blows.

Transportation 🚌: My friend didn’t want to charter a car, so I ordered a combined transport from a street travel agency to experience Sleepingbus. The bus departed from Vang Vieng in the afternoon and went to Vientiane. The sleeping bus departed at 19:00 in the evening and arrived at a certain town at 6:00 the next morning. Then I transferred to a minibus and then to tutu. Anyway, I was dizzy after the sleeping bus and kept getting off and on the bus. Know how to get to the hotel.

Accommodation🏨: Pon Arena Hotel (located on Dongkong Island. At that time, the conditions were the best on Siqianmei Island, so I chose to stay there. Later, I found that except for us, the hotel was all elderly European and American people, and the young people had all gone to Dongde Island. But the hotel The best coconut fish I have ever eaten and the best mojito I have ever drunk)
-
Recreation: Eat and drink every day, pet the cat, and then take a boat to the other two islands to wander around, see waterfalls, watch the sunrise... Use the boss stereo to act as a DJ and sing country karaoke.
-
Tips📋:
1. Siqianmei Island is too far away and its accessibility is too low. Public transportation was too hard, and because I was pregnant that day, I was scared to think about taking it back for the next few days (I had booked a return Sleepingbus ticket at that time). In the end, because I was too afraid of this trip, I temporarily chartered a bus to Bangkok while waiting for the bus in town. Of course, it was another thrilling story.
2. But the scenery is really beautiful and it’s definitely a good place to relax.
3. Young people can live on Dongde Island regardless of accommodation conditions. It should be a lot more fun.
Trekking to the waterfall
Khon Pa Soi Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the Si Phan Don Islands, and it's also a great place to visit for a day trip because it's usually quieter than the other waterfalls on the island. The main reason for this is that getting out here takes a long time.
The trek to the waterfall is one of the nicest parts of the experience, since you must cross a rickety bridge to get there, which will lead you to Don Po Soi Island. It's about a 200-meter trip out to the falls from here, but it's well worth it to brave the bridge and the hike to see this incredible cataract with a plunge pool at its base.
