2024 Khon Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in September)
Hiking and waterfall viewing
The Tad Somphamit rapids are a sequence of gushing white water rapids on Don Khon Island. It also goes by the name Li Phi, which means "Spirit Snare" since it is thought that the waters operate as a trap for evil spirits.
The opportunity to observe local fisherman setting bamboo traps here to catch fish as they swim downriver is also a feature of the rapids. The falls are part of a larger park with additional attractions such as Li Phi Beach, a short stretch of sand with a rustic café that is the perfect spot to watch the water rush by.

Relax and unwind in the tranquil island
The two largest islands in Si Phan Don are Don Dhet and Don Khone Island, which are connected by a historic bridge. The tranquil countryside scene is completed by fresh air buffaloes grazing grass and youngsters playing on the Mekong River. From the beginning to the end of the island, there is just one trail. Each of the village's little dwellings has a hammock or an old swing in the corner of the garden. If you stay here overnight, keep in mind that the water and power will be cut off at 11 p.m., and you may be disturbed by mosquito and insect noise.
Hiring a bicycle to tour Don Khone Island is also a fun activity to do here. When you're traversing a green field, you'll have plenty of time to appreciate the cold breeze on your face. Relaxing activities include admiring the trees at the end of the trail or fishing on the riverbank. On the riverbank, you might find an excellent French restaurant, an Italian restaurant, or a basic Lao noodle eatery. All of these things may be found on this small island at a fair price.

Waterfall on Mekong river
#familytrips2024 This is a real adventure!
At the entrance you don't pay an entrance fee, just a tip that the bridge can be repaired.
Anyone who dares to do this will be rewarded with beautiful nature. The farmers keep their goats on the many small islands in the middle of the waterfall, every area is used, incredible, great to see. There are many small paths around the area and you can explore some cool photo spots.

How can one do justice to what comprises the experience of a Peter Sommer holiday in a few words? Imagine a holiday that combines cruising through sublime waters in a Turkish gulet, engaging in discussions (not just hearing a lecture!) with your expert guides who provide both context, imagination and interpretation for what you are seeing, walking along ancient roa through the still extant remains of millennia old civilisations and every day sharing freshly-prepared meals made with local produce with your guides and fellow guests. Add to this the opportunities you have to simply relax and enjoy the facilities onboard - and on the water - and getting to know the convivial group of like-minded people who comprise your fellow guests and you have some flavour of the 'magic' that is a Peter Sommer holiday. Unforgettable and a reminder of what travel is meant to be about.
Trekking to the waterfall
Khon Pa Soi Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the Si Phan Don Islands, and it's also a great place to visit for a day trip because it's usually quieter than the other waterfalls on the island. The main reason for this is that getting out here takes a long time.
The trek to the waterfall is one of the nicest parts of the experience, since you must cross a rickety bridge to get there, which will lead you to Don Po Soi Island. It's about a 200-meter trip out to the falls from here, but it's well worth it to brave the bridge and the hike to see this incredible cataract with a plunge pool at its base.
