Located in Kuranda, a 40 minute taxi drive from Cairns central, this experience is a must do if you have a spare day! Our tour started at 11am, with a bush walk experience, koala photo, koala encounter experience, boat tour and dance. Due to rain on the day we were not able to throw the boomerang however it did not impact the amazing and knowledgeable experience we had, speaking to the indigenous people and learning about their ancestors and connections to the land. Things to be mindful of: - You MUST book a return private car or bus journey before you go (preferably with your ticket on the website). We got stranded at the center as we booked UBER there and no way back. We ended up getting the number of a local who lived nearby who dropped us back to Cairns for some money. - The Koala photo took about 10 seconds and there is no patting or touching the Koala after due to the amount of time Koalas ‘work’ per day. - Check the weather as rain can impact some experiences! #adventuremoments #australiatravel #localguides #couplestrip

Approximately 30 minutes from Cairns, North Queensland you will find the beautiful little village of Kuranda. During our visit we took time to visit BirdWorld. What a fantastic experience! From the moment you walk into the enclosure the cheeky colorful birds begin interacting with you, some will even talk with you. The colorful birds are captivating. You can access Kuranda by car, public transport, Skyrail or Train. We drove privately by car but if you have time I recommend considering the Scenic Railway or the Skyrail. The Scenic Railway and Skyrail leave from different locations. I highly recommend to plan your day well as most shops in the village close at 3:30pm. The Kuranda Railway, which takes you leisurely between Cairns and Kuranda in 1 hour and 45 minutes, will let you see the famous scenery that was used in the TV drama "From the Train Window of the World" along the way! When you arrive at the station, there are many unique shops such as markets lined up, a zoo where you can hold a koala and take a commemorative photo, and a butterfly sanctuary where you can see many rare butterflies, including "Ulysses", which is characterized by its bright blue wings! There are also many restaurants and ice cream shops, so you don't have to worry about lunch! All seats on the train are reserved, and you can exchange your voucher for a ticket at the reception desk and enter the platform.
