2024 Myeong-dong Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in October)
Korean street food 🥘
#eatlikealocal
My trip to Seoul was unforgettable, especially when it came to Korean street food! Wandering through Myeongdong, the lively night market scene was a dream for food lovers. From crispy hotteok (sweet pancakes) to spicy tteokbokki (rice cakes), the variety of flavors is insane! Each dish costs anywhere from ₩1,000 to ₩5,000 (about $1-$4), making it affordable to try a little bit of everything.
One of my favorites was the odeng (fish cake skewers) served with hot broth—perfect for a chilly evening. And the Korean fried chicken? Unreal! Sweet, spicy, and crispy, it’s nothing like what you get back home. After feasting, I took a walk to Namsan Tower, just a short trip away, to enjoy the night views of Seoul. Eating my way through the street stalls was honestly one of the best parts of my trip to Korea! 🍜🍢🌶️

Affordable Michelin-approved restaurant in Myeong-dong!
Located in the heart of Seoul, “Myeong-dong Gyoja” is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience traditional Korean comfort food. This is a family-owned place operating since 1966.
The simple yet flavorful dishes, coupled with the restaurant’s long-standing reputation, make it a culinary landmark in Seoul. 🇰🇷
Their menu is quite limited with only 4 options:
1. Kalguksu 칼국수 (knife-cut noodles)
2. Mandu 만두 (dumplings)
3. Bibim Guksu 비빔 국수 (spicy cold noodle dish) - I highly recommend this one, it’s my favorite 😍
4. Kong Guksu 콩국수 (soy milk noodle soup)
✔️Their signature home made garlic-laden kimchi is to die for! Best kimchi I’ve ever tried in my life!🤩
The service is fast and efficient. The staffs are used to high turnover and large crowds, so you can expect to get your food quickly even during busy times.
📝Tips⬇️
•Don’t go during busy hours, instead, dine at around 2:00pm (lunch) or around 8:00pm (dinner) to avoid long queues as this restaurant is very famous and located in the bustling shopping district of Seoul, making it easily accessible for shoppers and tourists exploring the area.
•They have a branch in Gangnam located in CoEx Mall.
•Pay as you order.
•Unlimited kimchi.
⏰ opens from late morning until evening.

Visiting Seoul is very good choice since you will experience a lot of happiness and adventures.
Korea offers you more than just great destinations to visit but good foods, and peaceful mind with great views and cultures. However not all Korean can speak English, it makes the communication a bit difficult for us. Also if you are not fair enough some will look awkward to you, with my toned skin.
Seoul South Korea
Seoul was an amazing experience. We would love to come back again. The food and the shopping was amazing. Elderly there are so kind and the young once are all non-chalants. Every corner you go theres shops. Learn some basic word to greet because it's all about respect. hello and thank you is fine but be honest about not knowing anything just say "only english-". Walking is a must or else you will miss what is Seoul is about. Walking is also a main thing to don't forget to stop over to 7 Eleven for a drink after a long walk. 7 Eleven is everywhere and you can sit down and eat as well. Download papago for translation and k.travel for taxi for foreigners. There's no junk food in Seoul it's hard to find one. They are all healthy eaters you'd be lucky to find McDonald or kfc.
In Seoul in August.
I got a cheap ticket the day before during the Obon holidays and suddenly went to Seoul from Fukuoka Airport.
The photos are from Sulbing Cafe in Myeongdong and Onion Cafe in Seongsu. I have visited other branches of these cafes several times, but this was my first time visiting these particular locations during this trip. Both are recommended for those who love sweets, so if you are going to Seoul, why not give them a try? The Anguk branch of Onion Cafe is popular among Japanese tourists, but at the Seongsu branch, I hardly saw any Japanese tourists as it was close to evening.

Seoul: A perfect blend of Tradition and Modernity
Seoul is a city that truly has it all! From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the seamless blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge modernity. Every day spent here was filled with new discoveries, amazing food, and unforgettable experiences.
One of my favorite spots was Gyeongbokgung Palace. Walking through the grand gates and exploring the beautifully preserved architecture, I felt like I was stepping back in time. The changing of the guard ceremony is a must-see, offering a glimpse into Korea’s royal past.
But Seoul isn’t just about history – it’s also a city of innovation and vibrant street life. The shopping districts like Myeongdong and Dongdaemun are bustling with energy, offering everything from the latest fashion trends to delicious street food. Speaking of food, I couldn’t get enough of the Korean BBQ and the endless variety of street snacks. Every meal was a new adventure for my taste buds!
And then there’s the nightlife. From trendy bars in Itaewon to the lively streets of Hongdae, Seoul knows how to keep the fun going well into the night.
Seoul is a city that’s constantly evolving, yet deeply rooted in its culture and history. Whether you’re exploring ancient palaces or enjoying the modern urban vibe, there’s always something exciting to experience.#seoul #gangnam #Meyongdongstreet

A great feelings in cold last Nov/Dec at Seoul for one week stay in a very good location Myeongdong area. I.will plan for another one next year!!
Finding something that isn't available at the 12-story Daiso is harder.
If you go to Myeong-dong, there's a 12-story Daiso.🤗
Not the main Myeong-dong branch, but the Myeong-dong Station branch. I went to check out this tall Daiso building.
They have cosmetics, household items, candy, snacks, sports goods, stationery, toys, dishes, cups, party supplies, gardening items, pet supplies, character goods, and more.🐱
Each floor has different sections.
Since it's in the expensive Myeong-dong area, each floor isn't very spacious.
There were many popular Sanrio character products, and I was especially able to snag the VT Riddle Shot, a hot item in Daiso cosmetics.🤭
Since Myeong-dong is a popular spot for foreigners, it's a great place to buy affordable Korean souvenirs.🪁
If you visit Myeong-dong, be sure to check out the 12-story Daiso.
Tip: If you have bad knee joints, I recommend using the elevator.👍

I just walked along the streets of Myeong Dong and came across this food street. The restaurants are near to each other so you can take your time to consider and choose your meal!

At almost 11 PM Myongdong was still super lively and crowded. I’ve been on this trip for a week now but it’s the first time that I visited this famous area. It’s hard to actually buy anything of substance if you’re not certain what exactly you came there to buy, because there are that many people. But it’s super fun to just buy small stuff and try new delicious street food!

Let's go to Dooki in Myeong-dong!
#familytrips2024
Located on the second floor of a secluded building in Myeong dong, we went to Dooki earlier for lunch to avoid the lunch crowd who will be coming later. Similar to our last visit, there are various Tteokbokki, fishcake and vegetables for the hotpot, and also some fried side dishes to go with the hotpot. However, we felt that the variety was much lesser than before. Even so, considering the price, it's still quite reasonable. Great place for families to eat, although the other restaurant, Manyo Tteokbokki will be much more preferred.

This is the place where you can buy a lot of things while enjoying the night food market
Olive young is running a promotion all year round so check that out for you skin care products. Don’t forget to try the grilled cheese butterred scallops for as low as 1000won for five pieces. Explore the streets of Myeon-dong area for atleast half day or whole day. Be aware of your surroundings at it will get crowded at the evening
