Casa Amatller - Modernist jewel in Barcelona
Standing right next to Gaudí’s famous Casa Batlló, there is a modernist architecture jewel that sometimes goes unnoticed: Casa Amatller.
This building was designed by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch as the residential home of the Amatller family, a wealthy Catalan family in the chocolate industry.
That’s the reason why nowadays it is still possible to enjoy the chocolate creation of Amatller in the ground floor of the building, there is a cafe and chocolate shop.
The visit to Casa Amatller is interesting and a lot less busy than for example Casa Batlló or Sagrada Familia, which also helps to make it more enjoyable
The guide explains about the inspiration and symbolism in the house as well as the history of the family who used to inhabit it.
Definitely it is a very recommended visit to avoid the crowd that gathers around Gaudí’s artworks and still enjoy the modernist architect in the city of Barcelona.

Chocolate at Casa Amatller
Casa Amatller is one of the Modernist style monuments that sits at Barcelona’s main promenade, Passeig de Gracia, right next to one of Gaudí’s masterpieces, Casa Batlló.
Casa Amatller was designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, one very important name in Catalan modernist architecture style, at the level of Antoni Gaudí. It was the residence of the Amatller family, a wealthy family in the chocolate business.
Still to this day the Amatller Chocolate brand is very popular around Spain, and in the souvenir shop/cafe at the ground floor of the building you can purchase a very special for Christmas, the advent calendar.
This is a special design edition that showcases the facade of Casa Amatller with little numbered pockets containing tiles of chocolate inside.
You are supposed to open them day by day, from the 1st to the 24th of December.
Certainly a pretty gift to get into the Christmas mood with a touch of iconic architecture and design.

Gothic-style window frames with neat, stepped triangular walls on the roof are striking on the side of Casa Batllo. This is a modernist building that has been "grievances" for a long time. Because Gaudi's light is too dazzling, many people think that this building is very beautiful and distinctive, but in the end it can only be seen in the photo. A little face. The building, which combines Catalan classical Gothic and Flemish styles, was officially opened to the public not long ago, but it is a small group of 12 people led by a tour guide. The length of the tour is divided into 1 hour and a half. Two hours, from 11:00 to 18:00, every half an hour, the English one-hour tour is only available at 11:00 in the morning, and the other half-hour visits also include English explanations. If you have time, feel free to feel it. Modernist architecture outside Gaud. If you can't keep up with the English tour or the time is not enough, you can at least finish the visit to the Battn House. Later, the "small capital" cafe Faborit on the ground floor of this building will have a coffee and a rest. The one is mixed. The Nordic style of the Mediterranean peoples lively atmosphere will make you feel worthwhile.
