Winter in Dali is like a dream.
Winter in Dali is the night sky full of stars and the rippling waves of Erhai Lake. It is the cherry blossoms blooming in clusters on the branches. It is the seagulls flying in the sunlight, leaving mottled shadows on the lake. Here, the wind, flowers, snow, and moon create endless romance.
Cherry Blossom Viewing Guide: Dali's cherry blossoms bloom in two seasons. The first season is the early cherry blossoms from late December to early January, and the second season is the late cherry blossoms in March and April. For those who want to see this beautiful scenery, don't miss this opportunity.
Recommended early cherry blossom viewing spots:
- Haoyun Canteen: For those driving, it is recommended to park nearby and walk in. This spot is located in a small alley deep in a residential area. The alley is narrow, so it may not be convenient for vehicles to pass through.
- About 460 meters south of the intersection of Wenbi Road and Santa Road in Dali City: This spot is right next to the road, making it very convenient for driving and parking.
- Bo'ai Road, South Gate of Dali Ancient City: This is also a good choice, as it is also convenient for driving and parking.

🇨🇳Dali Ancient Town, don’t miss it if u travel to Yunnan!
#ancienttown #100waysoftravel
Dali Ancient Town, nestled in the heart of Yunnan Province, China, is a captivating destination that seamlessly combines rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. As I wandered through its well-preserved streets, the charm and tranquility of this historic town immediately enveloped me, making it clear why Dali has long been a favored retreat for those seeking insight into China's vast cultural tapestry.
Upon entering Dali, the traditional Bai ethnic architecture is striking. The ancient homes and shops, with their distinctive upturned eaves and brightly painted facades, line the cobbled streets, offering a picturesque glimpse into the past. The town is surrounded by an ancient city wall and four grand gate towers that stand as testaments to Dali’s historical significance as a former medieval capital.
The atmosphere in Dali Ancient Town is laid-back and artistic, with a thriving community of artists and musicians contributing to a lively cultural scene. The streets buzz with the sounds of live music and the sights of art galleries and craft shops, where local artisans sell everything from handmade jewelry to intricately carved marble and woodwork. The town is also famous for its tie-dye fabric, a traditional craft that visitors can observe and even participate in at local workshops.
One cannot talk about Dali without mentioning the enchanting Erhai Lake. Just a short bike ride from the town center, this alpine lake offers stunning views and a peaceful escape from the busier streets. The shores of Erhai are dotted with quaint cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy local cuisines such as the catch-of-the-day fish, freshly cooked in Bai style, while overlooking the serene waters.
Nighttime in Dali Ancient Town brings a different kind of magic. The streets light up with lanterns, and the local night market comes alive, offering a feast for the senses. Here, you can savor delicious Yunnanese street food, including the must-try rice noodles and savory grilled cheeses.
Visiting Dali Ancient Town is a delightful experience that offers more than just a glimpse into China's historical landscape. It's a place where the past coexists with the present in vibrant harmony, inviting travelers to slow down and savor every moment. Whether you're exploring its rich history, engaging with the local culture, or simply enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds it, Dali is a destination that truly captivates and enchants.

🌟 Yunnan Wonders: Ancient Cities & Majestic Mountains 🌟
I've explored some incredible spots that you just can't miss! Here's the lowdown on where to go and what to see:
🏰 Dali Ancient City
Stroll back in time in Dali Ancient City, where culture and history dance amidst the stunning backdrop of the Cangshan Mountains. With no entry fee, this 1,200-year-old marvel is a hub of activity. From the traditional Bai homes to the bustling markets and the serene Erhai Lake views, it's a feast for the senses. Wander through by day or soak up the atmosphere at night; either way, you're in for a treat. Don't miss the local beef skewers and the fresh flower cakes – they're a culinary delight!
⛰️ Cangshan Mountain
Ascend Cangshan Mountain and feel like you've stepped into a celestial realm. Despite some logistical hiccups with ticketing, the views are worth every second of the wait. The mountain's swift weather changes add to the adventure, offering breathtaking vistas of the entire region. Remember to pack an oxygen bottle, as the altitude might take your breath away – quite literally! Hike along the Jade Belt pathway and immerse yourself in the lush greenery and the beauty of the eighteen streams.
🌊 Erhai Lake
Erhai Lake is an enchanting choice for a peaceful escape. Whether cycling around at sunset or simply chilling by the water, the lake's beauty is undeniable. Take a boat trip to Nanzhao Folk Island, but make sure to allow enough time to truly appreciate its charm. Stay at a lakeside resort, like the Dali Qingmai Sea View Resort, for an unforgettable sunrise or sunset that paints the sky and the lake in a myriad of colors. Feed the seagulls and let the tranquility of Erhai wash over you.
🎨 Dongfengyun Scenic Area
Dongfengyun is a picturesque spot perfect for those Instagram-worthy shots. While it may seem a tad monotonous after a while, the unique red brick architecture and the vibrant art scene are definite highlights. Rent an electric car to zip around, or if the weather's clear, take a leisurely stroll to soak in the kaleidoscope art installations and the floral splendor. At night, the lit-up art pieces transform the area into a magical landscape.
🏯 The Chongsheng Temple and The Three-Pagoda Culture Tourist Area
The grandeur of the Chongsheng Temple and its iconic Three Pagodas is a sight to behold. Despite a touch of commercialization, the spiritual vibe is palpable. Take the electric car to the top and walk down, visiting the various temples and feeding the fish along the way. The reconstructed temple complex, while new, still holds a sense of awe, and the pagodas stand as a testament to the region's rich Buddhist heritage.
🛶 Shuanglang
Shuanglang is a bustling spot on the Erhai Lake circuit. Brimming with life, it offers a mix of dining, shopping, and leisure activities. Take a boat to Nanzhao Folk Island or simply enjoy the laid-back vibe of the town. For a perfect end to your day, catch the sunset at the Sun Palace or the Nanzhao Folk Island and bask in the beauty of this lakeside gem.

Staying up late to organize | 3 days and 2 nights per capita 700 Dali nanny-level guide
Dali city gives me the feeling of one word "slow", so slow that winter has arrived, and autumn is still here.
Here I have organized a travel guide for 3 days and 2 nights in Dali in winter for friends who want to go to Dali as a reference.
—
📍Transportation:
🚅High-speed train: Get off at Dali Station, then exit the station to the blue sign where you can take the No. 8 bus to the East Gate/North Gate, or take the scenic area direct bus.
✈️Airplane: Dali has an airport, you can fly directly, but the airport is relatively far from the ancient city, but it is closer to Xiaguan, if you have time you can experience the night Xiaguan style.
🚖However, Dali's transportation is not very convenient, and many places cannot be visited by taking the bus. 😢
—
📍Essential scenic spots to check in:
1️⃣Dali Ancient Town: This is the core area of Dali tourism, with a deep historical charm, and it also carries Dali's culture! Although commercialization is unavoidable, it is still a place where foreign tourists check in. 😄
Admission: Free
—
2️⃣Chongsheng Temple Three Pagodas: This is the only national 5A scenic spot in Dali, known as the first temple of Han Buddhism, with great scenery and a high photo output rate. 👍
Admission: 75
—
3️⃣Erhai Lake along the line:
As a symbol of Dali, to be honest, not going to Erhai Lake is really a waste of a trip to Dali. After going to Erhai Lake, I understand why Dali can become a place to soothe the soul. 🌊
Admission: Free/Boat ticket 140
—
4️⃣Shuanglang Ancient Town:
Located on the northeast coast of Erhai Lake in Dali, it is known as the town with the best sea view. The Sun Palace and Moon Palace of the Peacock Queen Yang Liping are here, but I didn't make a reservation. 🏠
Admission: Free
—
5️⃣Xizhou Ancient Town:
This is a quiet and delicate thousand-year-old town. The ancient town is not big, and it only takes about half a day to have fun. The atmosphere is quite strong. 🗓️
Admission: Free
—
6️⃣Nanzhao Fengqing Island:
Surrounded by water on all sides, there are Guanyin statues, Nanzhao Royal Palace, the main square, and Taihu stones on the island! You must take a boat to get on the island. 🚢
Admission: 50
—
7️⃣Cangshan:
This is my personal favorite, with eighteen peaks and eighteen streams, and the mountain top is covered with snow all year round. From here you can overlook the scenery of Dali Erhai Lake. 🏔️
Gantong cableway 80, Cangshan cableway 60 (round trip)
The main scenery is on the Gantong cableway
—
📍Three-day tour route recommendation:
Day1: ◎Dali Ancient Town - ◎Chongsheng Temple Three Pagodas - ◎Three Pagodas Reflection Park - Night tour of Dali Ancient Town
Day2: ◎Erhai Lake - ◎Shuanglang Ancient Town - ◎Xizhou Ancient Town -◎Nanzhao Fengqing Island

Winter clothing guide
The temperature in Dali in winter is about 15 degrees during the day
You can wear a single garment during the day, the thickness of a sweater or coat is just right~ But the temperature difference in the morning and evening is relatively large, if it rains, it will be colder, so you need to prepare one or two thick coats.

The most recommended place to see cherry blossoms in Dali
How many places are there for cherry blossoms in Dali? The most recommended is the Cherry Blossom Road in the residential area👏
1⃣️Dali University cherry blossoms, not fully open to the public, movie tickets or tea house reservation tickets can enter, or go to the residential area to need the homeowner to call the security, relatively troublesome. Recommendation index🌟🌟🌟
2⃣️Boai Road in Dali Ancient City, there are cherry trees on both sides of the road, you can also take simple photos. Recommendation index🌟🌟🌟
3⃣️Dali Landscape Community, the northeast gate of the villa area in the east is open to the public, no access card is set. Now the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and particularly beautiful, there are more people, choose to come at noon or in the morning to avoid the crowd. There are also large areas of cherry blossoms in the community, several cherry blossom roads, cherry blossom bridges, cherry blossom steps, cherry blossom reflections by the water, you need to report the door number to enter, parking is charged. Recommendation index🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four great spots for photographing cherry blossoms in Dali. It’s so beautiful when there are few people!
I only knew Chun Ying before
This year in Dali, I experienced the beauty of winter cherry blossoms for the first time~
Winter cherry blossoms are not as large as spring cherry blossoms
Therefore, it needs to be matched with surrounding buildings
It is easier to produce a film, and it has a "little spring day" and sunny feeling.
Recommended around the ancient city! (No need to go to Wuliang Mountain)
The four of us are small, the scenery is beautiful, and it’s a perfect place for filming.
It’s all personal experience~
PS: The cherry blossoms in these four places are currently in full bloom. Many flowers are sparse around the ancient city, but these few are particularly full! The production rate is very high!
◽️1, cherry blossoms and Bai villages
(Sanwenbi, Navigation Good Luck Canteen)
A friend passed by that day and marveled that this was not the Yunmiao Village of "Xie Zhiyao"! This area has Bai folk houses, villages, villagers... The newly opened shop door next to the cherry blossom tree also echoes the cherry blossoms very well. I used to be an "Internet celebrity" for a few days, but recently there are fewer people. It's so easy to take pictures!
If there are many people, you can try multiple angles. There are three giant cherry blossom trees, and there are many places to take pictures. Photos 2-5
◽️Two, street signs and cherry blossoms
(Yuju Intersection, Navigation Dali Town Convenience Service Center)
When you stumble across an intersection, anyone who sees it can't help but stop. The advantage here is that there are dense cherry blossoms, street signs and clean streets. There are not many cars. When all the elements are combined together, the scene is very rich. Photos 6-8
◽️Three, cherry blossoms and tables and chairs
(Sanwenbi, navigate to Huji Hotpot or Qingtian Western Restaurant)
This large cherry blossom tree has a full shape and can be seen from a distance. It is the most beautiful single cherry blossom around the ancient city. You can also simply consume it and sit under the tree all day. The fence and camping chairs are great for taking photos, and are more suitable for leisure. Photos 11-14
◽️Four, cherry blossoms and overpass
(Navigation Gantong Ropeway parking lot, on the right at the end of the steps)
You can visit Jizhaoan here together. There is a green overpass, but unfortunately it is not open now. This year, a new Hobbit castle was built next to it🏰, which makes taking pictures very fairytale-like. Photos 15-16
I am Ayao who lives in Dali. The homepage also has many detailed guides about Dali, including food, drink and entertainment. Welcome to follow me!

Ginkgo in the ancient city, worthy of the encounter
In the midwinter of Dali, a poetic scroll is slowly unfolding. The ancient city of Jade Er Road bathed in the warm sun, full of golden yellow, as if sprinkled with a layer of gold powder, that is the color of ginkgo leaves, that is the flavor of Dali winter.
Walking on this ancient road, it seems that every step is stepping into history. Those golden ginkgo leaves, like the pages of history, are turned page by page, each with the traces of time, each telling the past of the ancient city.
They sway gently in the wind, shimmering with gold, as if whispering to people, those ancient, modern, romantic, and comfortable stories.
Between the green tiles and white walls, the golden ginkgo leaves and the ancient buildings reflect each other, making the ancient city full of charm.
The sun shines on the leaves, they seem to be singing, the golden light is jumping on the leaf surface, as if it is the last dance of life. And those green tiles and white walls, under the sunlight, appear brighter and more vivid.
People stroll on this golden ancient road, as if they are in a dream world. The golden ground is like a grand oil painting, every detail is full of art and life. Walking in this painting, feel the blend of ancient and modern, feel the harmony of nature and humanities.
In such a season, why not invite three or five friends to come to Dali. Walk on that golden ancient road, feel the atmosphere of the blend of ancient and modern. Let the soul immerse in the picturesque scenery and feel the comfortable time brought by the golden ginkgo leaves.
This is a different kind of enjoyment, this is a different kind of life. In this golden season, let us together find the original romance and poetry.

🌈Longkan Wharf (you can watch the sunrise)
The best place to watch the sunrise, living at the wharf will not be very rushed, you can take photos with seagulls, and there are redwoods to shoot in autumn and winter, very out of the picture
🌈Dali Ancient City (relatively cheap)
There are many homestays in the ancient city, and the price is relatively cheap. Drink a little wine in the ancient city at night, and then go back to the hotel is very convenient
🌈Shuanglang (watch "sea view")
Shuanglang is in the east of the sea, watching the sunset is simply amazing! Surrounded by Erhai Lake, the price is relatively expensive compared to the ancient city, you can stay for one night to experience it!

Dali - Erhai lake and the mountains
Dali city is a county level city that actually encompasses all the settlements surrounding the Erhai Lake. The modern central part is located in the south and is your most probable entry point since the bus and train stations are located there. That part is also probably the one you will be least interested in. Although it's coastal area does have nice views and some fancy hotels most travelers head out to one of the smaller places around the lake, most notably the Dali Old Town. Dali Old town is technically a tourist center and most travelers choose to stay in or around it. The famed three pagodas as well as the starting point for climbing CangShan are all located near the Old Town. The town itself is nice enough and rather big. The fact that it is not pedestrianized and that pavements are very often blocked with stalls and parked cars does make it a bit hectic, especially in the high season, so staying on the fringes of it is probably a better option. To be honest, most of the things we wanted to see and do In Dali had nothing to do with the Old Town itself. It is a good place to eat and drink though, although 'tourist surcharge' will most certainly apply.
If you have not arrived by car, renting an e-bike for exploring short distances is actually a good idea. The three of us got on one e-bike and squeezed it out of all of its juice while exploring around. So much so, that we actually had to recharge on the way because the declared 70km range probably did not refer to a 160kg+ weight-load. Great way to discover surrounding villages that offer a bit more authenticity and bit less crowds that the Dali Old town. Most of the town pictures you see above(5-6-7) are actually from XiZhou (喜洲古镇) a smaller village further north really worth a visit. Quite a lot of people also like renting one of the pink convertibles and I suppose it is a good way to reach farther as well as take that ever so important Instagram photos.
I would come here again. The place does offer some real peace and quiet as well a serene landscape, even though it is often hidden by noise of the crowds and commerce.
