Surfing village
#timetotravel
There is a small surfing town with beautiful beaches and lots of small boutique hotels and coffee shop in Dapeng. It really feels like being in some exciting island somewhere outside of China. But in reality it’s a few hours dive east of Shenzhen.
We have been here several times over the years and also stayed at one of the cute hotels just at the beach. You can play with your SUP here or simply rent one. During the summer months the temperature by the beach is actually quite warm.
The little town is full of streets and alleys and each time we come we find something new. The area is also nicely decorated with wall murals all over the place.

Idyllic beach cove on Dapeng peninsula
This hidden cove is located in a small villa area in the Western side of the dapeng peninsula. We stayed in a villa for a night. It was huge and had everything you could possibly need for a group of people to have a grand time. There was a karaoke room, a games room, a conference room with a huge TV and a balcony. We had an amazing BBQ with steak, hot dogs, seafood, vegetables and more.
In the morning we went to the beach cove in the pictures and went swimming. It was a perfect place to relax away from any crowds. We basically had the beach to ourselves.
I would definitely come here again given the chance, this beach is far better than the one near the old dapeng fortress town.

Not too far from the sprawling metropolis of Shenzhen, a beautiful little seaside town with great sights, some history and more. Worth the effort to get to Dapeng to see Dapeng Fortress and the Mermaid's cave.

Laowai on the Loose
Qiniangshan Park, on Dapeng Peninsula in Shenzhen, is a great day trip from anywhere in the Pearl River Delta. The climb to the top is a good challenge and the view from the top is brilliant. The park is huge and there are many trails to choose from. Right now there are many wildflowers over the mountain.
Dapeng has many other attractions such as beaches and an ancient fortress, so it makes a good weekend getaway.

Two-Day One-Night Dapeng Bay Bus Travel Nanny-Level Guide
✅Bus Routes
🚌Day One
❶【Yantian Port West—Rose Coast】Route M199.
Duration 1 hour 03 minutes, cost 4 yuan. I got off at Vanke Seventeen Miles, the roadside scenery is quite nice. Affected by Typhoon "Dusu Rui", the Rose Coast scenic area was closed that day.
❷【Rose Coast—Kuiyong Center—Shi Hetang—Dapeng Fortress】M362 to 833 to M471. It took 1 hour 42 minutes, cost 8 yuan. It wasn't this route originally, because I missed my stop.
🚌Day Two
❸【Dapeng Fortress—Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Shenzhen Genetics Institute—Heshubu Village—Astronomical Observatory】Route M457 to M232.
Duration 2 hours 25 minutes, cost 5 yuan. There is a sightseeing bus from Heshubu Village to the Observatory for 10 yuan/trip. Taking a taxi costs about 18 yuan, which is quite hard to hail; walking is about four kilometers. Affected by Typhoon "Dusu Rui", the observatory scenic area was closed. My trip was in vain.
❹【Heshubu Village—Nanao Hospital—Jiediaosha—Yangmeikeng】
Route M323 to Nanao Hospital then M274. It took 1 hour 18 minutes, cost 6 yuan.
❺【Yangmeikeng—Nanao Center 2 (same station walk)—Nanao Center 1—Liuyibu 2—Longgang Line Return Trip】
Route M274 to E11, cost 17 yuan.
The whole journey used the Shenzhen Tong app, with discounts for both buses and subways.
✅About Dapeng Fortress
"Dapeng Fortress, officially known as 'Dapeng Garrison Thousand Households Fortress', is located in Pengcheng Community, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. It was a military fortress for coastal defense in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Shenzhen is also known as 'Pengcheng', which originates from this." The next update will provide detailed content about Dapeng Fortress.
✅About Yangmeikeng
Yangmeikeng recommends two attractions, nothing else is interesting.
❶Filming location of the movie 'The Mermaid': Take a speedboat there. One-way 30 yuan/person; round-trip 50 yuan/person.
❷Seaside plank road sightseeing: Sightseeing car 13.8 yuan/person.
❸Parking: 30 minutes free, 15 yuan for one hour. Afterwards, it increases by 5 yuan per hour, with a maximum daily charge of 50 yuan.
Unfortunately, this trip was affected by Typhoon 'Dusu Rui', and all attractions were closed. My trip was indescribable.
✅Beach Impressions
🏖️【Jiaochangwei Beach】Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️
❶The beach is small and narrow, with small waves and nothing much to see.
❷The swimming area is very small, nothing else is open, jet ski operations are available.
❸Jet ski round trip 100 yuan/trip, you can drive yourself or go with others.
❹Speedboat to Yangmeikeng 68 yuan/trip; sea sightseeing 30 yuan/trip one way.
❺Beach shops offer shower and storage services for a fee of 5-25 yuan.
❻The beach is near Dapeng Fortress, an 11-minute walk away.
🏖️【Jiediaosha Beach】Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️ (2.5 stars)
❶Known as Shenzhen's glass sea, my heart broke into glass, the scenery is average, the waves are small, and although the sand is fine, there really isn't much to see.
❷Parking is very expensive at 30 yuan/hour, it is recommended to park at Yangmeikeng.
❸Beach shower costs 3 yuan/time, scan to pay.
✅About Food, Drinks, and Accommodation
❶Eat: Mainly at Dapeng Fortress. Fried rice for lunch and dinner 25 yuan/portion; breakfast soy milk and fried dough sticks 6 yuan/portion. Lunch at Yangmeikeng Seven-Eleven convenience store udon noodles + fish balls 18.5 yuan/portion.
❷Drink: Traveling alone, only drinking mineral water, mineral water at various attractions is basically 5-6 yuan.
❸Stay: Dapeng Fortress Homestay: Wenjia Homestay 170 yuan/night, the environment is okay. The next update will have a detailed introduction to Dapeng Fortress.

The filming location of the movie 'The Mermaid', Lujiao Mountain Villa, is absolutely stunning
📍Detailed address: Yangmeikeng
It's said to be the most beautiful beach in Shenzhen—the filming location of 'The Mermaid', Lujiao Mountain Villa.
The beach is beautiful with rich layers of greenery, perfect for taking photos!
Because a sailing trip was arranged along the way,
The whole trip was very satisfying with the sea breeze blowing!
And taking photos on the boat made me feel so capable!
It instantly cured my haha
The long coastal beaches along the way,
The seaside cliffs are the first I've seen in China! It's like facing the stone tablet of Jieshi to view the vast sea~
The marine sports base also has diving, surfing, paddleboarding, sailing, and more to explore next time!
🎫Ticket: Free
📍Detailed address: Yangmeikeng, Nan'ao Sub-district Office, Dapeng New District
🚉Transportation strategy: Drive to Yangmeikeng, there is a parking lot for 30 yuan/day, there is traffic control on weekends and public holidays, and you need to make a reservation for driving, the reservation method: 'Shenzhen Traffic Police'—'Reservation Passage'—'Dapeng Peninsula'—choose the time slot, if you miss the reservation time, you can enter by delaying the time slot
👍Most recommended: Green travel, take the bus from Shenzhen city center to Dapeng Center Station and transfer to M274 to Yangmeikeng Station, then walk to Yangmeikeng Village~
🏨Accommodation: We stayed at the Langqi Zhanyun Resort, which is directly accessible to the beach from the hotel, and there are many homestays around the way~all not far
🗓Itinerary: After arriving at Yangmeikeng Beach, we chose a yacht to enter Lujiao Mountain Villa, because the Mermaid filming spot is inside Lujiao Mountain Villa, you can only enter by reporting with the car booked for the villa accommodation, if you haven't booked the villa accommodation, you can take a speedboat back and forth for 50 yuan/person, and you can also drive to the Mermaid Cave~ Riding the wind and waves is super fun
🌟Highlight features: After returning to the hotel, we booked a sailing trip to chase the sunset, which was a bit expensive at 400 yuan/person
But when we got on the boat, it felt totally worth it, super cool! Sailing out to sea for photos is absolutely stunning!
The captain was also very nice, always cooperating with our photo needs to adjust the direction, thumbs up, I will come again next time
🍽Dining:
U1s1 The dining in the scenic area is indescribable, not recommended, we just ate casually at the hotel, and waited to eat something delicious on the way back~
📝Note tips:
Remember to apply sunscreen and rest well, haha have fun~

Top 5 Shenzhen Self-Drive Beach Collection! Beautiful and free (with strategy)
1⃣️ Dapeng Bay Beach
📍Address: Jinsanda Avenue, Dapeng Peninsula
🚌Bus: B983 route, Dapeng Bay Beach station
🌟Features: The most distinctive feature is the several hundred-year-old trees on the beach that provide 99% shade. There is a designated swimming area, perfect for laying out a picnic mat. The water is crystal clear, and it is one of the four major coral protection bases in Shenzhen, making it ideal for snorkeling and sea foraging. The surrounding facilities are quite good. If you prefer less crowded, niche spots, then avoid the packed Golden Bay Beach and come here instead.
2⃣️ Yogan Bay Beach
📍Address: Fumin Road, Dapeng Peninsula
🚗Self-drive: Yogan Bay Beach
🌟Features: As a constructive beach in Shenzhen, Yogan Bay Beach is a beach I love to bring friends to check in. As long as the weather is good, the 'glass sea' is definitely real. It's great for snorkeling and sea foraging, and there are also some water sports available for enjoyment on the beach.
3⃣️ Sapphire Beach
📍Address: Qixiaxia Road, Dapeng Peninsula
🚌Bus: E11 route from the city, Nanao Seafood Market station
🌟Features: The most conveniently accessible beach from the city. Although small, the beach has everything you need! The water is crystal clear, suitable for snorkeling, sea foraging, and there is also a designated swimming area for children. The surrounding development is quite comprehensive, with all of Shenzhen's popular homestays gathered behind the beach, offering too many choices. Moreover, the sunset here is incredibly beautiful!
4⃣️ Jiediao Sha Beach
📍Address: Xindong Road, Dapeng Peninsula
🚌Bus: M274 route, Jiediao Sha station
🌟Features: If you must find a beach in Shenzhen with clear water and fine sand, Jiediao Sha is the one. The beach is crescent-shaped, nearly 1 kilometer long, with a designated swimming area. If you also like snorkeling and sea foraging, you will love the Qieshi Li Wild Beach, which is only 100 meters away from the beach.
5⃣️ Guanhu Beach
📍Address: Guanhu Community Guanhu Road, Dapeng Peninsula
🚌Bus: B956 route, Guanhu Terminal
🌟Features: This is one of the beaches on the Dapeng Peninsula that is open all year round for self-driving without reservation. The transportation is convenient, the nearly one-kilometer-long beach is very clean, and the sea is super blue and beautiful. The colorful fishing village is also great for photography, making it a treasure beach on the Dapeng Peninsula that is perfect for walking with children.
Shenzhen has a 260-kilometer-long coastline, with more than 50 beaches. Its unique geographical environment has led Shenzhen to be ranked second among the top ten best travel cities in the world by the travel magazine 'Lonely Planet' in 2019, and it is also listed as one of the top ten best travel cities in the world by the World Travel & Tourism Council. There are really too many mountains and seas in Shenzhen worth checking out. This note shares my favorite five free beaches in Shenzhen that I have loved visiting in recent years, and I believe you will like them too. ❤️

Shenzhen | This unnamed sea, only we know about it
Driving 3 hours from Foshan
to the winding coastline of Dapeng Peninsula
between Juediao Sand and Yangmeikeng
there is an unnamed sea, only we know about it
·
Unexpectedly, in such a bustling and prosperous city as Shenzhen
there lies a quiet, elegant, and wabi-sabi style guesthouse
(1h drive from downtown Shenzhen)
·
The coastline in April is not too lively
which is just to my liking
A small escape from the mundane, a suitable place for a wild stay
The standalone guesthouse is nestled between mountains and sea
where I dream of falling asleep to the sound of the waves
Waking up to face the sea
and the unexpectedly delightful evenings often written about in books
Staring out the window, I could stay there all day
·
The room amenities are very complete
-Marshall speakers
-Capsule coffee machine
-LE LABO bath products
-Dyson hair dryer
Smart home and thoughtful butler service
Though it's a guesthouse, the facilities and the experience of staying are not inferior to a star-rated hotel
·
It instantly heals the weariness of the journey
Even if not staying, you can have a cup of coffee in the restaurant on the first floor
and feel the slow pace of Shenzhen☕️🌿

Hiking along the Hongpaijiao loop, experience the most primitive coastline of Shenzhen
After the ordeal of traversing Dongxi Chong, I finally set foot on the crossing route of Hongpaijiao at low tide.
Hongpaijiao is located at the easternmost end of the Dapeng Peninsula. It is named for the large area of red rocks nearby. The rugged coastline, crabs and snails on the tidal flats at low tide add interest to the journey. The weather was not good in the morning, the sea water was a bit muddy, and the drizzling rain could not deter the enthusiasm of fishing enthusiasts, standing alone in the wind with only the fishing rod in their eyes.
The most difficult part of the journey is not the coastal hike, but the choice to climb the mountains near the lighthouse to cross to the beach on the other side and the last part of the journey, which is also a mountain climb to the tunnel section. Both of these mountain climbs are on wild trails, difficult to navigate, hot and mosquito-ridden. It is recommended to wear long sleeves and pants.
Little TIPS:
1. Bring enough supplies, especially water. I brought 4 bottles of 570ML water + 1 bottle of 550ML functional drink, which was almost enough. For food, choose something easy to carry, clear and filling, like bread and jerky;
2. Make sure to apply sunscreen, the importance of sunscreen in the summer by the sea goes without saying;
3. Wear shoes suitable for sports, as it's all reef coastline, and it's easy to sprain an ankle if you're not careful. Along the way, a teammate was injured due to improper footwear and had to call for emergency rescue. Thanks to these lovely rescuers!!
4. Pay attention to the tide. If you don't have much outdoor experience, go at low tide. There is a section that is usually submerged by the sea and can only be crossed at low tide, otherwise, it's a 90-degree freehand rock climb, which is dangerous!
5. The beautiful beaches are not maintained, and many areas have accumulated a lot of garbage. Don't add to the burden on nature, take your own trash with you!
The towering rocks, the peculiar caves, and the sea and sky blend into one at Hongpaijiao, which will not disappoint you. Get ready and set off!

I declare that the island is the ultimate destination for graduation trips
🗓️ There is no better place to travel in the summer of July and August than the islands 🌊
I recommend 10 top choices for graduation trips ☞ Lesser-known islands ✔️
Hurry up and call your friends to set off for the summer islands 💨
-
📍 Zhejiang Taizhou - Da Chen Island
A lesser-known island in Zhejiang, those who have been to Dongji Island will love this one even more. You can overlook the entire island from the highest point at the Reclamation Monument 🪦, and the sunrise paired with the beautiful artistic lighthouse is very healing.
·
📍 Fujian Fuzhou - Pingtan Island
The scenic area is well-developed with many attractions. There is the stunning 🌬️ Windmill Sea, and with some luck, you might see the blue tears. It's very suitable to rent a car or a small electric scooter to go around the island.
·
📍 Guangdong Shenzhen - Dapeng Peninsula
Rated by 'National Geographic Magazine' as 'One of the Eight Most Beautiful Coastlines in China'. The whole peninsula has more than a dozen attractions, enough to have fun all at once. The cleanest and most beautiful glass sea beach on the island has a visibility of 10m, allowing you to clearly see the reefs and schools of fish under the 🌊 sea.
🏠 Accommodation recommendation: Stay at Honey Joy·Shenzhen Blue and White Holy Island Cliff Pool Homestay, occupying a prime sea view of Nan'ao, and immerse yourself in the charm of the island.
·
📍 Fujian Fuding - Yu Mountain Island
Half grassland, half sea, also known as the 'Sea Pasture'. The highest point on the island has three natural lakes, like heavenly pools, surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of high mountain meadows, just like 🌿 New Zealand pastures.
·
📍 Fujian Putian - Meizhou Island
Compared to Pingtan Island, it's less commercialized here. It is also the filming location for the TV series 'Mazu'. There is a 🌈 rainbow road that leads straight to the sea, where you can rent a small electric scooter with friends and go around the island~
·
📍 Weihai Rongcheng - Donggou Island
The sea reef stones 🪨 are stacked into wall bricks, with roofs made of sea grass and wheat straw, as if you've arrived at a sprite's house from an anime. At the end of the road is the blue sea and sky, and you must experience the slow life of the island at least once ✔️
·
📍 Fujian Ningde - Si Meng Archipelago
It includes 17 archipelagos, and July and August are the peak of green grass. There are rare cliffs, as well as the sea, meadows, pebble beaches... known as the real-life 'Zelda'!
·
📍 Fujian Fuding - Taishan Island
Large meadows are dotted with grazing 🐂 cows and sheep, there are stone houses built on the cliffs, and many strangely shaped reefs. After climbing up the Umbrella Reef, there's a fort, and every casual snapshot is a frame from a movie 🎬!
·
📍 Shenshan Cooperation Zone - Lu Yue Island
Covering 80,000 square meters, shaped like an island, although not strictly an island, it has mountains and water, and is a rural vacation complex integrating homestays, camping, leisure vacations, and aesthetic art.
·
📍 Wenzhou Pingyang - Nanji Island
Not yet fully developed, usually with limited access. It has the only 🏖️ shell beach in China — Dashao Beach. The stunning sunrise at Sanpanwei that 'only the destined can see' 🌅, and the lush green grassland in July and August are just right, with a Xinjiang grassland feel~

After falling in love with hiking, I began to explore this wonderful world
I initially lived in Hangzhou, and I would go hiking around the area on weekends. After my job moved to Shanghai, the time spent traveling to hike increased from 1 hour to 3 hours. Gradually, I became more accepting of the distance, from the initial tens of kilometers to later hundreds of kilometers.
I've walked through many mountains in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, and my desire for the outside world has grown stronger. In 2023, I started planning my special forces journey, from the initial 12-hour hard sleeper train to Enshi for hiking, to a 4-hour flight to Hong Kong for hiking. The world has not disappointed me; every route has been full of surprises.
Yes, this time I flew from Shanghai to Shenzhen to experience the most beautiful coastline (as described by National Geographic) Dongxi Yong hiking route. Since I drove there myself, I only walked the Xichong Astronomical Observatory section. The entire route is along the coastline, a very interesting path, and the sea here is very blue. If you have the chance to go to Shenzhen, you must experience it!

Shenzhen| There's already a hint of autumn in the wind
|There's already a hint of autumn in the wind.
In the early morning of Shenzhen, a breeze blows, bringing fresh fragrance and a hint of coolness.
Time passes in the four seasons, and once it goes, it never returns.
The seaside in autumn, devoid of humidity and heat, is also a good season to avoid the crowd.
At this time, you can go to the sea, camp, blow the wind, climb mountains,
All the beauty of the seaside can be found here in Dapeng Peninsula.

Visit the Shenzhen National Geological Park Museum
The Shenzhen Dapeng Peninsula National Geological Park Museum is located at the foot of Qiniang Mountain surrounded by the sea on three sides. There are few tourists on weekdays and not many on holidays. Not only can you see all kinds of minerals, gems, fossils of ancient creatures, but also visit the underwater world, dinosaur groups, and models of volcanic eruptions. If you have enough energy, you can even climb the challenging Qiniang Mountain, the second highest peak in Shenzhen. The one-way journey takes more than 4 hours, but it is definitely 'worth the price'. The price of admiring the magnificent mountain and sea scenery is very tiring, and it takes a week to recover.

No wonder it's a holiday paradise for Shenzhen people, it's so comfortable here!!!
Recommended scenic spots in Shenzhen Dapeng Peninsula National Geological Park: Shenzhen Astronomical Observatory

It takes about half an hour to walk from the entrance at the foot of the mountain to the observatory. You can take a speedboat to Xichong No. 4 Beach from the seaside plank road. The speedboat costs 50 per person. Remember to bring water and food for climbing.
Xichong No. 4 Beach
Located near the observatory in Nanao Street, Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. The beach ticket is 30. The seawater is clear and blue, and the beach is soft and delicate.
The waves are rolling in, making it the best place for sea catching and surfing. It is known as the "Eastern Hawaii".
Yangmeikeng
Located in Dongshan Community, Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. It is the filming location of the movie "Mermaid".
There is a miraculous mermaid cave and a jelly-like blue sea. In the distance, cruise ships are slowly moving, and the nearby waves are surging.
It's also very healing to just sit quietly and stare at the sea. From Yangmeikeng, you can take a speedboat to Luzui Villa for 30 per person. The sightseeing car up the mountain at Luzui Villa costs 5 per person.
Recommended warrior-level gameplay: East-West Chong Crossing
A very classic hiking route that offers a panoramic view of the entire island. Hiking, crossing, and exploring on the rugged coastline are very suitable for backpackers who love hiking.
Food and accommodation suggestions:
The taste of several seafood restaurants is similar, but group meals will save a lot. If it's not enough, you can order separately. Recommended restaurant at Xichong Beach: Pengji Seafood Restaurant. Recommended restaurant at Yangmeikeng: Changshun Seafood Restaurant.
It is recommended to stay in Xinwu Village
Very close to Xichong Beach and the observatory.
The accommodation prices vary, it is recommended to book a few days in advance.
Traffic suggestions:
July and August are the peak season, and the traffic on the island is very congested. It is recommended to avoid the crowd peak on weekends and evenings. You can charter a car or take a taxi on the island.
