A Cozy Loft Cafe on Dihua Street

Located next to Dadaocheng Park in the Dihua business district, this small but well-equipped cafe offers a unique experience. The first floor is the ordering area where you can check the menu and place your order before heading upstairs. The owner will bring your food to you. The second floor can accommodate about five groups of customers, and there's a small mezzanine level above that can hold two more groups. To access the mezzanine, you need to change into slippers. Since I had already eaten before visiting, I just ordered a hot Americano and took a seat. To my surprise, the coffee came with a traditional snack—mung bean cake. Daedojeongmadu: A Great Sunset Spot for a Walk

🧊 Just a short walk from Dihua Street, you'll find Daedojeongmadu! 🧊 It's perfect for cycling and walking along the riverside path! 🧊 The lush trees are stunning, and the view from Daedojeongmadu is even more beautiful...🫶 🧊 Around sunset, small food trucks line up like at the Hangang Goblin Night Market. When it's a bit cooler, it's a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere:) 🧊 If you visit Dihua Street, make sure to go to Daedojeongmadu to catch the sunset!

The Fusion of Old and New in Dihua Street?

It's been six years since I last visited Dihua Street. You can reach it from Beimen MRT Station. Taipei has been working hard to revitalize old buildings, including Huashan and Songshan Cultural and Creative Parks, but these are mostly led by large corporations. The transformation of Dihua Street is more about government assistance providing the groundwork. The old and new shops coexist harmoniously, preserving the original architectural features. The old shops also cooperate well with the renovations, while new shops bring in vitality. In the hot weather, strolling under the arcades feels comfortable. There are many unique coffee shops, boutique stores, and souvenir shops that can keep you occupied for more than half a day.

Starting off with the often-missed historical landmark of Bei Men (North Gate), the moment you step out of Taoyuan Metro from the Airport! Great base to start off the trip, head either direction from the gate to get to Ximending Commercial Area or Dihua Old Street where they are famous for dried provisions. Wind down the evening at 台vlt, the best Natural Wine Bar in Taipei that originates from Singapore. Expect gourmet nibbles and snacks with Singaporean flair to pair with natural wines from artisan producers all over the world, all at a very reasonable price! Begin the next day with a visit to Shen Keng Old Street and sample the famous stinky tofu and Taiwanese Sausage stuffed with Bamboo Shoots! Head over to Taipei 101 for a shopping spree before heading back to Bei Men (North Gate) for the best Pork Knuckle Rice at Zheng Ji Pork Knuckle. Spend the evening at either Ning Xia or Nan Ji Chang Night Market or for the adventurous, head out to San He Night Market for a night of night market hopping! Third and last day morning, walk around Dihua Old Street and chance upon traditional breakfast joints and food shops to savour authentic Taiwanese breakfast staples like vermicelli soup and salted congee. Dihua Street 迪华街 - a slice of old school taipei

#taiwan #dihua Visited somewhere other than the usual tourist spots. This street 迪华 (Dihua street) had an old world charm about it - crammed full with stores selling everything from chinese herbs to fresh vegetables. The eclectic cafes peppered around the area would also appeal to the younger crowd. Of notable mention - the fresh, handmade strawberry mochi (near the start of the street) and the uncle selling affordable 车轮饼 chock full with smooth yam. For those looking for gifts to bring back home for friends and family - get the figure 8 shaped egg rolls at June1st 六月初一. Found it way better than some of the other overhyped egg roll brands.

Dihua Street Commercial District

Dihua Street was initially established in the 1850s. Since the end of the 19th century, it has been an important distribution center in Taipei for goods from the north and south, tea, Chinese medicinal materials, and fabrics. It is the most complete and meaningful old street in Taipei, with buildings filled with characteristics of Southern Fujian, Western-style, modernist, and Baroque architecture. Since 1996, the well-preserved Dihua Street has not only become the oldest street in Taipei but also expands into a grand Taipei New Year Goods Street every year on the eve of the Lunar New Year, becoming a major gathering place for shopping and purchasing New Year goods during the Lunar New Year period. Dihua Street is a street full of local flavors, with a dazzling array of traditional goods and a cluster of ancient and quaint buildings, like a colorful ancient scroll. As you wander through Dihua Street, you can see century-old shops everywhere. #2024wish It’s a very nice area for a lazy stroll. The buildings have kept their old style and some of the shops feel authentic too, all of that mixed with fancy design shops and food stalls that sell snacks. It can get very crowded at the start of the street but keep walking straight and you'll find some gems at the end. In 2024, I want to visit Taipei, Taiwan again !

Dihua old street in Taipei

First time going to this old street. There’s a lot of old beautiful buildings. A good place to take photos and go cafe hopping. They sell lots of dried goods, local shops etc… Of course there are good food around too. Spent almost a whole day there. Locals said 2 or 3 days before Chinese New Year, it is really busy and packed.
