Fascinating Fortune Dragon in Yong Peng
The Fortune Dragon, also known as Naga Kemakmuran in Malay and 转运祥龍 in Chinese, is an awe-inspiring dragon statue located within the Che Ann Khor Yong Peng Association building area. It officially debuted on November 12, 2016, graced by Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ismail and Crown Prince Tunku Ismail.
The Fortune Dragon stretches an impressive 115 meters (approximately 351 feet), making it the longest dragon tunnel in the world. The dragon tunnel is made of glass fiber reinforced concrete. It boasts 144 steps inside, with a height ranging from 3.6 to 4.8 meters. The overall length is 107 meters, with a 37-meter gap between the head and tail. The dragon has three undulations and three twists, adorned with 36 sharp teeth. Its exterior features 3,330 ceramic scales imported from Quanzhou, China. Inside, 42 Chinese paintings embellish the steps and platforms.
Dragons hold great significance in Chinese culture, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. To enter the tunnel, visitors step into the dragon’s mouth—a fitting beginning for a mythical journey. The tunnel comprises 108 steps, leading explorers through the dragon’s belly to the exit. Inside the tunnel, over 30 traditional Chinese paintings adorn the walls. These paintings depict Chinese folktales, Buddha’s teachings, and glimpses of the afterlife. Plan to spend around 30 minutes exploring this unique attraction.
