Autumn in Hokkaido.
Autumn is the best time to see the fall foliage in Hokkaido. Here are some recommended places and activities for viewing the fall foliage:
1. Sapporo: As the capital of Hokkaido, Sapporo has many good places to see the fall foliage in autumn. You can enjoy the golden ginkgo trees at Hokkaido University, or take a cable car to Mount Moiwa to enjoy the fall foliage of Sapporo and the surrounding mountains from a high place.
2. Jozankei: This is a popular place near Sapporo for viewing the fall foliage, famous for its hot springs and autumn leaves. You can take a walk along the stream and enjoy the colorful autumn leaves.
3. Lake Toya: Lake Toya in autumn is breathtakingly beautiful. You can take a boat on the lake to enjoy the view of the maple leaves reflected in the lake, or relax in the hot springs by the lake.
4. Noboribetsu Jigokudani: In addition to the famous hot springs, the maple trees here turn red in autumn, forming a beautiful picture with the steam from the hot springs.
5. Daisetsuzan National Park: Sounkyo Gorge is the gateway to Daisetsuzan National Park. The fall foliage season here starts in September, making it one of the earliest places to see the fall foliage in Japan.
6. Lake Shikotsu: As the second deepest lake in Japan, Lake Shikotsu is very beautiful in autumn, with the reflection of the red leaves on the lake. You can take a boat or take a walk by the lake to enjoy the fall foliage.
7. Hakodate: Hakodate Park and Goryokaku Park are both good places to see the fall foliage, and they are easily accessible. Especially Goryokaku Park, when viewed from a high place, the star-shaped park is particularly beautiful against the red leaves.
8. Biei: The patchwork hills of Biei are covered with red leaves in autumn, presenting picturesque rural scenery.
9. Shiretoko: The fall foliage season in Shiretoko Peninsula starts in September. You can enjoy the earliest fall foliage here and experience the mysterious atmosphere of the primeval forest.
10. Onuma Quasi-National Park: The autumn scenery here is picturesque. You can take a boat on the lake to enjoy the view of the red leaves reflected in the lake.
When planning your trip, please note the weather changes in Hokkaido in autumn. The temperature difference between day and night may be large, so it is recommended to dress in layers and keep an eye on the weather forecast. In addition, some attractions may require advance booking or have specific best viewing times, so it is recommended to plan ahead and check the latest travel information.

Sapporo is beautiful in all seasons! But my favorite is Sapporo in winter, a romantic and beautiful city of the northern country!
WanderlustAbroad_5
🌳It's my first time to play in Sapporo, and it's unreal how beautiful it is!
🌳 The first time I visited Sapporo, the beauty was unreal! Firstly, step into the Northern Wonderland and visit Hokkaido University in winter, the campus is as beautiful as a snowy fairy tale under the snow. ❄🎓 ❄ Experience Hokkaido Hall's Old Main Building in winter, where the historical buildings look even more rustic and elegant under the snow cover. The architectural landscape in the midst of snowflakes makes you feel as if you have travelled back in time, experiencing the serenity and magic of winter in the North. 🏰❄ 🏔 Climbing to the top of Mt. Moriwa, overlooking the entire Sapporo city centre, the snow-capped summit blends perfectly with the modernity of the city, allowing you to experience the romance and magnificence of Hokkaido's winter. ☃🗻 🍁 Switching seasons and stepping into autumn at Fushimi Inari Shrine, with its red leaves and shrine atmosphere bathed in the warmth of autumn, it is as if you have entered a serene and mysterious autumn wonderland. 🍂⛩ Sapporo's picturesque scenery makes every place a mesmerising picture, making your first trip to Sapporo full of surprises and touches! 🌍✨

Hokkaido's location in Japan is just like Japan's location in the world. In Hokkaido, people have the most complete horizon in their sights. The day of humanity begins here, and it opens from day to day.

The beauty of Hokkaido is different in spring, summer, autumn, and winter. It looks like a girl with a lot of charm and beauty, but Hokkaido in winter shows a silvery white world, which is known as the 'Snow Country'. It is the most beautiful season in Japan.

People say that Hokkaido goes four times in its lifetime, one each in spring, summer, autumn and winter. Scenery in spring, vacation in summer, flower viewing in autumn, skiing in winter. At any time and in any season, you don't need much preparation to go to Hokkaido. You can simply set off and be different in Hokkaido in the four seasons. At this moment, set out to meet the winter in Hokkaido

Hokkaido, a city ranked first in Asia's warm and romantic rankings.
This is how I feel about Hokkaido. I have seen those travel introductions and said that it is worth going four times in a lifetime.
Spring cherry blossoms, summer flowers, autumn maple, winter snow
But I'm Hokkaido most fond of winter.
Close your eyes and feel the powder snow falling on your body, no matter how cold it is, it doesn't matter, the heart has rushed to the city involuntarily.
The journey is on New Year's Day at the beginning of the year. If you want to experience this kind of snow-covered picture, it is generally recommended to go after December.

Hot spring hotels in Hokkaido, Japan are a little bit expensive, especially the so-called net red hotel, 3000.4000 can not be walked away, and it must be booked in advance. So this treasure-level hot spring hotel within 1,000 yuan, I
It was recommended by 5 stars. I went there twice in two consecutive years.
This hotel is very few people, in addition to locals, but also more Hong Kong people and Taiwanese. The price of around 1,000 is for breakfast and dinner for two people, which is very, very affordable.
The entire hotel is in a separate area, behind the hotel is a snow-capped forest, and in front of it is a quiet branch lake, so you can basically see the blue lake as soon as you open the window. Fully Japanese-style decoration, wear
You can take a lot of beautiful photos while wearing a yukata.
Soaking hot springs, the most important thing is definitely hot springs. Pure natural hot spring water, a century-old shop, has received many Japanese leaders, watched the introduction of the hotel, and the king of Sweden came to visit the last generation.
Then, the locals also come to soak daily, but you can imagine that the water quality is very good.
The hot spring is divided into 1. The indoor high temperature and low temperature area can also be seen outside the scenery pool is larger
2. The outdoor hot spring area can overlook the snowy poolside, and there is a small sauna next to the lake.
3. (Specially recommended) The outdoor hot spring connected to the lake is completely empty. No one takes photos.

Come to Sapporo, you can go to Hokkaido University. Especially in the winter, retro European architecture with snow scenes is really the perfect fairy tale campus. On the campus, there are buildings in the early days of the Meiji period, including green spaces, creeks, woods, and farms. There is also a bust of Dr. Clarke, which symbolizes Peking University, a Furukawa lecture hall with more than 100 years of history, a comprehensive museum that collects extinct animal bone specimens thousands of years ago, a ginkgo avenue in which more than 70 tall ginkgo trees are arranged, and the first used in the Sapporo Agricultural School. The second farm ruins, etc., show visitors a rich Hokkaido character.

I prefer Sapporo in autumn to Kyoto, which is always crowded with tourists.
I've been wanting to visit Sapporo for a long time. I've seen so many breathtaking views in different movies and music videos. But I didn't expect my first encounter with Sapporo to be in autumn, when the mountains are covered in red leaves, instead of winter, when snowflakes are falling.
·
Unlike Kyoto, Sapporo's autumn is about the mountains and fields. There aren't many temples or shrines, and the red leaves are all blooming in the mountains and canyons, which is somewhat similar to western Sichuan. But compared to western Sichuan, where the roads are jammed with cars and people during the red leaf season, Sapporo is a much better experience.
·
📆Time
Due to the long and narrow shape of the Japanese archipelago, the red leaf season usually starts at the end of September, with the northernmost Hokkaido turning red first. As the cold air moves south, the maple trees in the Kanto and Kinki regions gradually turn red. I went to Sapporo in mid-October, when the ginkgo trees at Hokkaido University in the city were not yet yellow, but the red leaves in the surrounding mountains were almost at their peak, so the timing was just right.
·
📸Photography
✅Sapporo City: I personally think the red leaves in Sapporo City are quite ordinary. The only place worth seeing is the Maple Avenue in Odori Park. Hokkaido University is more famous for its ginkgo trees, but for people from Chengdu, ginkgo trees are not that rare.
✅Jozankei: The best place to see red leaves around Sapporo. You can enjoy the autumn scenery of nature while soaking in the hot springs. Don't miss Futami Park. The Futami Suspension Bridge here often appears on the cover of Japanese maple magazines. From the vermilion Futami Suspension Bridge, you can see the fallen leaves floating in the Kappa Abyss.
✅Sounkyo: Part of Daisetsuzan National Park, it is famous for its spectacular canyons and abundant hot springs. I personally think this place is more like western Sichuan, except there are no snow-capped mountains. The Ryusei Waterfall and Ginga Waterfall in Sounkyo are the most photogenic places. Especially when the sun shines, the red leaves around the waterfall and the splashing water create a beautiful scene that is unforgettable.
✅Sankaitaki: You will pass by here on the way from Jozankei to Noboribetsu. It is a roadside parking spot. It is located on the upper reaches of the Sankaitaki River, where a 15-meter waterfall is formed. The waterfall is particularly photogenic when paired with the colorful mountains.
✅Kimobetsu: Although this place is not known for its red leaves, but for its local specialties, the red leaves around the town and Mount Yotei, known as "Ezo Fuji," are beautiful even when taken casually from the car.

Beautiful Autumn Leaves at Hokkaido University
Today, I happened to pass by Hokkaido University and was amazed by the beautiful autumn leaves here. The afternoon sunlight illuminates the leaves, making the red leaves glow brilliantly. I saw many couples and families taking photos to capture the moment, creating a very warm atmosphere. For those planning to visit, remember that the sunset in Hokkaido is around 4:30 PM, so it's recommended to visit around 1 PM for the best experience.

A nanny-level guide to Hokkaido! Hayao Miyazaki's world.
I know that winter in Hokkaido is beautiful
I didn’t expect the season to be full of flowers
It's like stepping into Hayao Miyazaki's world!
If you want to see the beautiful natural scenery
Highly recommended to come to Hokkaido! Remember this article!
🌈7 days and 6 nights in Hokkaido
This time we chose Sapporo, Otaru and Furano and Biei in the northeast from September 1st to September 7th. We definitely want to see the sea of flowers in the summer. We didn’t want to be in a hurry, so we didn’t consider the Hakodate area in the southwest. In the end, it seemed Very wise!
🔸Day 1: Depart from Beijing - New Chitose Airport - Sapporo, go shopping at Tanukikoji Commercial Street in the afternoon
🔸Day 2: Sapporo to Minami Otaru, Music Box Museum (Picture 7) - HELLO KITTY Cafe (Picture 3) - Kitaichi Whistle - SNOOPY Dessert Shop (Picture 8) - Otaru Canal - Funamizaka - Otaru Return to Sapporo - No departure Famous conveyor belt sushi Nemuro Hanamaru on the 6th floor of Station Stella Place
🔸Day 3: Shiroi Koibito Chocolate Factory (Picture 45) - Hokkaido University (Picture 6) - Odori Park (Picture 2)
🔸Day 4: Sapporo Factory Outdoor Collection Store-Stellar Place Shopping
🔸Day 5: Sapporo-Furano (less than 3 hours by bus)-town tour (Picture 10)-Sorachi River (Picture 11)-Asahigaoka Park (Picture 12)
🔸Day 6: JR Furano to Nakafurano - Mount Hokusei (10 minutes walk) - Tomita Farm Lavender Sea of Flowers (15 minutes, Figure 13) - Nakafurano to Biei - Rent a bicycle near the station and ride the "Patchwork Road" (2 hours, pictures 14-17) - Return to Furano
🔸Day 7: Return to Sapporo from Furano (JR transfer via Takigawa) - Eat at New Chitose Airport - Return home
💡Tips for avoiding pitfalls and visiting:
🔸 This time I stayed at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Sapporo Nishi in Sapporo and I felt very good:
Distance advantage: Less than 10 minutes’ walk from Sapporo Station, 25 minutes’ walk from Tanukikoji, Hokkaido University, and Sapporo Factory Store. Opposite the hotel is the famous dessert shop Rokkatei.
Breakfast advantages: The hotel includes breakfast, the meals are excellent, you can drink Hokkaido milk every day, and there are sashimi and fish roe in the morning
Service advantages: The hotel provides children's supplies (slippers, toothbrushes, towels, toys), and the hotel has free baths
🔸 The Ichika Hotel where I stayed in Furano has better room facilities than Sapporo, and the bathrooms are POLA. Breakfast is included, but it is a little far from the station (30 minutes' walk)
🔸 If you want to go to Furano Biei, it is strongly recommended to stay in Furano instead of taking a one-day bus trip from Sapporo. The beauty of Hokkaido's countryside can only be felt by staying, hiking, biking, and experiencing it in depth.
🔸 Souvenirs such as Shiroi Koibito, Rokkatei, and Agricultural College can be bought at the airport at once, and tax refunds are available
🔸 There are many outdoor stores in Sapporo. If you want to shop, there are no shopping malls in Sapporo, Furano and Biei.

[Retro Walk's thoughts🕰️] "Retro Walk" started with the desire to make people feel that "old" is "beautiful" and stop to look at it.
Japan has many wonderful historic buildings, but they are difficult to maintain and are often demolished.
This is true not only for buildings, but also for traditional Japanese objects and techniques.
I hope that this will encourage as many people as possible to reexamine the things of the past before they disappear from Japan.
If you find a place that catches your eye, please take a retro stroll and take a break!

How beautiful is autumn? Come to Hokkaido University to see a colorful drama!
🖼In the deep autumn, Hokkaido is the earliest city to welcome the arrival of the autumn season. In mid-October, you can see autumn leaves all over the streets of Sapporo. There are many places to see autumn leaves in Sapporo. Don't miss the Ginkgo Avenue of Hokkaido University, every corner of the campus is beautiful.
❤Hokkaido University is a scenic spot for tourists. Enter from the main entrance, you can get a map of the school at the entrance, and then walk west along the central line. The whole journey is only a few hundred meters, but there are more than 70 ginkgo trees planted on both sides of the road, with an age of about 70 years. They interweave with each other to create a dreamy Ginkgo Avenue. Every autumn, it is one of the most beautiful autumn sceneries in Sapporo.
👍On both sides of the Ginkgo Avenue, maple trees are planted on each branch road, most of which are pentagonal maples. They change color earlier than ginkgo, and they put on red faces early. Choose one at random and walk in, you can see the red and yellow campus scenery. Not far away, there will be elderly people in the garden explaining the four seasons of Hokkaido University to tourists, and they will also show their collected 'spoils' from various periods.
✅Before the winter, the rain will become abundant. After the precipitation, the leaves will start to fall, and the sidewalks will be covered with leaves of various colors, like a colorful carpet. Passers-by use their cameras to record beautiful moments.
🧳Recommended route for visiting Hokkaido University: Enter the main gate→Central Green→Elm Forest (Science College Green)→Hokkaido University Museum→Poplar Avenue→Ono Pond→Ginkgo Forest Avenue→Sapporo Agricultural College Second Farm. The whole journey is listening and walking, enjoying the scenery and taking pictures, it will also take half a day.
📍School address: North 8 West 5, Kita-ku, Sapporo.
🕙Opening hours: Open 24 hours a day, it is recommended for general tourists to be best from 6 am to 9 pm.
💰Ticket information: Free entry.
🚉Transportation information: Exit from the north exit of Sapporo Station Square, and walk north for about 8 minutes to arrive.

The famous Japanese National University
Hokudai 北大 is considered to be the nation's finest institutions of higher education or research. It is one of the top universities and was ranked 5th in THE Japan University Rankings. Little surprise that it is considered a “tourist-visiting sites” too by TA and some traveling journals. The ginkyo leaves here in fall are beautiful. Such a wide space to walk around.
In 2024, I want to go back to Sapporo.

Sapporo Hokkaido University, shuttling between the woods and farms
We spent an entire afternoon exploring the vast campus of Hokkaido University, like conducting a field study in nature, admiring historical buildings and agricultural facilities. The photos I took casually can hardly show its beauty, I hope to have the opportunity to become a student here!

Hokkaido University Campus - Uncontainable Autumn Scenery
Hokkaido University campus is hailed as one of the most beautiful university campuses in Japan, just a 5-minute walk from the north exit of JR Sapporo Station. Although the early winter season is not the most beautiful season, there are still green lawns, yellow ginkgo trees, and red maple trees dotted among the colorful buildings. Walking in the Hokkaido University campus is like stepping into a beautiful botanical garden.
