This shrine was recommended to us by the tourist information advisor. We are so appreciative of her tips. We were wide eyed with wonder the moment we arrived there, our attention captured by the 10 meters tall giant float decorated with interesting traditional figures and scenes. At least one hour is needed to explore the grounds and examine the many fascinating items of interest which includes a well surrounded by three cranes - there is a legend that water of this well grants longevity and eternal youth.

The modern Fukuoka is the largest city in Kyushu developed on the shoreline-dependent port, but earlier on, the banks of the Hakata Canal were the center of the region.
It is not surprising that the oldest upper-end commercial street in Hakata, centered on the Kushida Shrine, is surrounded by historical museums gathered around it.
Kutada Shrine is the Hato-General Guardian Temple built in the last Heian period in ancient Japan. Later, Toyotomi Hideyoshi revival Hakata was once again carried forward.
Fukuoka citizens who believe in Shintoism regard the Kushida Shrine as an important shrine.
Putian will welcome the most popular Hakata Gion Festival in Kyushu in July each year. Many tourists will come here to visit one of the most exciting scenes of the festival: Following the mountains. In each of the 7 different genres, 26 men and women dressed in cloaks and robes are armed with mysterious legends and ancient samurai figures, pavilions and flowers, and the gorgeous mountains are surrounded by crowds. In unison, he shouted the number and went into the Putian Shrine for a week, then went on the street to start a competition for speed and strength.
This huge mountain is displayed in the Putian Shrine, and you can enjoy the exquisite structure without catching up with the festival.

The serene and beautiful Kizuhiko Shrine!
Devotees of Shintoism consider it an important shrine for worship. The historic Kizuhiko Shrine is the main venue for the grand Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival held every July in Kyushu. During this time, many visitors come to witness the most exciting event of the festival, the 'chasing Yamakasa,' where 26 people carry the decorated Yamakasa floats and dash through the streets, creating a lively and spectacular scene. You can admire the colorful Yamakasa that are usually only displayed during the Gion festival within the shrine, as well as the ancient ginkgo tree symbolizing Kizuhiko Shrine, which has a history of a thousand years.

Kushida Shrine
#fukuokatrip Very accessible shrine to visit in Fukuoka. Not as crowded as other famous shrines in Tokyo and you could still walk around and have your own space. Very well decorated but doesn’t seem like a tourist destination. I guess Fukuoka is just a more quiet and peaceful city.Kushida Shrine, a Shinto shrine, created from year AD 757, has its beauty and greatness with simplicity and tranquility in design.
The Shrine has Zodiac Ehoban or Zodiac Sign hung on the ceiling of the entrance gate.
Its Kazari Yamakasa, 山笠, is on permanent display at the courtyard all year round [except June], which is full of traditional Japanese artist techniques, skills, and colors. A Yamakasa for Japanese folk religious practice is a portable shrine to carry a deity during a festival. Then, there are two types: the Kazari yamakasa (decorated floats) and Kaki yamakasa (carried floats for worships and riutals).
The Shrine is free for entrance, and it is popular with tourists and visitors who are in Hakata area for shopping in Gion section.

Kushida Shrine
We visited Kushida shrine, one of the oldest shrines in Hakata during a religious event. Families with young children were attending the religious event and a lot of locals and visitors were paying their respects. We washed our hands in the purification fountain, and we “tried” our future with the “omikuji” the little fortune white papers in many languages, for a few yen. After we read them we folded them in the near by tree.
I want to travel more in 2024.

Hakata's Sacred Tapestry Unveiled: Journey
#2024wish
In the heart of Hakata Ward, Fukuoka, lies the enchanting Kushida-jinja Shrine. A sacred haven where the vibrancy of Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival culminates, adorned with ornate floats displayed throughout the year, except June. Affectionately known as "O-Kushida-san" by locals, it stands as Hakata's guardian, venerating deities such as Daibosatsu-no-Mikoto (Kushida-gu), Amaterasu Omikami (Omiya-gu), and Susanoo-no-Mikoto (Gion-gu). Steeped in ancient history, it's the oldest patron deity in Hakata, with roots tracing back to the 8th century. Amidst the sacred air, my unforgettable trip immersed me in the rich tapestry of traditions. In 2024, I wish to go there again.
