🙏 Phra Mae Ya Shrine, an important sacred site in Sukhothai, is revered by the people both in Sukhothai province and the general public. Those who are troubled often come to pray and seek help from Phra Mae Ya, and it is said that their wishes are often granted.
🙏 Phra Mae Ya is a stone deity carved from slate, depicting a young woman adorned with ancient noble attire. She stands straight with both arms close to her body, wearing a flowing skirt in the Sukhothai style.
💗 Her face is oval-shaped with a rounded chin, a slight smile on her lips, and she wears a tall crown and pointed shoes.
🙏 The stone deity, including the pedestal, is a single piece of stone, measuring 51 inches from the feet to the top of the crown and 49 inches tall. The stone is carved from a single block with no joints.
🙏 It is believed that Phra Mae Ya might be Queen Siang, the mother of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great and the grandmother of King Li Thai.
