Lucerne is a city Switzerland famous for itspreserved medieval architecture, sits amid snowcapped mountains on Lake Lucerne. Its colorful Altstadt (Old Town) is bordered on the north by 870m. Museggmauer (Musegg Wall), a 14-century rampart. The covered Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge), built in 1333, links the Aldstadt to the Reuss River's right bank.
We flew in to Zurich and stayed here 2 nights during our Switzerland trip. The city is compact and easy to walk around. There are many interesting things to see in this city . The Lion Monument, Old Town, Chapel Bridge, and Glacier Garden are all within walking distance of one another

Looking at the snow-capped mountains by Lake Lucerne, gazing at the famous Chapel Bridge
Lucerne, also known as 'Luzern', is the capital of the canton of Lucerne, located in central Switzerland, at the confluence of the Reuss River and Lake Lucerne. It belongs to the German-speaking part of Switzerland, and its German name is Luzern. In multilingual Switzerland, it is called Lucerna in Italian and Romansh, and Lucerne in French and English.
Known as the most beautiful and ideal tourist city in Switzerland, it is also the most beloved Swiss holiday destination for the Swiss people. Lucerne is a historic and cultural city where artists have found endless inspiration. Historically, many famous writers have lived and written here. Upon entering the old town of Lucerne, the first sight is the Chapel Bridge, the oldest wooden bridge in Europe and a landmark of Lucerne. The covered bridge contains about 129 paintings from the seventeenth century depicting the history of Lucerne.

Lucerne is amongst the most picturesque of places I have been to. I mean there is no shortage of those in Europe or even switzerland which has a spectacular catalogue of destinations. I love the sense of antique and quiet charm that this city offers. Medieval bridges crisscross a glassy greenish-blue lake with jutting alpine peaks everywhere you turn, squares with fountains and the list goes on.
I spent four days during my trip last year. As always my mode of transport was on foot. Which seems to perfectly suit this sleepy town. The fresh air and the pleasant riverside ambience of river Reuss highlighted the mood. As with many towns in Switzerland, this too is a place more of those who love the outdoors, nature and appreciate historical landmarks. Lucerne’s scenery and historical preservation alone make it worth visiting.
In terms of transport in and out of the city. Lucerne is centrally located, just a quick 52 kilometers from Zurich and roughly 100 kilometer from Bern. Quick cos this is Europe! If you arrive by train, which is our preferred method, it’s only a 50-minute ride from Zurich and a little over an hour from Bern. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding and more in the winter, hiking, cycling, paragliding and water sports during the summer months make for some of the best reasons that brings tourists here. #myhiddengems #100waysoftravel #switzerland #swissmountains #solotrip #europe #summertravel #singapore
