4. Wat Ratchanatdaram: The 37 glittering golden spires are particularly eye-catching.

Asia's Most Dangerous Market
Have you ever seen a train pass through a market? Don't worry, it's not an accident. This is a daily scene at the Maeklong Railway Market in western Bangkok. The train passes through a gap less than 2 meters wide, which might seem terrifying, but it's actually very safe. The surrounding area is filled with various stalls, and the thrill of the train passing by is incredibly exciting.
Highly recommended to take notes
✍️ Every time the train sounds its horn, the vendors on both sides can pack up their stalls in about 10 seconds, allowing the train to pass through the tracks. They then resume their business, all within 5 minutes. It's truly amazing!
✍️ There are 8 trains passing through the market daily, making each occurrence like a flash performance repeated every day.
✍️ You can find local snacks, fruits, and unique clothing in the market, but they are quite expensive (more expensive than night markets). Be sure to compare prices and don't buy impulsively.
✍️ The market is located in Samut Songkhram, 80 kilometers from Bangkok. The transportation is not very convenient, so I recommend hiring a car from Bangkok (recommended: 38 Traveler). It costs less than 800 THB per person for a 10-hour car hire.
Maeklong Railway Market Schedule 👉 06:20, 08:30, 09:00, 11:10, 11:30, 14:10, 15:30, 17:40 (Plan your time accordingly before you go~)
I suggest combining this trip with a visit to the floating market for a one-day tour. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

maeklong railway market bangkok thailand
Maeklong Railway Market is a traditional Thai food market. The vendors cling to both sides of the railway tracks. When they hear the whine of the train, they will calmly get out of the way and immediately return to their original position after the train passes.
After it was reported by Discovery at the time, it became a very popular tourist attraction in Thailand for tourists visiting Bangkok. Although it is a bit far away from downtown Bangkok, it is still worth taking the time to visit.
I usually make a package together with the floating market, but this time I bought a package from Trip.Com
Maeklong Station has only 4 buses a day and 8 round-trip trains passing by. The local traditional market is located directly on a short section of railway track extending from the station. It is considered a morning and afternoon market. If you come in the evening, you can’t go shopping and experience the train shuttle. Fun at the market
Because the Railway Market is considered a morning and afternoon market, it’s hard to see much in the evening, and there are very few trains. Therefore, the two periods when tourists are most concentrated are:
Check in at 11:10 and check out at 11:30
Check in at 14:30 and check out at 15:30
During these two times, the waiting time is the shortest, and you can see the arrival and departure of the station at once.

maklong railway station 2 hours from bangkok
took a shared coach transport package with klook (sgd$90+ after $10 discount for 2 pax) and departed from siam paragon/bts around 11am. upon arrival around 1pm we had lunch at an aircon eatery recommended by our tour guide, end of the market. staff were friendly, food was ok though not cheap. queue inside for toilet was long thus we proceeded to the market.
tried this special 80baht red seeded fruit (cousin of soursop) which has a unique taste. after train arrived around 3+, we walked till the end of the station where the the train was parked till 4plus. we could board the train for photos and witnessed staff cleaning the train and washing the train toilets.
went to the jetty and saw motorbikes boarding this ferry beside the temple. there was also this tranquil cafe beside the river.

[Thailand🇹🇭] A train passes over the tracks! Maeklong Railway Market
Maeklong Railway Market near Maeklong Railway Station 🚃
The highlight of this market is seeing the shops closing down when the train passes over the tracks!! !
Usually, goods are lined up on the tracks for sale, but when the train passes, the goods are removed from the tracks🤣
The train runs right next to the shops, so it was thrilling and fun!
Once the train passes, the tents are spread out again, the goods are put back in, and the market reopens without incident👀

A market on railway track
You may have seen a video on Facebook about a train getting through a local market in Thailand.
It was a wonderful trip to Maeklong Railway Market, the market is called ‘life-risking’ market because its stalls are attached to the railway, vendors at the market put out parasols or canvas to protect themselves against the sun, the shelters stick into the railway where visitors walk and do their shopping(there are selling food, fruits, meats, vegetables & souvenirs, crowded usually when tourism opens), when each signal of the arriving train rings, chaos happens....vendors will rush to close their parasols and canvas, along with clearing all goods that will obstruct the coming train at a great speed, once the train passes, parasols and canvas will be reopened as goods are again put into their usual place next to the rail track.

From the beautiful railway market that always has to open the train, I went to the Amphawa Floating Market, which is only available on weekends. I experienced the two major food markets around Bangkok and admire the speed of the small vendors on the railway side. And the shelf side is also worried about the tourists stepping on their goods. The highlights of the Amphawa Floating Market are not only fireflies, seafood and other food and beverage outlets are very good, the prices of these two markets are not expensive, 10 pigs of coconut, 20 pig noodle soup, is definitely a conscience price ~

🕐8:00-19:00
Maeklong Market is a unique market in Samut Songkhram Province, Thailand, also known as the "Train Market". This market is spread over the railway tracks, and every time a train passes, the vendors all pull down their products at once, and when the train passes, they put them back up and resume business, creating a very unique sight.
Maeklong Market is famous for its wide selection of local ingredients, including fresh vegetables, fruits, seafood, meat, and spices. It is also popular with tourists, and many people visit when the train passes by.
One of the fun things to do when visiting is to check the train times in advance and capture the moment on camera.

Bangkok Maeklong Railway Market | A "dangerous" wet market with a train passing through it! .
| A "dangerous" wet market with a train passing through it! . 🔥The Maeklong Railway Market, which was popularized by the movie "Embarrassed in Thailand", has now been successfully won by the Chinese. Watching this train coming from a distance, surrounded by people, at a high speed, the whistle sounds from time to time. , making it look a little cute! The market stalls are placed along the railway track, and there are many cheap fruits and vegetables. The train comes regularly every day, and the vendors will close their stalls in advance according to the whistle to let the train pass. This interesting landscape can only be seen in Thailand. ! I think what is hidden under this spectacle is the Thai people’s persistence in tradition and their ingenuity in not following the routine...
🔸Address: Mueang Samut Songkhram District, Samut Songkhram
🔹Admission: Free, no tickets
🔸Train: Generally, everyone will wait for this train that arrives at the market around 14:30 every day, which is relatively punctual.
🔹Transportation: It is first recommended to charter a car (you can play with Amphawa Floating Market); or take a bus from Bangkok city to Maeklong for about 1.5 hours to 2 hours; it is also possible to follow the train directly, which takes about 2 hours (Choose Mae Klong Station)
📝The Maeklong Railway Market is known as the most dangerous wet market in Thailand. It has gradually become well-known to Chinese people because it often appears in movies and TV shows (such as the popular "Traveling in Thailand"). The place is actually not big, it is mainly a "street" connected by a railway and small stalls on both sides, and the train station on the other side. The wet markets are these small stalls on both sides of the railway. They are about four to five hundred meters away along the railway. They mainly sell grains, oils, vegetables, fruits, and seafood and cooked food. The items are relatively cheap.
㊙️【Tips for shopping and eating】
1⃣️The fruits such as mangosteens and dried mangoes and other specialties here are relatively more cost-effective
2⃣️The weather nearby is very hot and sunny, so it is recommended to take sun protection measures (the awnings of the vendors are of course good shade places)
3⃣️You can bargain in a friendly manner when buying things
📸Of course, the best thing about the railway market is that six or seven trains pass by here every day. The vendors will quickly move their stalls back to prevent being run over by the train, and the customers buying food will disappear in an instant - that The scene is really amazing! The whistle sounded in the distance, and the tourists in front started to cheer. In order to make way for the train, the vendors pulled up their awnings. The train moved very slowly to prevent hitting people! In this way, the train moved forward slowly amid crowds of people, with one or two whistles coming from time to time. People below were taking pictures of the train, and tourists on the train were also using their mobile phones and action cameras to record the scene in front of them. Create a spectacle!
❗Tip: Vendors are friendly and will proactively remind passengers which places are not safe, and will ask passengers to avoid the train near their stalls. If you are on the scene, be sure to listen to their well-intentioned reminders.
As soon as the train left, the vendors skillfully set up their stalls and continued business as usual, as if nothing really happened, haha!
🔝【Photo Easter Egg】
Later, the train will stop at Maekong Station for a period of time. You can take photos during this time!
That’s right, you can even go into the train carriage and have a look~

📍Rom Hup Market
In Bangkok, we went to the railway market in addition to the floating market.
It was perfect because we only stayed between the time the train arrived and the time it departed 🙆🏻♀️
The tour cost only 5,300 yen 💮
We were surprised at how cheap it was for a tour that departed in the morning and returned in the evening, almost a full day tour.
There were quite a few companies in the same price range.
We chose this tour because it was convenient to depart from Siam Paragon, but on the way back we ended up at ICONSIAM, so be careful about that 😂

Near Mae Klong Station in Samut Songkhram Province, there is a railway market packed with vegetable and fruit shops along the side of the active railway tracks.
Also known as Talat Lom Hub, or Umbrella Folding Market (ตลาดร่มหุบ). As the name suggests, vendors along the side of the tracks fold up their tents and umbrellas to avoid the trains when trains travel between Mae Klong and Bang Laem (8 times a day), and then unfold their tents and umbrellas again when the trains pass by and resume business!

[Bangkok] A market on the railway tracks!? Maeklong Market
A train passes 10 centimeters in front of you!?
A market that seems unbelievable but is unique to Bangkok
Maeklong Market ตลาดร่มหุบ
Stalls are lined up right next to the tracks, and when the train passes, they fold up their tents and tourists move to the very edge of the train.
When the train passes by, there are many people sticking their hands out of the windows, and they high-five, wave, and take pictures as they pass each other.
You can also interact with locals and other tourists, which is heartwarming♡
★Access
About 2 hours by car from Bangkok
I recommend using Grab or chartering.
It's also a good idea to go on a tour that includes the nearby floating market!
There seems to be a way to get there by train, but
I think it's for advanced people...
①Take the train from Wongwian Yai Station to Mahachai Station. Cross the river by boat and transfer to the Maeklong line.
② Take the [BKK-Amphawa-Damnoen Saduak] bus from the Southern Bus Terminal and get off at Maeklong, then walk for a short distance.
★Prices
You can get cheap and cute Thai goods at the same price as a night market in Thailand♪
Reference
Thai pants 100 baht
Scarf 100 baht
Coconut husk plate 100 baht
You can also get a better deal by buying in bulk!
★Notes
There are only 8 trains a day!
We recommend going to the market according to the train times!
Maeklong Departure Maeklong Arrival
6:20 8:30
9:00 11:10
11:30 14:30
15:30 17:30
※As of October 2024. Check the latest information before going.
★Tricks, maybe?
If you buy souvenirs in bulk just before the train arrives, the store may let you stand in a prime spot where you can see the train! I was allowed to stand on a slightly elevated platform in the store, like a stepladder. It depends on the store, so try it with 30% of your expectations 😂
★You can also enjoy it like this
The train that arrives at Maeklong Market stops at the station for a while
You can get on and off the train freely at that time,
so you can enjoy watching the train!
*There are also general customers on board, so please try to watch quietly in a small group for a short time

A must-visit attraction in Thailand: the dangerous train tracks!

The place I'm introducing this time is a dangerous train track that you must visit at least once in Thailand
There are shops lined up along the train tracks, and when a train passes by, they put away their items for a moment and wave at the passing train

One of the must-see tourist attractions in Thailand, it has a unique characteristic because it is located on the railway. This market is located in Samut Songkhram Province, about 70 kilometers from Bangkok.
Characteristics of the Umbrella Market: Umbrella Market is located on the Maeklong Railway Line, where trains pass through the middle of the market several times a day. Vendors must quickly pack up their goods and fold their umbrellas when the train arrives. Once the train has passed, they will unfold their umbrellas and rearrange their shops.
Umbrella Market has a variety of products, from fresh vegetables, fruits, seafood, meat, to everyday items.
The experience of seeing the lifestyle and skill of the vendors who work quickly to pack up their goods when the train passes is an impressive and unique experience.
Trains usually pass through the market about 4 times a day, and the exact times may change. It is recommended to check the schedule before traveling to get the best experience.

Maeklong Market, where trains pass right next to the market
This is a market where the State Railway of Thailand train passes right next to it.
This is another tourist spot that you can't miss when visiting Thailand. You can get there by train or bus. The train times are fixed, so it's best to check before you go. If you go late, you won't be able to see anything. If you go late in the evening, the shops close early, so there's nothing to do. It's very hot, so you need to wear a hat to avoid heatstroke. Don't forget to stay hydrated.
If you go in the morning, you can see the sights in about half a day, so I highly recommend visiting it.

When coming to Bangkok, Thailand, be sure to visit the Meigong Railway Market, which has a history of over 100 years! It is also one of the biggest characteristics of Thailand, and not coming will be regrettable. The Meigong A Railway Market sells everything, including fruits and vegetables, snacks, bags, hats and clothes, seafood, small gifts... The prices are much cheaper than those in the water market, and can be negotiated.
Whenever a train passes by, the shop owner will retract the sunshade above and wait for the train to pass before opening
The train is traveling very, very slowly, so it is very safe, enough for you to check in and take photos.

[Very impressive! 🚃The train passes right by the market]
This time, we will introduce Maeklong Market, where you can see a famous sight in Bangkok! !
It is famous that the shops lined up on both sides of the tracks fold up their tents and umbrellas to avoid the train every time a train passes, and then open their tents and umbrellas again and resume business after the train passes!
It was really impressive as it really passes right next to the shops 🙋♀️
🕐Market opening hours: 6:00-16:00
🚃Number of trains passing: 8 times
You can only see the train passing 8 times a day!
Also, the market closes at night and the impact decreases, so I recommend starting early in the morning and going to see it early 💨
It's really close, so be careful ⚠️
There are staff and the train moves slowly, but there are so many people that it felt dangerous...!
Personally, I think it's safer and more interesting to look at it from a distance like the previous photo 🙌

🔺 Mae klong train market in Bangkok is amazing 🤩
♥️ I just had the most incredible experience visiting the Maeklong Train Market in Bangkok, and I can't wait to share it with you! 🌟 It was truly a unique and extraordinary adventure that left me in awe 😍
💫 Imagine strolling through a bustling market, with vendors showcasing their colorful array of fresh produce, mouthwatering street food, and vibrant handicrafts.
🚧 But here's what sets the Maeklong Train Market apart: the train literally passes through the middle of it! 🚂🌽🍉 It's like something out of a dream. As soon as you hear the distant horn, the shopkeepers swiftly retract their awnings and make way for the train to pass by. It's an incredible sight to behold, and you can't help but marvel at the precision and coordination involved.
💢💢 look at the photos how close the train pass from people and goodies. The merchant lady doesn’t even bother while drinking her juice 💢💢
❗️I highly recommend that anyone visiting Bangkok sets aside a day to experience this marvel. Trust me, it's an opportunity you don't want to miss! 📸✨ The whole experience feels surreal and absolutely amazing. It's one of those rare moments that will stay with you forever‼️
🎁 To make the most of your visit, I suggest joining a day tour. They typically start with a visit to the train market, allowing you plenty of time to appreciate this unique phenomenon and explore the market at your own pace. You'll have the chance to savor some delicious local cuisine during lunchtime as well.
⛵️Afterward, the tour takes you to a nearby location where you can hop on a boat and embark on a scenic ride through a floating market. It's a picturesque journey that immerses you in the vibrant culture of Thailand's waterways. Finally, the tour concludes at the big Damnoen floating market, where you can indulge in even more shopping and culinary delights. 🛍️
🎀 Believe me when I say that this day trip will leave you with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of Thai culture. 🌺🛶

🚂Maiklong Railway Market is a very unique market. Trains shuttle on the tracks in the market. When the train is about to arrive, police officers and vendors will come out to help direct. There is a red line on the ground and all personnel must stand on it. It is safe only behind the red line, and the market vendors will immediately retract the goods they sell into the safe area. In an instant, the track will be cleared very clean. As soon as the train passes, the vendors will immediately push the goods out, restoring the lively scene. Come and see different wonders!
Most of the products sold in the market are vegetables🥬🫑, fruits🥭, and seafood🐟. Due to the large number of tourists, there are now many souvenir and souvenir shops, and there are also many restaurants on both sides of the railway track where you can wait for the train to arrive. Shop!
Generally speaking, when traveling with a group, you take a ride to the market and watch the train coming into the station. It is also very interesting to experience the wonderful scenery looking down on the train!

Another attraction along the way is Amphawa Floating Market. You can reach Amphawa by taking the two buses in front of the 7-11 near Maeklong Railway Station. Remember to ask the driver if you are going to Amphawa (10 baht per person per trip). Amphawa Floating Market is only open on May and Saturday, not on weekdays!
If you are traveling on your own for a day trip, you have to leave Amphawa and return to Maeklong. You need to take two buses and return to the original drop-off point before 5 o'clock (because there is no minibus back to Maeklong).
Then take the minibus from Maeklong Bus Station back to Bangkok Mo Chit Station! You can then transfer to MRT or BTS and return to the hotel!
(Chartered cars are not limited to this)

[Thailand] The Umbrella Folding Market, commonly known as Maeklong Market
#sightseeing
A market on the tracks 🥬🥕
It's called the Umbrella Folding Market because just before the train passes, the vegetables and other items for sale on the tracks and the tent umbrellas (5th photo) are all folded and put away at the same time.
*It feels like some of the vegetables are being stepped on under the train?!😱
You can take photos of the scene from the very edge of the train,
so it's very impressive!
It's about an hour and a half by car from Bangkok 🚗
If you don't have a car, I recommend a tour!
If you go by yourself, there is a shared minibus (about 100THB 400 yen) from the bus terminal with Mor Chit, but it is far from the Sukhumvit and Silom areas to get to Mor Chit, so it is not recommended for beginners to Bangkok.
In addition, the time when the train passes over the tracks, which is the main part of Maeklong Market, is fixed, so I think a tour is more efficient!
There are also many tours that are combined with the floating market,
so I recommend that if you want to get around efficiently.
Because it's a market, you can enjoy local ingredients, food, and stylish cafes!
It's a sight you'll never see in Japan, so be sure to check it out when you travel to Thailand! 🚃

Mae Klong Train Station in Bangkok offers a unique and thrilling experience for visitors. Known as the "umbrella pulldown market," it's famous for its bustling market stalls that line the railway tracks. Witnessing the vendors swiftly retract their goods as the train approaches is an exhilarating sight, showcasing the ingenuity and adaptability of the local sellers. Visitors can explore the market's vibrant atmosphere, sample local delicacies, and shop for fresh produce and souvenirs. Beyond the market, the station itself provides a glimpse into Thailand's railway history. Mae Klong Train Station is a must-visit destination for those seeking an authentic and unforgettable Bangkok experience.

First time in Thailand
I went on my first solo trip abroad to Thailand, where a friend of mine lives.
Because it's in Asia, it was easier than I imagined, and I went at a time when there was no temperature difference, so I didn't get sick and it was very comfortable.
I was also grateful that prices were low. I didn't plan my itinerary too closely, but it was easy because you can pretty much get by with a certain amount of money (taxis and motorbike taxis are cheap, and food isn't expensive, so don't worry).
The photo was taken at the famous Maeklong Railway Market. On the day I returned to Japan, I took a quick tour with a Japanese guide, but it worked out lol

Bangkok | Close Encounter with the Train | Maeklong Railway Market.
Experience the train passing by right in front of your face!
It's right here at the Maeklong Railway Market.
The market here is very characteristic of local Thailand.
Not only traditional snacks, bags, fruits, vegetables...
It's a proper traditional market~
The things for sale, like scarves, are really suitable to buy as souvenirs!
Internet celebrity Coconut Sister is also here~ Buy a freshly chopped coconut to drink while strolling around~
There is a coffee shop in the middle to the back section.
You can sit here and wait for the train to pass by~
When the time comes, the boss will call everyone to sit outside in a row.
Then you can witness the vendors quickly packing up for the train to pass and then swiftly setting up again.
The train really passes right in front of your face, you can even shake hands with the passengers on the train haha.
It is said that Hong Kong also has its own Maeklong Railway Market.
It's over at Spring Garden Lane~ And you can take photos with the Ding Ding tram!
I really want to go!!
