Time Travel in Talat Noi, Bangkok - A Fusion of Tradition and Art.
Walking into the historic Samphanthawong district of Bangkok feels like stepping into a time tunnel, entering a world where history and creativity intertwine. This street, one of the first in Bangkok to feature Western-style architecture, has witnessed a century of prosperity and decline. However, with the new generation taking over and transforming it, Samphanthawong Road has been revitalized. Today, it not only boasts traditional local delicacies but has also become a hub for hipster cafes and street art, attracting countless tourists and influencers.
As you step into the alley of Talat Noi, the aroma of charcoal-grilled toast wafts through the air. A humble tricycle vendor at the entrance quietly grills thick slices of toast, the slightly charred edges on the charcoal fire exuding a delightful milky fragrance. This unassuming yet popular stall offers a slice of happiness for just 10 baht, making people willing to queue up and savor this traditional Bangkok street flavor.
Venturing deeper into the alleys, the scenery becomes more artistic, as if entering a creative art exhibition. The Painted Alley is the liveliest spot in Talat Noi, with walls adorned with colorful graffiti and murals blending Chinese, Thai, and local cultural elements. New works are frequently added, offering different surprises with each visit. These unique street arts, set against the weathered walls, invite visitors to take photos, making it a popular check-in spot.
While leisurely strolling the streets, you will also encounter many traditional temples, such as the Han Wang Temple and the Ching Shui Zu Shi Temple, exuding a rich Chinese cultural atmosphere. Walking along the riverbank, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Chao Phraya River, especially at dusk when the sunset paints the river golden, creating an unforgettable scene.
Further along the river, you will find the ancient Holy Rosary Church. Though not as grand as European churches, its yellow Gothic architecture, stained glass, and elegant appearance leave a lasting impression. The church stands out in this exotic neighborhood of Bangkok, making it a perfect spot for hipsters to take photos.
Finally, you reach the River City Shopping Complex, which is not only the starting point for night cruises on the Chao Phraya River but also features rich art exhibitions, infusing the area with a strong cultural atmosphere. The unique art installations in the mall make it a great place for shopping and exploring local culture.
The old town of Bangkok is vast, blending history, art, and cuisine. For travelers who love to wander and explore culture, it is worth spending one to two days slowly experiencing it. Whether it's the traditional charcoal-grilled toast or the creative street art, every corner of Chinatown holds a piece of Bangkok life. Here, you will feel a distinctly different Bangkok vibe, leaving you with indelible beautiful memories.

Beautiful street art at Talat Noi
Explored Talat Noi and got to see its beautiful street art. Visited on a weekday late afternoon and it was not crowded at all. Talat Noi has several vintage cafes to explore and they are all within walking distance. Glad to have chanced upon this street after my visit to the popular Hong Sieng Kong cafe (which i also passed by while exploring Talat Noi). The nearest MRT would be Hua Lampong station and Talat Noi is about 10-15 mins walk away.

Talad Noi, which means small market, is sure to win the hearts of everyone who visits this less frequented part of Bangkok. Every alley will have visitors weaving through monuments that are certainly rare for a big city like Bangkok.
You can simply get there by BRT - near Phaya Thai or Chaopa ya pier. Talat Noi has so many street arts, you can experience China town or get around in River City Bangkok, Warehouse 30, ATT9 or Thai Creative Design Center.

Choco.project Charoen Krung
A stylish café review for chocolate lovers. Choco.project is a pop-up chocolate shop located on the second floor of The Corner House, a century-old building in the Charoen Krung area near Talat Noi.
The interior space is very artistic, featuring wooden furniture mixed with black tones, maintaining a minimalistic yet cool vibe that complements the color of chocolate. The walls are adorned with graphic stickers, and there's even a corner for audio equipment.
We tried the Choco Banana, a delightful combination of banana and chocolate, which is one of our favorites. Additionally, they offer a Chocolate Layer Cake, topped with white chocolate and milk chocolate, with an option to add berry toppings.
