When we had breakfast at Sek Bao Cafe, we were attracted by this colourful Nanyang Street Mount Austin Mural Arts painted on the wall. The murals add color and life to the neighborhood. It captures the playful and energetic spirit of Kungfu Panda, bringing smiles to everyone who sees it. It shows Kungfu Panda in action, performing his iconic kung fu moves. Another interesting aspect of the mural arts on Nanyang Street is the funny cartoon pictures of world-famous paintings. Artists have taken classic paintings like the Mona Lisa and added a humorous twist to them.

Spongy Cakes at Hoki Bakery Mount Austin

When we walked past Hoki Cake Bakery in Mount Austin, we smelled the yummy cakes. We had to try their famous double cheese cake, and it was so good! It's not too sweet and very soft. They were out of chocolate lava cake, but we'll get it next time. The sponge cake was delicious and a must-have.
We were surprised that the banana cake was even better than the famous one in town. The egg tart was just okay, though.
Hoki Cake Bakery is the first branch of a famous bakery from Taiwan. I like the name of the shop, Hoki means Blessing. But be ready for crowds because Mount Austin is always busy, even on weekdays. There are lots of other famous restaurants there too.

Our across the border weekend cafe adventure led us to Mount Austin, where we stumbled upon Outline. With its captivating glamping-inspired interior, this cafe offered a unique dining experience.
Despite my initial reservations about cafes with elaborate decor, Outline pleasantly surprised us with its exceptional food. From sweet potato fries to cheesy grilled chicken, each dish exceeded expectations.
The grilled chicken, enveloped in rich cheese, was flavourful, complemented perfectly by the barbecue sauce on the side. Notably, the attention to detail extended to food presentation, with the sweet potatoes fries in a tin box, enhancing the camping ambiance.

The crowd is not as much as before but still require a bit of waiting time if you come during peak hours. Their recommended dish is their crispy seafood porridge (pao fan) and you can choose which type seafood and soup base. They also have many other dishes which are popular too example their charcoal tofu, lobster, omelet and they serve a variety of drinks too. This restaurant also have outdoor seating but usually only open at night for outdoor seating. I prefer to sit inside, not so hot and a nicer environment.

#weekendgetaways bring me to Johor Bahru for weekend excitement at the art studios in Johor Bahru. The art courses here are so much cheaper and value for money. There is also no need to make reservations and you can choose which art studio to go too. Add in the spa places here for massage and relaxation after art class is so relaxing. There is thing to note is that the art studios are usually on the second floor, and you have to use staircase to go up. You can find their price list on the ground floor too. This area is not as busy as Citysquare and you can also find hotels here too. So you can enjoy a lovely weekend at Mount Austin.

There are so many nicer cafes here than at Jalan Trus area which is nearby CitySquare JB. To come here, it is easier to take a taxi or private hire because the public transport is not so convenient here. At this area, all the cafes have their own space and along the same street. It is not inside a building so there are no air-condition once you exit the cafe. Besides cafe, there are also many art studio, restaurant and spa. It is awesome for a quick weekend getaway.

#weekendgetaways bring me to Johor Bahru for weekend feasting at Chinese hot pot restaurant. The trend is Chinese hot pot and even in Malaysia, there are many hot pot restaurants too. Most of their soup contains mala which is spicy. I was here at the Xiao Long Kan 小龙坎老火锅
hot pot restaurant just outside Mount Austin waterpark. It is a traditional looking Chinese hot pot restaurant and there are many dragon motifs. I did not realize they are close after lunch for event, so I did not get to eat. However, they close at midnight so I can come back next time. Better check with the kitchen on their soup ingredients in case you have any allergies.

Looking for a pipping hot dinner to hide from the rain and the menu looks promising so we decided to try!
The lobster pao fan taste really good!!!
The broth is very rich and the small pot size can fit 2-3pax with some extra dishes!
1) Salted Kampung Chicken - chicken meat is tender and half the portion is quite alot
2) Salted egg lotus chip - super good! Must eat!
3) Crispy Stuffed Fish Fillet top with Tobiko - abit oily imo but not bad if you like cripsy fish with wasabi sauce
Total bill waa RM149 with additional 3drinks.
Pretty good deal and definitely recommend to go try!

I am a mad fan of kueh kuehs because they come in so many colours, flavours, shapes and varieties. They are just so attractive and they make perfect snacks. Ah Ma Teochew Kuih cafe has just recently opened a new branch at mount austin and good news for me, they serve pretty good kueh kuehs and food. Another plus point, the cafe is huge, clean and has a modern industrial design.
Many of their kueh kuehs are worth the mention. For instance, their gula melaka steam cake is in a cute heart shape and it has a nice sweet coconuty taste. Their muah chee was soft, chewy and comes with lots of peanuts. Another kueh to try is their fried taro bun which was crispy and had a great taro stuffing. Don't forget to order their signature ah ma milk tea too, goes well with all the sweet treats. Curry noodles was another great option for a heavier meal. A traditional push cart with kueh kuehs are also sold for take aways, remember to grab some along the way!

I am a huge dog lover and especially when dogs are men's best friend. If you're a dog lover like me and you love specifically the chow chow breed then you need to head to Chill N Chow Cafe at Mount Austin Area in Johor bahru. For RM15, you get to spend an hour with these cuddly and fluffy chow chows. Best part of the visit was there's even free coconut ice cream given at the end of your session.
There are 4 resident puppies at the cafe and within 1 hour, you can hug, carry, play and feed them with treats. There are many photo opportunities with the dogs there and I love that the whole place was kept clean. Even the dogs are healthy and happy looking. At the cafe, there are also food and drinks available. It's a fun and nice cafe and I will definitely be back again to play with these fur friends.

Situated just beside midori concept hotel, hotel guests can get a 10% discount by displaying the room card. We tried their highly reviewed Japanese chicken chop and the skin was crispy but tender inside. Came with well-seasoned crispy skin potatoes and salad.
The carbonara was yummy but would be better if portion was bigger. Black wolfberry red date tea was special and we shared a pot happily.

I think I found the best cheesecake and steak place in JB. Wanted to gate-keep this place but feel that they deserve a shout out.
Temper is famous for their various types of steak and usage of smoke-infused techniques to give the dishes that unique aroma. They have a dry ager cabinet to dry age their steaks which is not common in many restaurants. You enter the place, choose the type and weight of the steak for that day and please get their foie gras sauce to go with the steak. That is the highlight imo! Their steak also comes with smoke infused salad which tastes super good.
End the meal off with the temper signature smoked cheesecake which again you can taste that smoke infused aroma. Their cheesecake melts in your mouth and I can't wait to be back for another meal!

However, we randomly stumbled upon this cool spot while walking around Mount Austin✨ It's a tea cafe with a super chill outdoor seating area. We ordered the 15-year white tea, which tasted quite great to me. Location is a bit far from the shopping area, took grab to eat there a few times, grab ride is around 40 to 50mins time. The curry noodles is a must try very tasty and flavourful. Fried mushroom is crispy and slightly oily. Very good meals every time I go there but is quite salty overall and had to drink quite a lot of water after the meal.
