Yi Peng Festival in Chiang Mai, I want to go again next year!!
Every November, Thailand's most traditional Yi Peng Festival and Loy Krathong Festival are held as scheduled. In Chiang Mai and other northern Thai regions, the celebrations for these two festivals are even more grand and lively, like a carnival for the whole nation.
The 2024 AMAZING Muay Thai & Sky Lantern Festival is unique, combining Muay Thai performances with the release of sky lanterns, and will be held at the Old Chiang Mai Cultural Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The highlight of this event is the focus on "Muay Thai," which not only spreads Muay Thai culture to the world, but also creates a large number of job opportunities in the Chiang Mai area, attracting tourists and enthusiasts from all over the world. It not only boosts the local economy, but also promotes the long-standing traditions of Thailand and Chiang Mai, allowing its unique charm to shine on the world stage.
The event is crowded with tourists from all over the world and local Thai people. The venue is divided into three areas according to function, each with different charges. Here, people can not only appreciate the strength and charm of Muay Thai, but also enjoy the fun of DIY, making krathongs, cutting tung, weaving lanterns, etc.; watching classical dances performed by ethnic minorities, appreciating exquisite Thai handicrafts, and feasting on Lanna cuisine.
After being mesmerized by the wonderful performance of the "Beautiful Thailand" opening show, people gently release the sky lanterns in their hands, full of good wishes, as the host counts down passionately. In an instant, tens of thousands of sky lanterns rise into the sky, like stars, weaving a dreamlike starry sky, which is spectacular.
In Thailand, releasing krathongs and sky lanterns are equally significant. The Loy Krathong Festival is not only a grand festival to celebrate the harvest and pray for peace, but also a sweet moment for lovers to express their love, so it is also known as the Thai Valentine's Day. During this festival, every household will carefully make krathongs, decorated with candles, banana leaves, and colorful flowers, and then light them and put them into the river to pray to the river god for blessings, hoping for disasters to go away and blessings to be abundant. Tourists can choose their favorite krathongs at the lively market and join this blessing appointment.
In short, although the Loy Krathong Festival and Yi Peng Festival in Thailand are different in form, they are both diverse presentations of the same festival culture, and together they form the colorful cornerstone of Thai folk culture, fully demonstrating the romantic feelings of the Thai people and their passionate longing for a better life.

Chiang Mai | Skip the line at Chom and head to this glasshouse cafe instead.
I had a whole A4 page of cafes I wanted to visit during my 4 days in Chiang Mai. Since it was the Christmas and New Year holiday, I decided to skip the popular cafes like Chom because I didn't want to waste time waiting in line. Today, I'm recommending a retro plant-themed cafe. I always think that the best cafes are the ones that look better in person than in photos. Besides the environment, the food and atmosphere are also important. It's hard to enjoy a meal in a crowded place.
🌟 Name: Keep in Touch
🍃 Environment: There are two small houses, one in the front and one in the back. The front house is for dining, and the glasshouse in the back is for parties. Most people take photos in the glasshouse, so dining is not affected. We went at noon, and there were only a few Thai girls taking photos.
🍴 Food: The food was good, especially the desserts. The red wine pear ice cream was delicious.
👗 Outfit: Retro or French outfits are more suitable for the scene.
🚗 Transportation: It takes about 20 minutes by Grab. Search for ONE ONE PLACE on the map. KEEP IN TOUCH is next to it.

11.15 Sky Lantern Festival found the real-life scene of 3,000 lanterns.
🙆♂️The annual Chiang Mai Sky Lantern Festival
Brings "3,000 lanterns for you, flowers bloom all over the city for you" into reality
I never thought that the sky lantern festival could be so shocking🥹
When I saw the sky lanterns slowly rising in the sky and on the water
Everyone was amazed
And the fireworks bloom among the sky lanterns🎆
It further sets the romantic atmosphere
Finally, all the sky lanterns gathered into a galaxy🌌 and drifted away with our wishes
.
📍Share my tips today, hope it can help you
1️⃣Where to take the reflection
You can see the last 2 pictures for details, which are clearly marked. It is recommended to go there directly when the door opens
.
2️⃣Specific itinerary
14:00 Hotel pick-up and drop-off
16:30 Arrive at the venue
16:30–17:30 You can have some free buffet first. Thai tea and bamboo rice are good, and there are some live singing and dancing performances to watch
17:30–18:00 You can queue up to prepare for entry
18:00 Enter the venue and go directly to the fountain to wait
19:30 Start releasing sky lanterns
20:00 Leave the venue
.
3️⃣What are the specific activities of the sky lantern festival
There will be 3 rounds in total, each round lasts about 2 minutes, and the fireworks are in the last round
.
4️⃣How to take better photos
It is recommended to take a video in the first round, take photos in the second round, and go directly to the venue to take photos of fireworks in the third round. This order is the best, and you can take photos of all
.
5️⃣Equipment and parameters for taking photos of sky lanterns
I prepared a mobile phone and a camera
The mobile phone directly turned on 2x zoom, locked the focus, and reduced the exposure by 1 level
Camera focal length 55, ISO 5000, aperture 2.0, shutter 1/60
The above two are parameters that have been tested and will not be blurred
.
❗️Other tips❗️
✅The official will provide mosquito repellent, so don't worry
❤️Food will be checked at the entrance, but it is not strict
👍Bring a bag or a folding stool, you can sit while queuing

Chiang Mai Train Travel Guide: Take a train from Chiang Mai to Nan, and enjoy the scenery along the way.
Yesterday, I took a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. This morning, I took a train from Chiang Mai to Nan.
The train ticket cost 50 baht, which is only CNY 10. The journey took nearly 2 hours. There was no security check at the station, and no checkpoints on the train. After boarding, the conductor checked the tickets. The conductor's station announcements were fun!
In Thailand, trains are divided into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class, but not by carriage. Instead, they are divided by train. 1st and 2nd class trains are air-conditioned, while 3rd class trains are not. If you want to be more comfortable, buy a 1st or 2nd class ticket. You need a passport to buy a train ticket!
The train was not crowded, and there were many empty seats. The passengers were quiet, and there was no congestion. There was even no one talking loudly, making phone calls, or playing music. This was really great!
If you come to Chiang Mai, you must experience the local train! Looking forward to the trip to Nan!

First time in Thailand - Chiang Mai nightlife.
Chiang Mai Night Market
Chiang Mai's nightlife is colorful and diverse. I personally experienced it and recommend the following:
- Nimmanhaemin Road: A popular spot for local young people. It's a 10-15 minute ride from the old city. The most concentrated bars are in lanes 7 and 9, such as the popular Mirror Cafe, which has a beer garden, pool tables, and live music. The bars here are cheap, with beer costing around THB 80. At the end of lane 6, there are large nightclubs such as Infinity, Warmup, and Tawandang around the parking lot. Tickets are generally THB 200, and beer is THB 100-200.
- Zoe in Yellow Bar: The most popular bar in the old city. The crowd gradually increases after 9pm. There is a DJ and a lively dance floor. It is a gathering place for foreigners and young people.
- North Gate Jazz Club: Chiang Mai's oldest jazz bar. The atmosphere is good and it is crowded every night. It is mostly frequented by foreign tourists. The beer is affordable and you can experience unique live jazz.
- Bus Bar: Converted from an old bus, it is located next to the Iron Bridge. There are different bands performing every night. The atmosphere is relaxed and it is suitable for chatting with friends.
- Le Hellow: Popular with tourists from around the world. The DJ is outstanding. It starts to get lively around 10pm. There are many Europeans. There are three venues: outdoor, middle, and indoor.
Chiang Mai bars generally close at 2am. There are also later nightclubs. Young people should remember to save a photo of their passport on their phone, as it may occasionally be required.

Exploring the Small Town of Chiang Mai—Non-Instagrammable Spots
Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai Zoo, Doi Suthep, and Huai Su Waterfall are worth spending a day or a few days exploring.
Chiang Mai University is not a tourist attraction, but it is more appealing to us than typical tourist spots.
The view of Doi Suthep from the lawn on the south side of Jingxin Lake at Chiang Mai University is even more beautiful than the view from within Doi Suthep.
The university's color is purple, and the purple shuttle buses traversing the lush campus give a scene reminiscent of a Hayao Miyazaki film, according to my daughter.
Walking around the lake offers different scenic views at every step, each one a boutique.
The coffee shops and food stalls within the university are all excellent. We were particularly impressed by the caramel pudding in the shared space, the light salad from the food stall, the avocado smoothie, and the Khao Pad Kra Pao, each from different stalls.
The zoo is not particularly outstanding, but you can buy an all-day ticket for the electric car. I accompanied my 11-year-old child for four rounds, which made the ticket worth it. Plus, there are capybaras that are popular with children.
We didn't specifically visit the Sticky Waterfall but went to the less crowded Huai Su Waterfall to wade in the water.

Thailand/Chiang Mai/City Walk Experience Thai exquisite slow life!
🌴Chiang Mai is a city in northern Thailand with a beautiful environment and cool climate. It is famous for its roses and is known as the 'Rose of Northern Thailand'. It has a long history and is second only to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, in terms of development. The city is beautiful and full of flowers and plants.
Scenic recommendation
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
Located on Doi Suthep, the viewing platform offers a panoramic view of Chiang Mai. The most famous is the 309 steps you have to climb before going up. These long steps are guarded by two dragon sculptures, hence the name Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. The main hall is really golden, shining under the noon sun
Wat Phra Singh
A century-old ancient temple, it is also the second most important temple in Chiang Mai, with classic red tile and gold edge architecture and Lanna style. Every April during the Songkran Festival, the temple holds the largest annual Buddha bathing event
Wat Chiang Man
The first temple in Chiang Mai, the whole temple gives a very fresh feeling. Rather than a temple, it is more like a garden, with various Lanna and Sri Lankan style buildings surrounded by green trees. The green plant coverage rate is really high, it is very suitable for leisurely walks here
Wat Srisuphan
The whole is silver, so it is also called the Silver Temple. The building adopts the Lanna style brick and stone structure and exquisite aluminum silver decoration. This three-dimensional art depicts Buddhist stories, Buddhist puzzles, and the history of the temple. Its purpose is not only to protect religion and preserve local silver wisdom, but also to make future generations proud of the Lanna Kingdom
Wat Rong Khun
The most beautiful temple in northern Thailand, most tourists' first reaction here is exclamation, the pure white temple is really beautiful and holy. With white as the base and silver mirror edging, it reflects dazzling light, symbolizing the purity of the Buddha and the wisdom of the Buddha illuminating the entire universe
Guanyin Temple
The temple is located on a small hill, and you can see the pure and flawless giant Guanyin statue standing in the distance from a distance. This Guanyin statue and the white giant dragon guarding the steps on both sides are also ins net red check-in points. In addition, there is a beautiful nine-story pagoda Guanyin Hall next to it, which combines Lanna, Chinese and European art, and is worth seeing
Wat Rong Suea Ten
This is also the work of the disciple of the author of the White Temple, and like the White Temple, it mainly plays a color system. The exquisite blue temple is eye-catching. Although the scale is not large, seeing it with your own eyes will really be amazed by the deep blue color of the sea. The murals in the main hall are also very exquisite and dreamy
Kanta Elephant Sanctuary
Also known as the Elephant Refuge Center, it was established in 2015 specifically to provide protection for retired elephants and is a public welfare elephant protection camp.
Food recommendation🍱
Raw marinated prawns
You must eat raw marinated when you come to Thailand! The shrimp meat is firm, fresh and sweet with a hint of sour and spicy, the taste is delicate and smooth, it tastes a bit like sashimi, soft and soft, with sour and spicy sauce, the taste is super fresh
Grilled pork belly
The pig skin is really crispy, very chewy, and the pure meat flavor when eaten alone. With the three-flavored Thai dipping sauce, you can put more dipping sauce for a while. After absorbing the juice, the meat flavor and sour and spicy sauce collide on the tip of the tongue. I think I'm drooling again, forgive me for being a meat lover.
Lychee soda water
I forgot the full name, the first sip has an amazing feel~ The sweetness of lychee and the coolness similar to mint are mixed, it tastes good, highly recommended!
Practical small tips:
Before I saw all platforms saying that the queue was fierce, but we went at 9 o'clock in the evening, so there were many vacancies. It is recommended that you can go later. The restaurant stops entering at ten o'clock, so pay attention to the time!
Transportation
It only takes 1 hour to fly from Bangkok, or you can take a train, leave in the evening and arrive in the morning. The train ticket is about 300 RMB, and the air ticket depends on the time. It is cheap at 1~200 RMB.

4* Hotel in Chiangmai
During the last 2 nights at Chiang Mai we stayed at U Chiang Mai. A very cosy and nice decor, both the bedroom and the hotel interior. One of the toilet wall tiles was in gold. Very bold contrast of the shower room. They have complimentary guided tour in the morning and selected days in the afternoon. The hotel offers a drink per person from the fridge throughout the stay. I personally felt that if it’s per day basic, it will be a much better service. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Right in the middle of the old city. They serve all day breakfast from the menu, only 1 setting, which is very good and flexible. However you can order as many types of breakfast you want to have. Kind of like the concept. Overall a very satisfactory stay. Rate: 4.4/5. Price: $$$
