We were shocked at how many good shops there were around Chiang Mai- lots being very modern, selling beautiful handmade items. We visited the completely silver covered temple & then sat and had a Chang Classic beer, as we people watched at a local bar. Every year Wat Chedi Luang is hosting Overnight prayer event on December 31st. In my opinion, it was the best place to do overnight prayer in Chiangmai. There were seating on all side of the pagoda, plenty of chairs available. In the beginning, they would allocate prayer books so it was easy to follow the prayer. At the end, the would give small amulets to everyone. The setting was incredibly charming. The pagoda itself was beautiful. It was such a spiritual event after all. It is cast in bronze and is 18 cubits high. In front of the entrance to the temple, there is a staircase of Naga slithering up with their tails intertwined to form a beautiful temple arch. This pair of Naga is an ancient work of art that has been around since the beginning and is considered the most beautiful Naga in the North. It is the largest temple in the center of Chiang Mai. In the year 20 B.E., Phra Chao Saen Mueang dreamed that his father came to see him, so he built a temple for his father. Later, in the year 2020, Phra Chao Tilokarat said that the pagoda was too small, so he ordered the craftsmen to design and expand it to be wider and taller. He named the temple Ratchakuti, which means the king's kuti. An emerald gem was brought from Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao to be enshrined. There is the Inthakhin Pillar Vihara temple which unfortunately only men are allowed to enter (ladies are not allowed to enter because they believe the women's menstruation affects the sanctity of the temple) but it was not a big turn off as there are a lot of other things to see. This temple’s area was so huge. Located in old town Chiang Mai, this place was always busy. You need to buy a ticket first then you can come inside the temple. It was a freaking hot, humid day.
