Hidden Temple in Chiang Mai That Few People Know About
Wat Pha Lat is a very beautiful temple located in a large forest. It is an ancient temple from the Lanna period, over 500 years old. It is situated in the forest along the way to Doi Suthep, not far from Chiang Mai city. It is very easy to get to, even small cars can reach it. This is another very beautiful and peaceful temple in Chiang Mai. Upon entering the temple grounds, it feels like a magical place, shaded by large and small trees, lush and cool with a refreshing atmosphere.

📌Hidden Temple In Chiang Mai📌
•
The city of Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai actually has many historical places. This time I want to share about the Hidden Temple in Chiang Mai, called Wat Pha Lat or also known as “The Monastery of The Sloping Rocks”.
Wat Pha Lat is a hidden gem in the middle of a forest. This place is rarely known by foreigners, most of those who come here are local. The distance itself is a few KM from Doi Suthep Temple.
Formerly Wat Pha Lat was used as a resting place for people who wanted to make pilgrimages and worship at the Doi Suthep temple. Then the location developed into a place of meditation and residence of monks.
This temple was built during the reign of King Kuena (1355-1385). History says that the king's white elephant stopped and knelt at this spot while walking up the mountain.
The animal continued on its way but died on arriving at the top of the hill, whereupon King Kuena ordered the construction of the Doi Suthep temple on the very spot where the white elephant died.
King Kuena also ordered the construction of temples in three other places (resting/resting places for white elephants), one of which was at Wat Pha Lat. Now these places are considered holy places.

Natural meditation therapy at Wat Phalat
If you are looking for the most peaceful and natural temple for meditation and nature therapy in Chiang Mai city, this is the place for you. #Wat Phalat The temple is on the same way up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Doi Pui will be on the left hand side. It is a temple that is surrounded by nature. The sound of waterfalls and streams, cool breezes from nature, whether you sit and reflect on yourself, look at the view of Chiang Mai or meditate, this place is great. But you have to go on a day when there are not many people. 😅 During this time, there will be a lot of tourists, so try to arrange your time to go see. #Chiang Mai #Worship #Suitable for meditation #Temples in Chiang Mai

Wat Phalat 🏯
Wat Phalat or (Wat Sakitakami) 🏯
It is a temple located at the foot of the hill on the way up to Wat Doi Suthep. The entrance to the temple is on the left. It may be difficult to get to because it is a curved road up the hill.
After passing the gate, the entrance to the temple is a sloping road. You have to drive carefully. There is a parking lot for cars, but not much. 🛵
Before entering the temple area, there is a small coffee shop with inexpensive prices. The coffee is good too.
- When entering the temple, it is like another world. The atmosphere is good and quiet. There will be a sign prohibiting loud noises. The air is cool because there are trees covering the entire temple area.
The church is beautiful in a northern style. Many places may be ruins, but they are repaired. Inside the temple, there is a waterfall flowing from the top of the hill.
- The highlight of this temple is the photo corner where you can see Chiang Mai city. It is a beautiful low angle. Some areas are lush and green with moss covering the entire temple.
The Buddha statue at the temple is unlike any other temple I have been to.
- The temple has strict rules on clothing. There is a small clothing shop for those who did not bring clothes or long dresses because there are rules on clothing. 🧍♀️🧍

🛣Wat Phalat, an ancient temple with secret spots that no one has ever known about🛣
Wat Phalat is located in Suthep Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. There is no evidence of the name Wat Phalat in ancient documents, but the name Wat Phalat was mentioned during the reign of King Kuena when he brought the relics that Phra Maha Sumana Thera brought from Sukhothai on an elephant to be enshrined at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. He stopped to rest at Phalat. This area was originally a resting point because the path up to Doi Suthep is very steep after this point, but it has always been a pilgrimage route. Therefore, a shrine, pagoda, and other items related to Buddhism were built for Buddhists to worship since at least 500 years ago and have been continuously renovated for 200-300 years until it reached its current state.
At Wat Dee, those interested in practicing Dhamma, meditating, and calming their minds will also find a small waterfall and a view of Chiang Mai.
Important points:
You should dress politely and neatly to show respect for the place.

Trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand 🇹🇭
It is my second time to Chiang Mai, Thailand. We started our day early and hiked the Monk’s Trail to Wat Pha Lat, a serene temple hidden in the forest 🌳 Unlike the crowded spots, this temple is peaceful and feels untouched. We loved photographing the moss-covered stone paths, tranquil streams, and intricate carvings. Arriving at sunrise ⛅️ around 6:30 AM gave us soft light and fewer people, making it perfect for pictures.
📍Suthep-Pui National Park, Tambon Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200
We also ventured up Doi Suthep to discover Ban Khun Chang Khian, a small Hmong village known for its cherry blossoms 🌸 in January and February. Even without the blossoms, the rustic charm of the village, combined with misty mountain views, was enchanting. I’d recommend visiting in the late morning (around 10 AM) when the clouds begin to lift, revealing the landscape 😍
📍Khun Chang Khian Rd, Chang Phueak, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50300
We also explored Baan Kang Wat, an artsy village tucked away from the city. The quaint studios, local craft shops, and hidden garden cafes ☕️ were a photographer’s dream 📸 The lighting around 4 PM added a magical golden hue to our shots. I would recommend spending an afternoon ☀️ here, sipping coffee while capturing the creative atmosphere 🙌🙌🙌

📍191/1 Moo 5, Tambon Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200
For an unconventional night shot, we visited the Iron Bridge, where colorful lights reflect beautifully on the Ping River. The calm ambiance and vibrant lighting made it one of our favorite spots for long-exposure shots 📸 Arriving around 7 PM gave us the perfect mix of blue-hour and city lights ✨

Wat Pha Lat
When visiting Chiang Mai, the first place that comes to mind is usually Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. However, before reaching Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, there is another hidden temple along the way. This temple offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere, with the sound of flowing waterfalls and lush green nature, providing a sense of purity and peace unlike any other.
Today, I would like to introduce you to another significant temple that tourists often visit: Wat Pha Lat. The name 'Pha Lat' comes from the word 'Pha Loet,' which means 'slippery,' due to the sloping area where the temple is built, making it easy for visitors to slip and fall. Hence, the temple was named after this characteristic.
The temple's name appears in historical documents and chronicles alongside Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is recorded that during the reign of King Kuena, he brought a relic of the Buddha from Sukhothai, carried on the back of an elephant, to be enshrined at Doi Suthep. During this journey, he stopped at the area of Pha Lat, which was then an abandoned temple. The Ministry of Education declared it no longer a monk's temple on March 2, 1981, and it has since been restored and revived as a temple and meditation center.
The temple is easy to find, located about 5 kilometers up from the Kruba Monument at the base of Doi Suthep. The architecture, including buildings and pagodas, is designed in Burmese style. This location was also used as a scene in the drama 'Rak Nakara.'
If you visit Chiang Mai, don't forget to pay homage to the Buddha relics here. There are many beautiful photo spots, and you might not be able to see everything in one day. For more detailed and accurate information, check out the 'Aew Dee Review' page.

Chiang Mai | The most beautiful ancient temple hidden in the Doi Suthep Mountain
I didn't go to the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, but chose the Wat Palad halfway up the mountain instead, and it was well worth the visit, truly beautiful!
Here's the transportation route I took:
🌟 I took a taxi directly to Wat Palad, making sure not to go to the Wat Palad trailhead at the foot of the mountain, as the temple is located halfway up the mountain.
When using Bolt, the driver will charge extra because the mountain roads are difficult to navigate, and it's also hard to get a return trip from there. Starting from the Nimman area, it cost me 150 baht.
After getting off, a short walk up a small slope for a minute or two will get you there.
🌟 I saw that many people chose to walk to the trailhead at the foot of the mountain and then hike up. It takes about an hour one way.
🌟 Since I didn't go to the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep at the top of the mountain, I shared a songthaew ride down the mountain. They leave when full, so you have to wait for enough people, and it costs 100 baht per person.

Enter the tranquil and vicissitudes of Wat Pala in Chiang Mai on foot.
I love the tranquility and vicissitudes of Pala Temple
When you walk on the mountain path intertwined with vines.
Listen to the sound of the stream flowing on both sides.
Slowly walk towards it.
Experience the solemn beauty of ancient temples and monasteries.
No matter if you are sitting or standing in front of the mottled Buddha statue
Still lying on the rocks by the waterfall, watching Chiang Mai Province.
At this moment.
You will involuntarily empty yourself of emotions.
Feel the integration of oneself and nature.
📝
📍Navigation: Pala Temple Trailhead (accurate navigation, park your car on the side of the road, refer to the last picture)
❤️There is only one route for going up and down the mountain (the loop line is not open), and there are basically no forks. About 70% of the whole journey is covered by tree shade, so you won't feel the heat and sun exposure. There are many stones along the way, as well as vines and tree roots that add a lot of climbing interest.
Equipment
1️⃣Quick-drying long-sleeved shirt, pants tucked into socks to prevent mosquitoes and insects.
2️⃣At least wear non-slip sports shoes, be careful not to slip when going downhill.
Warm reminder
✔️The stones with water on them are especially slippery. Mom must be careful and watch over the baby to prevent slipping.
✔️There are steep slopes in 4-5 places along the way, but as long as mom carefully watches the baby throughout the journey, there will be no problems.
✔️Dress appropriately, wear long pants and a shirt.
❤️Ice cream and coconuts🥥 are sold outside the temple.

Chiang Mai's beautiful hike to Wat Pha Lat temple
❤️Recommendation reason:
Chiang Mai has many temples, some magnificent like Wat Chedi Luang, some brilliant like Wat Phra Singh, some splendid like Chiang Mai Royal Cemetery, and some bright like Wat Lamphun. Some say Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is the most beautiful temple in Chiang Mai, and its beauty lies in its elegance.
🚉Transportation guide:
Take a taxi to Wat Pha Lat Hike (Monk's trail), which is near Chiang Mai Zoo. The car can go directly to the starting point of the hiking trail. The entrance is not very noticeable, there is a green route map wooden sign, and behind it is the road up the mountain.
📝Attention tips:
For the first few minutes, the road up the mountain is steep and there is no neat path. It is a dirt road stepped on by mountain rocks or tree roots. Wearing hiking shoes is a wise choice. After 10 minutes, the mountain road gradually becomes gentle and there are more tree shades. Soon, a beautiful mountain path twists and turns, leading people into a beautiful scenery. Butterflies flutter, and the mountain stream appears and disappears from time to time. A deep and green path leads you all the way up, as if entering the world of Avatar. The tropical vines above the head are as thick as arms, twisted into various shapes around the big trees, dotted with large tropical flowers. After walking for about half an hour, you can hear the distant bell ringing. After a few more steps, bend down and pass through a flower cave, and a small bridge appears in front of you. You have arrived.
Located in a small fairy valley, a stream flows down the valley along the wide mountain rocks. The pagoda and corridors are stretched out, each one very beautiful, especially the suspended pavilion at the entrance of the back door, where a white Buddha statue overlooks the valley. In front, the huge banana leaves sway under the blue sky and white clouds, and in the distance, the ancient city of Chiang Mai can be faintly seen. The wooden floor is spotless, making it a great place for meditation.
Before the mountain road was built, Pala Monastery was the only way for monks to reach the mountaintop temple and was used for rest stops along the way. Nowadays, with cars coming and going on the mountain road, this small path to Pala Monastery has become a good route for light hiking. It used to be famous for its tranquility, but with the strong recommendation of netizens, on the day I went there, tourists were constantly coming and going, and it had lost its peacefulness. Nevertheless, it still retains its elegance and beauty, and if you arrive early in the morning, you should be able to better appreciate its wonders.
In front of the main gate, there are tuk-tuks and taxis. It costs 250 baht to return to the ancient city, so it's better to use your own two feet and walk back. The downhill road is easier and more enjoyable. When you reach the foot of the mountain, walk for another 20 minutes and you will arrive near Chiang Mai University.

Wat Phalat, Chiang Mai
Wat Phalat or Wat Sakitakami is a very beautiful and peaceful temple. You can see Chiang Mai from the temple. This temple has two main rules: no loud noises and appropriate clothing. This temple is considered a very peaceful temple and few people know about it, unless you are a tourist who loves ecotourism or nature tourism. Wat Sakitakami is beautiful. As described, you may not be able to imagine it. Starting from when we entered the temple, the temple has a small parking lot, but it is well organized. On the left is a roadside. On the left is a small clothing store. It is suitable for those who did not bring clothes or long dresses because the temple has strict rules about clothing. Therefore, we should strictly follow the rules. Inside the temple, the view is beautiful. For those who love taking pictures, this temple is a highlight. Because the light hits the trees and leaves. In the afternoon, you will get beautiful pictures. Inside the temple, there are many Buddha statues, which are beautiful art. It is very difficult to find. #Winter attractions

#holidayvacation There are dozens of temples in Chiang Mai, but Wat Pha Lat is our favorite temple we've visited by far.
First, it is surrounded by the jungle, so it has a completely different feel than the temples within the Old City. Second, it can only be reached by hiking, which eliminates many tourists. The crowds at Wat Pha Lat are far fewer than at many of the other temples in Chiang Mai, so it feels really special.
