Buddhavanaram Temple (Mahasarakham)
"Buddhavanaram Temple or Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen" is located in Mahasarakham Province.
Address: Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen (Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen) is situated at Ban Wang Nam Yen, Tumbon Keng, Amphoe Mueang, Mahasarakham Province, covering an area of over 30 rai. It was officially elevated to a temple on November 22, 2012, and is affiliated with the Maha Nikaya fraternity. Currently, Phra Ajarn Suriyant Khosapanyo, a well-known monk, holds the position of abbot at Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen.
The Origin of Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen
The temple's establishment dates back to 2006 when Phra Ajarn Suriyant was the abbot of Wat Burapha Thepnimit in Kalasin Province. He was a disciple of Luang Pu Kamphan Khosapanyo, a famous monk in the northeastern region, which led the faithful Buddhists of Mahasarakham to donate the land where Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen currently stands, allowing Phra Ajarn Suriyant to build this temple as a spiritual center for Buddhists in general.
The temple features a large preaching hall built with 112 wooden pillars, constructed mainly using wood such as redwood, hardwood, and teak, making it the largest in Thailand. Inside the temple, there are three pure gold Buddha statues, each weighing over 12 kilograms, which are paraded around the town during the annual Kathina ceremony for the public to worship.
Today, Buddhavanaram Temple or Wat Pa Wang Nam Yen is not only a place of faith for local Buddhists and the general Buddhist community but also a renowned Buddhist tourism destination in Mahasarakham City. It has become a must-visit spot in the province, attracting tourists to come and pay homage, worship, and seek blessings for increased prosperity, continuously drawing visitors without fail.
