Wang Yuyang: Painting
Nov 7, 2024–Jan 5, 2025
Long Museum (West Bund), West Building
The exhibition features the "painting" works of Wang Yuyang, a Chinese artist born in the 1970s. The themes include the deconstruction and reproduction of light, the extension and overlap of time, the creation and destruction of machines, and the threshold and migration of artificial nature. The exhibition presents the artist's anxiety and doubt about traditional art media in the media environment of "human-technology-nature," but it also includes his love for painting from within life.

A New Avant-Garde: A New Perspective Through the Lens
As part of the five-year exhibition collaboration between the West Bund Museum and the Centre Pompidou, the special exhibition unit in Hall 3 presents a new avant-garde, showcasing a new perspective through the lens.
Some of these photos are another way of preserving performance art; some are the embodiment of the artist's inspiration when combining art and modern technology; some are the artist's self-discovery during the creation process, and so on.
As a viewer, interpreting these photos is also an interesting thing. Photography skills are no longer the most important thing, and regardless of whether the artist's creative technique is realistic or abstract, just as there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's hearts, whether or not you can interpret the artist's creative ideas and artistic conception, how to interpret them is a unique pleasure for the readers.

Exhibition in Shanghai | Free Exhibition "Mole" at West Bund Museum
West Bund Museum is one of the few free exhibitions. You can see it as soon as you enter from Longteng Avenue.
The exhibition is arranged in a room-like room, dim and mysterious. Mainly some films, several dancers were invited to record their activities in their respective rooms.
So where is the exhibition name "Mole" reflected? A group of exploded models seem to be experimental rats. There is also the peeping from the sky to the ground, climbing stairs, observing from the cracks, the rooms are staggered, it is the entrance and maybe the exit. I can only say that I don't understand.

No way, has Shanghai's exhibition reached this level?
🔥Help! I was actually moved to tears by a starry sky exhibition! This is Shanghai's new exhibition [Starry Sky Future], a 1-hour immersive universe travel experience. The moment the starry sky appeared before my eyes, I was really moved.
🌃In addition to the incredibly romantic starry sky, what moved me more was its presentation of the universe:
1️⃣Chapter 1: Time
The Earth is 4.5 billion light years away from the sun, so how many light years does it take to fly to the end of the universe? This is the awe of mankind for eternal time.
2️⃣Chapter 2: Space
Immersive travel through many galaxies, reaching the universe 46 billion light years away. Even if you fly at the speed of light to the known boundary, you still haven't reached the edge of the universe.
3️⃣Chapter 3: Life
Are there other lives in the vast universe? Does the Proxima Centauri where the Three-Body Problem really exist? Compared with the eternity of time and the infinity of space, the never-ending exploration and endless imagination of mankind is also a vast universe.
🌸It's really suitable for parent-child families to check in, it's very educational, and the kids are very interested! Of course, it's also a super romantic activity to invite friends and girlfriends! (Tears in my eyes: I love this starry sky!!!)

This is so Shanghai... I suspect you're hosting a very new exhibition.
My child and I were captivated by the Deep Space Future exhibition for a whole hour.
🌟 We chose the "8K Ultimate Selection" theme, which was a really cool sensory experience.
🌟 It was both educational about the universe and vividly explained world-famous paintings.
🌟 The exhibition used cutting-edge visual imaging and virtual reality technology to challenge our senses and bring knowledge to our minds.
🌟 My child was very engaged throughout the whole exhibition and even helped the staff collect cushions at the end.
🌟 I can't wait to bring my child back to see the "Space Travel" and "Escape from Famous Paintings" themes.

8K Space Exhibition, Exploring the Romance of the Universe
Allow me to marvel at the power of modern technology!
I just returned from space, thanks to the Deep Space Future at the West Bund Art Museum, which made my space travel dream come true.
Following the distance from the sun, the eight major planets of the solar system were explained in order from nearest to farthest: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The in-depth explanations on-site were more like a science exhibition, suitable for both adults and children.
Interstellar travel, experiencing the vast universe, and feeling the romance on a cosmic scale.

I can't hide it anymore, the most romantic exhibition in Shanghai recently!.
I've been obsessed with the mysterious universe since I was a child, and Shanghai has done it again, bringing the cosmic astronomical journey to the West Bank. I went with my friends without hesitation, and we had an immersive interstellar journey.🧳
The exhibition is divided into three chapters:
🌟Chapter 1: Time
Board the spaceship and set off from the dazzling aurora in Antarctica, travelling at superluminal speed through the solar system🌌, witnessing the magnificent birth of stars and the endless devouring power of black holes.◼️
🌟Chapter 2: Space
Next stop, the breathtaking asteroid belt and a romantic encounter with Jupiter🪐. The beautiful scenery along the way is unforgettable, and before I knew it, I was 46 billion light-years away, seeing the light-year endpoint like a crystal ball, but the end of the universe is far from it, looking forward to further breakthroughs in the future!
🌟Chapter 3: Life
At the last stop, I learned about the conditions necessary for a planet to nurture life, and the moment the Earth's outer shell appeared was truly speechless, and I also felt the insignificance of life. In the vast universe, only two planets besides Earth have the conditions to nurture life.
The next second, the twelve constellations♈️ came into view, and I also got the most romantic constellation - "Cygnus Constellation", and finally followed the navigator to find the answer to life.
The universe is vast, and time is long;
The moment of encounter is the miracle of life!☄️
This journey is not only a visual feast, but also a whole new understanding of the universe, so hurry up and make an appointment with your friends!!! (Also super suitable for parent-child, satisfying children's fantasies about the universe)
Small tips: Don't miss the easter egg at the end, it's really good for taking photos!📷

🐢 How extensive is the exhibition in Shanghai? The following joint exhibitions are taking place almost simultaneously: West Bund Art Museum - Centre Pompidou, UCCA - Berlin National Gallery of Ancient Art, Powerlong Museum - Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, Pudong Art Museum - Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum. The result of these exhibitions is that the horizons of the audience are also elevated.

🐢The West Coast Art Museum has a different kind of exhibition hall: 0. Since its opening, Exhibition Hall 0 has invited young artists such as Yu Ji, Chen Wei, Nabuqi, Hu Xiaoyuan, Yao Qingmei, and Cui Jie to create works, turning a square space into a place of endless possibilities.
·
🐢The current exhibition is Chen Zhou's 'Travelogue', where one can hear the calls of cranes, and the exhibition text is imbued with a sense of ease. The 'Superior Pavilion' in the center of the exhibition hall is suspended in the air, showing that one can also lie flat while viewing the exhibition.

Location: West Bund Art Museum Exhibition Hall 0

The latest way to view exhibitions in Shanghai is to lie down.
West Bund Art Museum is currently exhibiting Chen Zhou's Journey Map, which features several of the artist's paintings and a new video work, inviting viewers to explore how the spiritual world of contemporary people should be situated, attempting to reawaken a broader sense of time and space.
The most attractive aspect of this exhibition hall is undoubtedly the way of viewing the exhibition: lying down. Visitors can lie down to watch the video installations on the ceiling screens, or do nothing at all, simply lie flat, release the pressures of life, and temporarily forget all the noise and troubles in the art.

Shanghai Locals' Favorite Spot for Walking with Kids | This Exhibition is Extended! You can visit during the May Day holiday
🛴Xuhui Riverside is definitely in the TOP 10 spots for walking with kids in Shanghai, it's very comfortable for cycling and walking, and it's also photogenic~
🎨The 'Vine Dance Wonder' exhibition at the West Bund Art Museum has been extended! It's really suitable for preschoolers
✅Soft Interactive Installations
The venue is spacious and bright, making it easy to keep an eye on the kids, who can roam freely
Upon entering, bags are not allowed, there's a rack for water bottles, and both adults and children must remove their shoes, with barefoot adults needing to wear shoe covers. All installations are soft, clean, and very safe💯
✅Dressing Up and Imagination
The inspiration for this art exhibition comes from the pipes in the architectural design of the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The artist hopes that children will express the artwork through physical participation. The venue has 'vine fruits' of different shapes, and there's a video to guide you. You can pick up a fruit to dress up and activate your body in an elegant ballet dance.
During the 2 hours of play, I saw endless imagination in the children; they became robots, created a little squirrel's home, just like an art early education class!
✅Math Enlightenment
The fruits can be sorted, stacked, and compared in size, etc. For toddlers, parents can also interact with them. It's not possible to buy so many large materials at home, but here they can engage their greatest interest in learning math, a truly unexpected gain~
There was also a swing made by a dad, and there are quite a few ways to play here
✅Can Stay All Day
There's a ramp at the entrance of the museum, and after finishing, we also spent over an hour riding bikes
The museum has its own coffee shop and restaurant, one of which, the 4251 Happy Food Restaurant, even offers a children's meal
Basically, you can spend the whole day nearby, and it's not very crowded on weekends, we went at the museum's opening at ten

The West Bund Art Museum's 'Trilogy of Modern and Contemporary Art History' enters its final chapter! From 'Time' and 'Everything' to a focus on 'People', the new permanent exhibition uses 'Portraits' as a thread to explore the history of modern and contemporary art development.
The works on display span over a century, with nearly 300 paintings, sculptures, videos, and photographs, each face telling a story, awakening the power of artistic empathy.
The exhibition features 15 major thematic sections, starting from 'Color' and journeying through 'Distorted Faces', 'Masks', 'Ghosts', 'To the Streets', 'Women of the World', 'The Grotesque', and concluding with 'Doffing the Hat', providing many refreshing perspectives for viewing. Deep space
🐢 When did humans start exploring space? When we were still crazy primitives, stepping out of the cave, were we attracted by the star-filled sky?
·
🐢 As a child, my dream was to become an astronaut, but as I grew older, I gave up the idea from the bottom of my heart. The vastness of the universe is fascinating, yet the immense black holes and the unknown instill fear. In deep space, envision the future; in the universe, see oneself. Immerse yourself in the artistic atmosphere of the West Bund
The West Bund Art Museum has been especially convenient to enter since the lifting of the lockdown, and it has been quite crowded. There are both high-quality paid art exhibitions and plenty of free small exhibitions, which are very public-friendly.
The cloakroom is located at B1, and it's quite an atmosphere to walk a flight of stairs to store a bag. Backpacks and beverages are also not allowed to be brought in.
This time it is the Pompidou's exhibition of the origins of abstraction, which is intricately related to Chinese ink wash landscape paintings. There are also different exhibitions at the same time. All can be found in the West Bund mini-program.
The most impressive feature here is probably the observation deck on the second floor, which offers a charming view across the river to Pudong.

Exhibition Name: Cui Jie: Gift
Exhibition Location: West Bank Art Museum (2600 Longteng Avenue) 0 Exhibition Hall
Public Transportation: Metro Line 11 Yunjin Road Station, Binjiang No.1
Exhibition Date: November 10, 2023 to February 25, 2024
Exhibition Tickets: Free
Exhibition Introduction: The exhibition will explore the architectural, sculptural, and ecological changes in Shanghai and the related history and memories through Cui Jie's more than ten new paintings and a series of documents related to urban public landscapes.
Mist Language Wind Words: I personally think that the curatorial selection is questionable: the selected frame of Dong'an Park only has form, but lacks the spirit of the garden frame. Secondly, the gorgeousness of brocade and the multi-panel colors of Cui Jie's paintings overlap a bit, making it a bit complicated. I personally think that brocade is more suitable as the background for documentary materials.
This exhibition is worth watching ***.

An exhibition worth seeing: 'Impressions of Portraits' at the West Bank Art Museum
The West Bank Art Museum is located at the northernmost end of the wide riverside green belt. It was designed by the famous British architect David Chipperfield's architectural firm and took three years to build, offering an unobstructed view of the Huangpu River. Walking down the steps on the eastern edge of the square, you can reach the rest platform near the riverbank.
During this National Day holiday, come to the West Bank Art Museum to see the permanent exhibition 'Impressions of Portraits - Pompidou Center Collection Exhibition (III)', a collaborative project with the Pompidou Center's five-year exhibition.
The exhibition starts from 'color', goes through 'distorted faces', 'famous and unknown', 'portraits and artists' self-portraits, selfies', 'masks', 'on-camera', 'family portraits', 'ghosts', 'weirdos', 'to the streets', 'world women', 'tributes' and 'mirrors' and other thematic chapters, and ends with 'hat off' as the final chapter.

Viewing the Pompidou Center Collection Exhibition on the West Bank of Shanghai
The West Bank Art Museum and the Pompidou Art Center have once again jointly presented the heavyweight academic exhibition 'Reflections of Portraits - Pompidou Center Collection Exhibition'. It is divided into three parts, and it is perfectly fine to view them separately.
Every piece of work selected by Pompidou for this exhibition has a strong personal style of the artist, and also showcases some rare portrait works of abstract artists, which is really exciting to see. Such as the surrealist master De Chirico (my favorite this time, the last 2-3 pictures), abstract art, the pioneers of the Bauhaus movement, the Delaunay couple, etc.
I bought a full museum pass for 200 yuan. You can also see 'The Painting of Origin - Surrealism and the East' and Yao Qingmei's solo exhibition. I will continue to share the former when I have time.
In terms of transportation, because I haven't been to Shanghai for a long time, I took the subway directly to Yunjin Road this time, and it took only 5 minutes to walk after getting off, which is very convenient to reach the art museum.

Shanghai New Exhibition| It's nearly 300 genuine collections from the Pompidou Center
| It's nearly 300 genuine collections from the Pompidou Center. The exhibition does not tell a single, unique history of portraits, but uses 15 chapters as 15 mirrors to tell 15 different stories.”
Curator, Frédéric Paul, curator of the contemporary art collection at the Pompidou Center
Exhibition Overview
This exhibition is the final chapter of the 'trilogy of contemporary art history' in the five-year exhibition cooperation project between the West Bank Art Museum and the Pompidou Center, following 'The Form of Time' and 'The Voice of Everything'. The final chapter is here.
With 'portraits' as the clue, 15 thematic chapters, gathering nearly 300 genuine collections from the Pompidou Center from 1895 to the present!
Covering painting, sculpture, video and photography, it presents the largest number of works in the history of the West Bank Art Museum.
Exhibition Interpretation
In the all-encompassing 'portraits', the topic of 'famous people' and 'nameless people' runs through.
The concepts of 'famous' and 'nameless' originated from a series of photographs taken by German photographer August Sander between 1892 and 1954, and were given the title 'Faces of the 20th Century'.
In these photos, Sander divided the photos into eight categories according to the social status and occupations of the people in the photos. Curator Frédéric Paul summarized them into two major categories -- social celebrities and nameless people.
Of course, 'famous' and 'nameless' also include those well-known artists who have been recorded in art history and artists who will be forgotten by time. The exhibition explores the history of contemporary art development, with paintings by Van Dongen, Picasso, and Bacon, sculptures by Magritte, Giacometti, and Calder, photographs by August Sander, Man Ray, and Diane Arbus, as well as works by Chinese artists Chang Shuhong, Zhao Wuji, etc., together telling the history and changes of the 'portrait' creative technique in art history.
Warm Tips
The exhibition is on the second floor, divided into 2 exhibition halls (need to check tickets separately for entry and exit). If you look carefully, the exhibition is very long.
In addition to feeling with your heart, girls who are afraid of the cold remember to bring a small jacket. Don't ask me why I remind

The bookstore is small and beautiful, but it can definitely become the spiritual home of many people!
Transportation: Line 11 Yunjin Road Subway Station🚇
💫📍For dining, you can choose West Bank Phoenix Nest, recommend Yongfu Xiaoxian, and there is also a Neilbao Children's Science Museum on the first floor of the mall.
