A sight you have to see to believe! 🌍
This lake is one of the prettiest I’ve seen in my life and is regarded by some as the most beautiful lake in the world. Yamdrok Lake is located near Shigatse in the Tibet Autonoumous Region. It stretches 130km in length and is also known as the green jade lake for its smooth surface and color hues from the reflection of the sunlight.
If you are living in China, you can travel to Tibet with a tour company! We used JoyTours and they were wonderful.

The Starry Sky and the Milky Way in Tibe
One of the highlights of this trip is to take pictures of the starry sky and the Milky Way. We settled in the camping base by the YamdrokTso Lake the previous night. The accommodation conditions are very simple. There are male dormitories and female dormitories. Each dormitory has 5-6 people, just like the dormitory in school. Because the altitude is a bit high, and I was worried about getting up to see the stars at night, I hardly slept all night. At 4 am in the morning, the team leader called up and took pictures of the starry sky. Once step out the dormitory door, you could see the white Milky Way and the stars by eyes. IPhones can also take some photos with straight shots. But it's still inferior to a professional camera, adjust the shutter to 25 seconds, make a good post, keep it still, Kata, the blockbuster is coming! It's like walking in the universe. In addition to the beautiful scenery of YamdrokTso Lake, the Milky Way and starry sky cannot be missed. Really recommended!

Yamdrok Lake.
Visit Yamdrok Lake, one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. The winding, beautiful blue-green lake appears before our eyes. From the viewing platform on the mountain top, you can see Yamdrok Lake, which looks like a scorpion lying quietly in the valley, against the backdrop of the snow-capped mountains, blue sky and white clouds. The beauty of Yamdrok Lake lies in its color, a stunning blue that makes you question and intoxicates you.

A trip to Yamdrok Lake, where your body is in hell but your eyes are in heaven.
🔶🔹Yamdrok Lake (Tibetan: ཡར་འབྲོག་གཡུ་མཚོ།, English: Yamzho Yumco), also known as Yang Lake, means "the jade lake of the upper pasture" in Tibetan. It is located in Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region, about 70 kilometers southwest of Lhasa, with a lake surface elevation of 4,441 meters.
Yamdrok Lake is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet, along with Namtso and Mapang Yumco. The lake has an area of 638 square kilometers. The lake was formed by a glacial debris flow that blocked the river about a billion years ago. Later, due to the shrinkage of the lake water, it became an endorheic lake and was divided into several small lakes, forming more than 10 small islands. Its water source comes from the snow water of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains around it. Although there is no outlet, the dynamic balance is formed by the evaporation of nature and the inflow of snow water. Yamdrok Lake is very irregular in shape, with many branches and winding lake shores. The lake basin includes three small lakes: Kongmu Lake, Chen Lake, and Bajiu Lake. The lake has a plateau temperate semi-arid monsoon climate, and the overall landform is an east-west basin. The Ningjin Gangsha Peak and the Karola Glacier stand on the west bank of the lake. The Yamdrok Lake basin is dominated by plains and hilly landforms, with submerged plants, small floating leaf plants and other aquatic plants growing, and it is also a habitat for various water birds such as swans, yellow ducks, and bar-headed geese, and fish such as plateau naked carp and heterocaudal plateau loach.
Yamdrok Lake is a natural scenic area integrating plateau lakes, snow-capped mountains, islands, pastures, religions, water conservancy, wild animals and plants, temples and other landscapes. There are scenic spots such as Ritu Temple and Sedo Island in the scenic area.
About 100 kilometers south of Lhasa, about 2 hours' drive, you need to cross the Gangbala Pass at an altitude of about 4,990 meters. You can charter a car or take a bus to get there.

Stunning Yamdrok Lake
Yamdrok Lake, also known as Yamdrok Yumtso, means "green lake" in Tibetan and is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. It's a place that seems to heal all worries. The beauty of Yamdrok Lake is not only intoxicating, but it also has a rich cultural connotation.
When visiting Yamdrok Lake, you don't have to navigate directly to the Gangbala Pass viewing platform, which is crowded and requires a ticket. There are two recommended free viewing platforms: Rurila Viewing Platform and Langbuchi Viewing Platform. Rurila Viewing Platform is an excellent shooting point for self-driving tourists, and you can see Kula Kangri Snow Mountain when the weather is clear. From Rurila Viewing Platform, you can go to Langbuchi Viewing Platform, which is 4,600 meters above sea level and overlooks the beautiful scenery of the entire Yamdrok Lake.
📝Tips: Please pay attention to wind and sun protection. The wind at Yamdrok Lake is strong, so it is recommended to wear a windbreaker. At the same time, due to the strong ultraviolet rays, please be sure to apply sunscreen to protect your skin.
Despite this, the beautiful scenery of Yamdrok Lake is still worth a visit. The deep green lake water sparkles in the sun, and its true beauty is difficult to capture with any device. Even if you return early due to the strong wind, it is still an unforgettable travel experience.

Gangbala Pass, first sight of Yanghu
🏔💧 After a few hours of driving, we arrived at Gangbala Pass. Standing at the pass, Yanghu is like a blue ribbon, lying quietly between the mountains. The sun shines on the lake, sparkling, refreshing. The coastline is tortuous and changeable, and every turn may encounter different scenery🌄 Don't forget to bring your wide-angle lens, so that you can include the magnificence of Yanghu.
Travel Tips:
• Clothing: 🧥🌤 Tibet has a large temperature difference, remember to bring thick clothes, sunscreen during the day, and warm at night.

"Turquoise Earrings Scattered by the Goddess" - Yamdrok Lake
Lhasa, Tibet - Shannan - Lhasa

The weather in Gongga is cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 7-24 degrees. The highest altitude today is 4,999 meters. National Highway 318-G4218 Yaye Expressway-National Highway 349.
A few days ago, we met some Shanghai tourists in the scenic area who came from National Highway 318. Their itinerary was exactly the opposite of ours. When we asked them about the "situation ahead", they were discouraged and told us that it was "blocked in all directions", and advised us not to take this road.
After many inquiries, it was indeed a large-scale segmented expansion and construction on the G318 Zogang-Bomi section in eastern Tibet. Generally, half of the road is alternately open during the day. When asphalt is poured, it will be closed in both directions for two hours, and there will be a lot of backlog and congestion as a main road.
G318 is the second half of our trip, and the main natural landscape is also on the southern line, so it is difficult for us to give up. After repeated discussions, we decided to continue to implement the original plan, highlight the key points in the daily arrangements, leave room for maneuver, and be prepared to overcome difficulties and deal with delays.
Today we came to visit Yamdrok Lake, about 100 kilometers from Lhasa. The second half of National Highway 349 is all uphill mountain roads.
We came here nine years ago. At that time, the thick fog was filled, and the sheep lake was half-covered. Before the fog dissipated, the tour guide urged us to get on the bus. Today we came to this mysterious place again, and finally got what we wanted (Figure 1).
Yamdrok Lake (3A), Tibetan means "Jade Lake", located in Gongga and Langkazi counties in Shannan City, with a lake surface altitude of 4,441 meters, a lake water area of 638 square kilometers, and Namtso and Mapangyong Lake are known as the three major sacred lakes in Tibet.
There are many viewing platforms around Yanghu. We chose two places to watch the lake, one high and one low.
The first viewing platform of Yanghu at Gangbala Pass at an altitude of 4,999 meters (Figure 2, official charge), overlooking Yanghu from a high altitude, the clouds seem to be within reach (Figure 3). The drone rises to the limit of 500 meters, and has a wider view of Yanghu (Figures 4-5). Under the sunlight, Yanghu quietly lies in the embrace of the mountains, exuding attractive Tiffany blue (Figure 6).
Zagang Village (free) by the lake, a short dirt road goes in and the car reaches the lake. The color of the lake water is average when viewed up close, and it is appreciated again after flying up to a height of 100 meters (Figure 7).
After the tour of Yanghu, return the same way. There are several rest viewing points next to the mountain road, such as on the platform at an altitude of 4,280 meters (Figure 8), overlooking the Yarlung Zangbo River Valley (Figure 9), which is both a rest and a view.
Stay in Motuo Gongka (altitude 3810 meters) tonight, and go to Nyingchi tomorrow.

On the vast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, there is a sacred and mysterious land, which is Yamdrok Lake located in southern Tibet. Whether it is snow-capped mountains, glaciers, flowers, or lakes, you can find its presence in this beautiful picture. The blue sky, the changing scenery of the four seasons, and the lovely animals make people feel like they are in a colorful dream.
Entering the world of Yamdrok Lake, the first thing that catches your eye is the first lake—Yamdrok Lake. This is a freshwater lake at an altitude of 4500 meters. The viewing platform offers a panoramic view of the entire lake. The hills around the lake are continuous, the distant snow-capped mountains are staggered, and the peaks reflected on the lake's surface layer by layer are like a fairyland. Amidst the swaying grass and tree shadows by the lake, you can also see Tibetan antelopes and big-horned sheep resting and foraging on the grassland.
In addition to Yamdrok Lake, the islands and beautiful estuaries are also worth visiting. If you want to see the appearance of pilgrims, go to the sacred lake Manasarovar area. Walking on the shore, you can clearly see the reeds and aquatic plants below, as if you are floating in the water, making your mind calm and peaceful. If you are lucky, you may also see wild horses, deer, and wolves running and playing on the grassland.
Speaking of which, the sunrise and sunset in Tibet are also unmissable beauties. Before and after sunrise at Yamdrok Lake, the color of the sky gradually changes from light black to deep blue, purple, pink, and finally orange. The sunset pushes this journey to a climax, like a fiery red pirate treasure slowly sinking into the darkness.
The beauty of Yamdrok Lake is astonishing not only because of the natural scenery but also because of the culture and beliefs of this land. Here, we can not only see the ancient culture and unique beliefs of Tibet but also experience the lifestyle and customs of the local residents. Whether among the pilgrims or in small shops, we can deeply feel the simplicity and purity of the Tibetan people's hearts.
A trip leaves behind insights into time and the heart. The journey to Yamdrok Lake has benefited me greatly. Facing this wonderful and pleasant natural scenery, I think of the troubles on the road of life, which seem so small at this moment. Yamdrok Lake is one of the most beautiful places in the world, a beautiful gift from nature. Here, let us feel the power of life together.

Tibet Travel Part 20 - Yamdrok Yumtso
Shannan Gongga Yamdrok Yumtso, the jade lake is enchanting with its vast waves.
The mountains and rivers are beautiful, and the sea birds dance gracefully.
Yamdrok Lake, fully known as Yamdrok Yumtso, means 'Jade Lake' in Tibetan, with an altitude of 4441 meters. It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, located in Gongga County and Langkazi County of Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region. It is the largest closed inland lake in the southern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is as famous as Namtso and Mapam Yumtso.
Hearing that you are far away, I set off and traveled thousands of miles. Walking into the Yamdrok Yumtso, known as the sapphire, I realized that there is a fairyland in the sky and a beautiful story of Yamdrok Lake on earth. The lake surface is as clear as jade, shining with blue waves, making people feel delighted, fascinated, and intoxicated.
Precautions:
1. Maintain a good mindset when entering high-altitude areas.
2. Avoid strenuous activities and heavy physical labor.
3. Eat more foods containing glucose.
4. Drink plenty of warm water, avoid overeating, and do not drink alcohol.

📸【Starry Sky Photography Tips】
1⃣️Time: The best months for shooting in the Northern Hemisphere are generally from April to September. Avoid shooting around the 15th of the lunar month.
2⃣️Composition: Remember to include some foreground to avoid monotony. The foreground can be a characteristic tent, mountain peak, vehicle, person, etc.
3⃣️Photography Equipment: It's best to use a full-frame camera, but APS-C cameras and smartphones can also work. The larger the aperture, the better. Set ISO between 1600-3200 and shutter speed around 15-25 seconds.

🌟【Yamdrok Lake Stargazing Tips】
1) The temperature drops at night, so be sure to keep warm and bring a thick coat.
2) You can bring some props to make shooting easier: flashlight, lantern, fairy lights, etc.
3) It is recommended to stay at the starry sky campsite in Yamdrok Lake⛺️, which is more convenient and comfortable, allowing you to "sleep with the stars and mountains as your companions."
