The most beautiful travel destinations to set off in January
Picture 1-2 Sailimu Lake
In January, Sailimu Lake is more tranquil without the hustle and bustle of the peak tourist season. The movement of ice blocks makes the ice bubbles rise and fall.
It is known as the last tear of the Atlantic, with very clear water. When the lake is completely frozen, it will stage a blue ice scene that is no less than Lake Baikal.
Picture 3-4 Changbai Mountain
In January, Changbai Mountain seems to be in a fairy tale world, covered in silver and beautiful. You can enjoy the excitement and fun brought by snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding; you can also appreciate the magical rime landscape and feel the magic and grandeur of nature.
Picture 5-6 Yunnan · Yuanyang Terraces
Every year in December, the water is filled, and by January of the following year, it is the most beautiful time. Climbing to the top of the terraces, you can see the changing sea of clouds, the half-mountain villages that are looming, and the majestic view of the terraces. The scenery will change with the ethereal light and fog at any time, forming a beautiful landscape of mountains and fields.

Yuanyang: a photographer’s dream...providing the weather cooperates! From November to early spring, the incredible rice terraces are flooded with water in preparation of the next harvest. Crafted by hand by the Hani people in Yunnan, these rice terraces are an amazing feat of hard work, and are now recognised as a UNESCO heritage site.

Yuanyang is a photographer’s dream...providing the weather cooperates! From November to early spring, the incredible rice terraces here are flooded with water in preparation for the next harvest. It took around 3-4 hours driving from Kunming to reach these gorgeous rice terraces, but it was definitely worth it if you have the time to spare.
Top tip: If travelling as a group, I would recommend hiring a private driver to take you there and back in order to save as much time and energy as possible! The sightseeing platforms for the rice terraces are quite far apart, and there are some gorgeous villages you can visit in the area too, and navigating public buses and time schedules to hit all of the locations you’ll want might be a bit of a pain...

its very easy to access and you still can enjoy the feeling of being with Hani people. They are still working on their rice fields and living their normal life. Even though can be overcrowded at the view points. we avoid all that crowded place and take a walk on trails along the rice field. It makes so much sense, less people and able to enjoy the whole view on our own.

A healing place that 99% of people don't know about!
🥳 If time permits, please reserve a day for Yuanyang Hani Terrace! You can see the sea of clouds in the morning and the sunset in the evening.🌄
🏘 Hani Town is very close to the visitor center. The parking lot in the town is free and available for RV camping. There are public restrooms🚻 and water, which is of good quality. There are also charging piles, and the air is fresh.👍
🚐 You can see the terrace and sunrise from the car window. The terrace is colorful during the day.
💕 I personally think that photos can't capture its beauty. When you stand there and look into the distance, the houses at the foot of the mountain are scattered, like a rich and heavy oil painting. The terrace in the distance is distinct, like a light and peaceful landscape painting. Every view is like a painting.🎨
⚠ A reminder: don't go too far to the edge of the viewing platform, as some wood has rotted and is dangerous.
🌈 Hani Terrace Culture Museum🌈
The Hani Terrace Culture Museum in Hani Town is worth a visit. ✅ Free admission, ✅ no reservation required, ✅ no ID verification required, ✅ one-way browsing, ✅ no return!
👍 The exhibition in the museum is very good! The interactive devices are also fun! You must take your kids there! Here you can learn about the past and present of the Hani people and Hani Terrace, as well as legendary stories.
⚠ Note: Closed on Mondays
🍲 The dining and accommodation environment in Hani Town is good. There are many hotels and homestays to choose from, and the owners are nice. Some hotels even have a view of the sunrise and sunset from the balcony.
🍜 The local specialties include Hani Fire Pit - chicken soup hot pot, local stir-fried wild vegetables, stir-fried bacon with wild vegetables, braised carp from the paddy field, stir-fried eggs with wild vegetables, etc. Don't miss the red rice from the terrace, which is really delicious.😋
🌾 The best time to visit the terrace is from December to March. The terrace reflects the blue sky during the irrigation period, which is very beautiful. However, the weather in the mountains is changeable. If you want to see the sunrise and sunset, it is recommended to stay for 3-4 days.

World Cultural Heritage - Yunnan Hani Terraces!!
World Cultural Heritage - Hani Terraces!!
The terraces are impressive for their unique form and structure.
The terraces are built according to the mountain, layer upon layer, forming a strong sense of three-dimensionality. Each layer of terraces seems to be the steps of the earth, extending to the sky, making people feel the magic of nature.
The terraces are like the fingerprints of the earth, shining with charming light under the sun.
The terraces also carry profound cultural connotations. They are the crystallization of farming civilization and the symbol of harmony between man and nature. While enjoying the beautiful scenery of the terraces, tourists can deeply experience the charm of farming culture and the philosophy of harmony between man and nature.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces. It's like God knocked over his palette!
It takes about an hour and a half to drive from Jianshui to Yuanyang. The road is surrounded by a green ocean and mist. Following the winding mountain road, you will arrive at the Duoyishu Scenic Area, our destination, the Duoyishu Mid-mountain Resort.
The masterpiece left by the Hani people for more than 1,300 years. Passing through the tunnel full of terraced scenery, passing through the Honghe Avenue, patiently winding up the mountain road, always winding up, until you see the lively Qingkou Village, to the Badajing Scenic Area, the terraces are in front of you. The red part is naturally formed red duckweed. The destination is Duoyishu Mid-mountain Resort. This hotel is very well located. The door of the room is the viewing platform. In order to watch the sunrise of Duoyishu, I chose a viewing room with a balcony. If you have aerial photography, you must bring it. Looking at the details from the room, you will see the beauty of another dimension. Dinner is chosen at the nearby Shan Ye Shan Shi to eat Huotang. A pot of Tanghuo chicken and grilled pork belly, terraced fried fish, terraced red rice, the chicken soup is very delicious. I prepared milk and snacks in the room. I think this hotel is generally cost-effective. Until I saw the sunrise the next morning.

The 7 Best Golden Fields to See in September-October, Really Beautiful
Dali Xizhou, Yunnan
At the foot of Cangshan Mountain, the fields around Xizhou gradually turn from green to yellow, forming picturesque scenes with the distant mountains. Against the backdrop of the simple and elegant Bai architecture, it looks even more free and leisurely. The rice fields turn yellow in September and are gradually harvested from late September to late October.
Yuanyang Hani Terraces, Yunnan
For over 1300 years, the Hani people have used their wisdom to paint this magnificent pastoral landscape. Between the high mountains and deep valleys not far from the old county town at the mountain top, there are several major terrace landscapes such as Laohuzui, Bada, Duoyishu, and Aichunlan.
The Laohuzui terraces have a huge drop, like a sculpture of the earth seen from the sky, often accompanied by a sea of clouds. The Duoyishu terraces are the most spectacular, piecing together a patterned painting between the fields. On the mountain, there are traditional villages like Azheke that retain the original mushroom houses. Spending three to five days in Yuanyang is really stress-relieving.
Jiabang Terraces, Congjiang, Guizhou
The Jiabang terraces turn yellow earlier, with the best viewing period from early September to mid-late September. The Dongpeng terraces allow you to experience the fragrance of rice up close, and the sunrise is also fantastic. The Dangga terraces have the most levels in Jiabang, layering down to the bottom of the valley. The Sanhu Renjia terraces are famous for the farmhouses in the terraces, with only three households nestled among the terraces, like a paradise.
Southern Anhui
In the autumn of Jiangnan, it must be the ancient villages of Huizhou. Even without entering the scenic spots, there is endless rural autumn scenery to see. In the golden rice fields, a few trees with red leaves occasionally dot the landscape. At the end of the fields are the white walls, gray tiles, and horse-head walls of Huizhou architecture. The rice fields stretch from Hongcun Qishu Lake to Tachuan, and the harvest time is relatively late, starting around mid-November.
Yunhe Terraces, Lishui, Zhejiang
The Yunhe terraces are one of the earliest developed terrace scenic spots in China, with a long viewing period for the rice fields, lasting until early November. Walking along the mountain trails, bamboo seas, streams, and waterfalls are all along the way. The Nine Curves Yunhuan viewing platform offers a circular view of the terraces, where you can see the stunning sea of clouds and sunrise. The Qixingdun faces the terraces, enjoying the feeling of being in the clouds. The Kenggen Shizhai retains the complete appearance of ancient residential buildings, full of life.
Wuyuan, Jiangxi
In the golden autumn of September, the rice fields at the foot of Huangling Mountain in Wuyuan mature one after another, with golden rice ears stretching as far as the eye can see. The healing sightseeing train travels through the vast golden rice fields in Yantian. From Zheyuan Fengshan Village (Longtian Tower) all the way to Shibao Village and Hongguan Village, there are rice fields everywhere. The autumn drying and red maple leaves will be in November, but the best field scenery is in September.
Longji Terraces, Guilin, Guangxi
If you set off in September, you can see the "green + yellow" two-color terraces at once, and in October, they are all golden. The distant mountains are faint and unchanging, the terraces are layered, and the rice with ears is perfect for photography. Climb to the high viewing platform to overlook "Nine Dragons and Five Tigers" and "Seven Stars Accompanying the Moon". Stay in a viewing homestay, and you can see thousands of acres of terraces, sunrises, sunsets, starry skies, and seas of clouds right outside your window.

Travel Guide
👀 The four main scenic spots of the Yuanyang Terraces are: Duoyishu for sunrise, Bada for sunset and sea of clouds, Laohuzui also for sunset, and Qingkou for the fairyland in the clouds. The beauty of these terraces lies in the changing scenery at different times. For example, you can sit in the same place for an entire afternoon, watching the mist drift among the terraces, with the colors of the terraces changing accordingly. This dynamic beauty is the most captivating.
👀 At Bada, you can enjoy the sea of clouds and sunset at any time. Usually, the sunset is around 6:30 PM, and the color changes of the terraces are particularly rich at this time.
👀 At Laohuzui, you can only see the sunset in the evening, which ends around 6:30 PM. If you have time, you can visit Qingkou and Bada during the day to see the sea of clouds, and if possible, arrange to see the sunset at Laohuzui again.
🔥 The Yuanyang Hani Terraces are like a meticulously crafted artwork by nature. Each layer of the terraces is like a silent poem, quietly telling the story of time. Standing at a high point and looking far away, the layers of terraces resemble green waves, extending from the foot of the mountain to the top, breathtakingly beautiful. Under the sunlight, the terraces reflect golden light, as if the whole world is bathed in a warm hue.

Yuanyang Terraces - A place to visit many times and countless times
🌟Highlights:
Yuanyang Hani Terraces, with its unique beauty in all four seasons, is a masterpiece left by generations of Hani people. Utilizing the special geographical climate, they created the agricultural wonder of terraced fields. It was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2013!
According to the ancient Hani legend of 'Heaven. Earth. Man', a giant fish created the universe and the first pair of humans, a man named Zhita and a woman named Tapo. Tapo gave birth to 22 children, the third of whom was a dragon. When the dragon grew up, it became the Dragon King of the sea. To show gratitude for Tapo's nurturing, it offered three bamboo tubes of gifts, one of which contained rice seeds. This means that the Hani people believe rice has existed since the creation of the world 🌾
The Hani people are among the earliest to domesticate wild rice. Rice cultivation is an ancient production activity of the Hani people. For thousands of years, they have domesticated wild rice in the Ailao Mountain region's Sanjiang River Basin into upland rice and then improved it into paddy rice. This unique ecological environment made the Sanjiang River Basin one of the early regions for human rice cultivation.
🚉Transportation Guide:
The terraces are located deep in the mountains at an altitude of 300-2000 meters, making transportation inconvenient. It is recommended to drive yourself. You can take the Yuan-Green secondary road or National Highway 245. The Yuan-Green secondary road is easier to drive, but for those who want to experience mountain roads, the national highway is a must. Although it has many bends and steep slopes, the scenery is superb👌🏻
🎫Ticket Information:
Main terrace scenic areas: 70 yuan, including Bada Scenic Area (sunset), Duoyishu Scenic Area (sunrise), Laohuzui Scenic Area, and Qingkou Folk Village; Azheke (30 yuan)
📝Tips:
❶ The terraces are beautiful all year round. In May-June, rice planting takes place, summer brings lush green waves of rice, October sees a golden harvest, and in winter, the water-filled terraces glisten with a silvery light. Officially, winter is also considered the most beautiful season for the terraces.
❷ At sunrise, the beautiful contours of the terraces are faintly visible in the dawn light. From a high vantage point, they resemble an elegant ink painting. As the sun rises from the east, the faintly visible working people around the terraces seem to step into a childhood dream.
❸ When I visited in May, we drove up the mountain in a torrential night rain, only to find many inns closed. After inquiring, we learned it was the off-season, and many innkeepers at the highest points were not locals. So, remember to call ahead☎️ to check.
❹ For accommodation, I recommend staying near the Duoyishu Scenic Area. The sunrise over the terraces is truly dreamy. For meals, be sure to try the red rice🍚, with its light pink hue, it is both beautiful and delicious

Yuanyang Rice Terraces
The Yuanyang Rice Terraces in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan, are famous far and wide. We left the ancient town of Bixi and traveled along the Kunming-Mohan Expressway, the Yuanmou Expressway, the Yuanlu Secondary Road, and National Highway G245 to reach the scenic area, covering a distance of about 188 kilometers.
Broadly speaking, the Yuanyang Rice Terraces scenic area encompasses a vast region of approximately 159 square kilometers, including Xinjie Town and Panzhihua Township. Narrowly speaking, it refers to several prime viewing spots that require ticket purchase for entry. Upon entering the scenic area, the terraces come into view, and the deeper you go, the more enchanting the scenery becomes. In the past, when admiring the beautiful photographic works of the Yuanyang Rice Terraces, one appreciated the art. But when seeing the endless, layered terraces with one's own eyes, words fail to describe the beauty. Beyond the aesthetic enjoyment, one feels a sense of awe, a visual impact brought by the miraculous creation of nature and the hardworking wisdom of generations of Hani people who have adapted to the natural environment. This evokes thoughts on the stable ecosystem of mountains, water, fields, and villages formed through over 1,300 years of cultivation. After the autumn harvest and land preparation, the terraces begin to slowly accumulate spring water, with each paddy field reflecting the sky like a mirror, arranged in an orderly manner. The scenic roads within the area connect multiple villages and several viewing platforms, with good road conditions, making it very suitable for self-driving tours. Along the way, there are many places where you can enjoy the beauty of the terraces for free. However, to see and photograph the best scenes before and after sunrise, you need to buy a ticket to enter the Duoyishu scenic area. To get the best view under the sunset, you need to enter the Bada scenic area. Fortunately, the tickets are valid for three days and allow unlimited entry to each scenic area.
Eternal sweet springs nourish fertile soil,
Centuries of cultivation shape life.
Jade mirrors from the heavens fall,
Scattered across Yuanyang's hundred-mile slopes.
In addition to enjoying the natural beauty within the Yuanyang Rice Terraces scenic area, you may also witness the cultural customs of the Hani and Yi ethnic groups. Hani or Yi weddings are sometimes celebrated within the scenic area, with several couples and their bridesmaids and groomsmen gathering in the plaza, dancing gracefully to cheerful music in their colorful attire, attracting tourists to watch and take photos. Among the many visitors, there are photography enthusiasts, some traveling in groups, others alone. Some stay in the scenic area for over a week to capture a perfect shot. We took a moderate approach, seeing it with our own eyes and taking photos, which was enough.

In Yuanyang, visit the Hani people's cloud terraces
Throughout the year, the terraces have their own beauty. The Hani people are accustomed to planting rice seedlings in June every year, so in the summer, Yuanyang is filled with lush green rice waves. In August, we walked into Yuanyang, into the greenery and tranquility of Yuanyang, into the colorful and magnificent Yuanyang. In this little-known secret place in southeastern Yunnan, let's explore the cloud terraces created by the Hani people's exquisite techniques.
6:30-7:30 Sunrise
Qingkou Viewing Platform (Picture 2, Picture 3): Free, right at the entrance of the scenic area, you can go deep into the terrace ridges to take photos.
Duoyishu Viewing Platform (Picture 7): A package ticket costs 70 yuan per person, which also includes Bada and Laohuzui. This is the best viewing point for the sunrise. Unfortunately, it was very foggy the day we went, so we couldn't see the sunrise, but we saw the sea of clouds, which was still worth the trip.
18:30-19:30 Sunset
Bada Viewing Platform (Picture 5, Picture 6): You can see the magnificent scene of the sunset combined with the thousand-level terraces. The beauty of Bada is grand and magnificent.
Dawazhe: It is also said to be a great sunset viewing point. You can choose either Bada or Dawazhe.
9:00-10:30
Aichun Blue Terraces: During the abundant water period of the terraces, the morning sunlight reflects a deep and shallow blue, blending with the blue of the sky.
Other times
Azheke (Picture 8~Picture 15): 30 yuan per person, an ancient Hani village that combines Hani ethnic characteristics and terrace landscapes. While viewing the scenery, you can also experience the cultural atmosphere. The number of photos also shows my love for Azheke, highly recommended!
Laohuzui: Similar to the terraces of Bada, we went because we bought a package ticket. However, the viewing platform of Laohuzui is at the foot of the mountain, a distance from the parking place, and it is tiring to go up and down the mountain.
Laoyingzui: During the abundant water period, it presents a colorful scene, so it is also called the colorful terraces.
Accommodation: Yuanyang Hawowo Hotel, cost-effective, you can lie in bed and see the terraces.
Food: The Honghua Small Restaurant near the hotel is pretty good, with unique Hani farmhouse dishes. Be sure to try the local specialty Hani dipping chicken. The biggest selling point is their unique dipping sauce made from more than 20 kinds of ingredients, including chicken offal, eggs, prickly mint, fragrant lemon, mustard greens, and coriander. It can be used as a dipping sauce or as a standalone dish.

The Most Beautiful Ancient Village - Hani Ancient Village with Cloud-top Terraces
Mulaya is located at an altitude of 1750 meters on the cloud-top, in Hani Town, Yuanyang County, Honghe Prefecture, overlooking like a pearl on the Hani terraces. The Hani terraces where Mulaya is situated were successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2013. Adjacent to the Hani Ancient Village, which was once rated as 'One of the Six Most Beautiful Ancient Towns and Villages in China,' it is the most completely preserved ancient village to date.
Each room competes with the beautiful scenery, with walls and countertops made of clear water concrete, solid wood furniture, and large floor-to-ceiling windows facing the beauty of the terraces, offering a wonderful experience of bathing while enjoying the view. The green bricks with painted tiles, the white horse treading on the fresh mud, the original residence Mulaya is just right above the terraces. Just take a walk along the stone-paved roads in the village, and within a few short hours, you can experience the essence of Hani terrace culture.
The café with floor-to-ceiling windows is a perfect place to relax, where guests can rest and read, enjoying the comfort of a slow life. The wines stored on the wooden racks seem like the leisure time you discarded in the noise of those years. The design of the restaurant also showcases its transparency, constantly accompanied by beautiful scenery, ensuring that every view is picturesque.

Explore the Yuanyang Rice Terraces in the off-season for a unique beauty!
🌄Hello everyone! 👋 Today I bring you a guide to off-season travel in the Yuanyang Rice Terraces. 📚The Yuanyang Rice Terraces, a masterpiece cultivated by the Hani people for over 1300 years, are charming in every season. 🌈
🌅First, we arrive at the Duoyishu Rice Terraces. This is the most central area of the Yuanyang Rice Terraces scenic spot, with a narrow and multi-tiered viewing platform that allows everyone to appreciate the beauty of the terraces from different angles. 📸Moreover, the sunrise time in April is around 6:30. Although you may not see the terraces glistening with golden light, it also reduces the chance of viewing failure due to heavy fog in early spring. 🌥️
🏞️Next, we come to the Aichunlan Rice Terraces. Here, due to the angle of the morning sun and the mountains, the water surface reflects the sky, creating a vast expanse of blue terraces. The best time for photography is from 8-10 am, but be aware that as the months go by, the best viewing time moves earlier, and by the end of April, it is around 8 am. 🌅
🌁Then, we arrive at Azheke. This place has well-preserved the traditional mushroom houses and village style of the Hani people. Although an additional ticket of 35 yuan per person is required to enter the village, the viewing platform down in the canyon offers a view of colorful terraces spread across two large mountains, which is spectacular from an aerial perspective. 🚁
🌇Finally, we come to Bada. Here, it is suitable to watch the sunset over the terraces from viewing platforms 2 and 3, with the sunset time in April being around 19:00. 🌅
🍽️After the tour, I recommend everyone to go to 'Shan Ye Shan Shi' to taste the Hani ethnic group's special fire pit barbecue and roasted tea, putting a perfect end to this trip. 🍜

How many days should you stay and what can you do in Yuanyang Rice Terraces? Let me explain clearly
In the remote southwest of China, in the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, lies a breathtaking natural wonder—the Yuanyang Rice Terraces. This is not just a landscape; it is a flowing pastoral painting, a testament to the wisdom of the Hani people and their harmonious coexistence with nature over generations. On this land, listed as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO, every shutter click is a deep tribute to the beauty of the earth.
Attraction Introduction: A Scroll of Ink Painting on the Horizon
The Yuanyang Rice Terraces are famous for their clear layers, smooth lines, and vibrant colors. With the change of seasons, the terraces present different vistas: in spring, the fields are full of water, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds like mirrors; in summer, the green rice grows vigorously; in autumn, the fields turn golden with the joy of harvest; and in winter, the terraces are shrouded in mist, resembling a fairyland. Among them, the four major viewing platforms—Duoyishu, Tiger Mouth, Qingkou, and Bada—are the best spots to watch the sunrise and sunset over the terraces, each moment worth lingering over.
Itinerary: A Journey into the Light and Shadow of the Terraces

• Chicken Tofu: A unique traditional Hani dish with a delicate texture and delicious taste.
Transportation Tips:
• External Transportation: Kunming is the most convenient transit point to Yuanyang, with options of long-distance buses or car rentals. Kunming Changshui International Airport offers flights to major cities within China.
• Internal Transportation: In Yuanyang, it is recommended to rent a car or use local charter services, as the viewing platforms are far apart and the mountain roads are winding, making self-driving more flexible and convenient.
Every journey to the Yuanyang Rice Terraces is a profound dialogue with nature and culture. Here, every inch of land tells a story, and every ray of light whispers of time. Prepare your camera and soul, and let us find that original shock and emotion on this ancient and magical land together!

Fall into God's palette! You must go see the Yuanyang Rice Terraces
The beauty of the terraces' layers and curves is so impressive because of their unique shape and structure.
The terraces are built along the mountain contours, layer upon layer, creating a strong sense of three-dimensionality. Each level of the terrace seems like a staircase of the earth, extending all the way to the horizon, making one feel the natural wonder of creation.
The layered terraces are like the fingerprints of the earth, shimmering with enchanting light under the sun.
🚉 Travel Tips:
The terraces are on the mountains of Yuanyang County. After reaching Yuanyang County by expressway, you need to take a winding mountain road from an altitude of 1000km to 1700km. The road up the mountain can be divided into two sections, the first is from the expressway to the entrance of the scenic area, which is a national highway with two lanes and is relatively easy to travel. The second section is from the entrance of the scenic area to the viewing platform, which is a genuine mountain road.

The best time to visit the Yuanyang Rice Terraces has arrived
The period from November to April of the following year is the 'water-filling season' of the Yuanyang Rice Terraces, which is also the best travel season for the Yuanyang Rice Terraces. The time around the Spring Festival is the best.
In autumn, the Yuanyang Rice Terraces are like countless shattered mirrors scattered across the land, reflecting the colorful sky, capturing every moment of sunrise and sunset, the rolling and shifting clouds.
Main Attractions
The main attractions of the Yuanyang Rice Terraces are four: Duoyishu for sunrise, Bada for sunset and cloud sea, Laohuzui for sunset, and Qingkou for the fairyland in the clouds.
The most beautiful aspect of the terraces is the different colors seen at different times of the day at the same location, so staying in one place for an afternoon, you will witness the change of colors in the sea of mist and the terraces, which is the most beautiful.
🏞️ Bada for cloud sea sunset: Go from Duoyishu to Bada to see the cloud sea sunset. Sunset: Generally, the sunset is around 06:30 in the afternoon, during which time the color changes of the terraces are the most. Additionally, you can go to Bada to see the cloud sea at any time.
🌅 Laohuzui for sunset: Laohuzui is only for watching the sunset, which ends after six-thirty.
During the day, it is generally best to go to Qingkou and Bada to see the cloud sea. If you can watch a sunset, then go to Laohuzui.
☀️☀️☀️
To fully appreciate the beauty of the water reflections and clouds at the Yuanyang Rice Terraces, one must visit on a sunny day with clouds, so be sure to check the local weather conditions before setting out. The main scenic areas here are Bada Scenic Area, Laohuzui Scenic Area, Duoyishu Scenic Area, and Qingkou Scenic Area, with the most important sights being the magnificent sunrise and sunset over the terraces and the unique charm of the Hani ethnic villages.

Yuanyang Accommodation Guide
Every year from November to April of the following year is the irrigation period for the Yuanyang terraces, and Yuanyang is truly a fairyland during this time. Where is a good place to stay when coming to Yuanyang to admire the terraces?
Accommodation choices:
1. Hani Town, where there are hotels of all grades, from high to low, with relatively complete facilities and convenient living. However, it is some distance from the viewing platforms. It takes 15 minutes by car to reach the Bada sunset viewing spot and 30 minutes to the Duoyishu sunrise viewing platform.
2. Duoyishu
I especially recommend staying in Duoyishu, because it is an excellent location for watching the sunrise. The accommodations here are mainly high-end scenic inns, especially the row of scenic room inns at the foot of Huangcaoling Village, which offer absolutely stunning views of the sunrise. The only downside here is the price; the cheaper places are all along the road in Duoyishu Village, and it takes more than ten minutes of walking on mountain roads to reach the viewing platform.
We stayed in a scenic room guesthouse in Huangcaoling Village, Duoyishu, when we went to Yuanyang. Since the guesthouse is some distance from the road, the staff specially arranged for someone to help us carry our luggage to the accommodation. The view of the terraces from the guesthouse is particularly good, with fixed phone holders on the balcony and rooftop platform for guests to take photos. In addition, the guesthouse also has a private viewing platform open to guests.

Weekend Self-Drive Two-Day Tour Guide to Yuanyang Rice Terraces
The Hani Rice Terraces are a spectacle of terraces created over 1300 years by the Hani people and other ethnic groups, utilizing special geographical conditions, and the Yuanyang Rice Terraces are the core scenic area of the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces.
The most "practical" guide
🌾 Yuanyang Rice Terraces 'contract' the high mountains and deep valleys of the Ailao Mountains, and it is recommended to visit for 2-3 days, with self-driving being the most convenient.
🌾 The best viewing area for the terraces is from November to April of the following year, because of the water season; starting from April, the transplanting period is not as picturesque.
🌾 The terraces are most beautiful at sunrise and sunset, and during the day, most of the terraces are not very attractive.
🌾 There are three areas in the Yuanyang Rice Terraces scenic area: Bada, Tiger Mouth, and Duoyishu, but there are four areas in terms of distance:
Jingkou Hani Town is very close to the entrance of the scenic area, the terraces are not large, but you can watch the sunrise, and the colors are rich during the day. The Hani town has a better environment for food and lodging.
Bada scenic area is large, and the sunset is more beautiful, but it is difficult to appreciate during the day. There is a coffee shop on the No. 2 viewing platform, which opens after 12 o'clock.
Tiger Mouth scenic area has two viewing platforms, upper and lower, with beautiful scenery at the bottom, but it is very tiring to go up and down. You can spend 10 yuan to enter the local people's terraces, which are not crowded and have a good position. There is a coffee shop halfway up the mountain, which opens in the afternoon.
Duoyishu scenic area has the most beautiful sunrise and also beautiful colors during the day, a must-visit!! The scenic area also includes Aichun, Dawazhe, and other roadside more primitive terraces, which are generally ordinary. Dawazhe is also a place to watch the sunset, with an open space beside the mountain road, no fences, and a lot of garbage.
🌾 The most worthwhile village to visit in the scenic area is the ancient Hani village of Azheke, which requires an additional ticket, 30 yuan/adult.
🌾 The best hotel to watch the sunrise is the Duoyishu Mid-Mountain Resort Hotel, which is located on the viewing platform and has its own viewing platform, but it is pricey and hard to book. Alternatively, you can choose the same owner's Yunshang Mid-Mountain Resort Hotel, located at the entrance of the scenic area, and for an additional 20 yuan, you can go to Duoyishu Mid-Mountain for breakfast. Both hotels offer free tickets to the rice terraces scenic area.
Tickets: 70 yuan/adult (multiple entries to various terraces scenic areas within 72 hours)
🌾 Around 6:30 on weekends, Duoyishu is not yet congested, but the nearby mountain roads are narrow and there is always roadside parking, which may cause congestion.
🌾 The best spot in Duoyishu is a matter of opinion, but the place with three layers inside and three layers outside in the old mage should be the best. However, I personally think the hotel side has a good position.
🌾 The free parking lots in each scenic area are not large, and if you park on the villagers' land, you may be charged 10-20 yuan.
🌾 Fire pit chicken (the kind cooked around a stove), dipping chicken, roasted tofu, and various wild vegetables all taste pretty good.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces - For the colors of sunrise and sunset
People come to the Yuanyang Rice Terraces mostly to see the palette-like terraces.
From November to April of the following year is the irrigation season, where the mirror-like terraces and duckweed reflect the colors of the sky.
⭐There are 2 recommended routes for sightseeing:
1⃣️ Free route, according to the hostel owners and those who have been there, it's just as good as the paid spots
☘️Sunrise - Hostels near the Duoyishu scenic area, choose one with a good view and a viewing platform. Even if you can't see the sunrise, you can still see the sea of clouds.
☘️Aichun Blue Terraces: Best around 9-10 am, the light shouldn't be too strong, otherwise, the blue terrace effect won't be there. It's right by the road, no viewing platform, you can give 5 yuan to the villagers by the fields to go up to their rooftop to take photos.
☘️ Azheke ancient village (charges a fee): After taking photos of the blue terraces, you can go here. Even if the weather is foggy, go down to the valley's viewing platform at the bottom, the weather might clear up as you walk down.
☘️Eagle's Beak: Best around 2-3 pm for taking photos of the colorful terraces, this is personally my favorite viewpoint.
☘️Sunset - Dawazhe: It's recommended to go early, especially if you're bringing a tripod.
2⃣️Paid route: A 70 yuan ticket includes 3 spots: Bada, Duoyishu, and Tiger's Mouth.
☘️ Duoyishu viewing platform for sunrise
☘️Bada for sunset and sea of clouds
☘️Tiger's Mouth for sunset, the local Hani people say this used to be the most beautiful place to watch the sunset, but due to mudslides damaging the rice fields, the scenery is not as it once was.
🍀Besides these, there are several other viewing platforms that you can visit on the way there or back.
☘️Qingkou: For a fairyland in the clouds
☘️Quanfuzhuang viewing platform
☘️Malizhai Tea Factory viewing platform
🚗 Transportation: How to get to Yuanyang is already written in another travel planning note. In summary, whether you're coming from Mengzi, Mile, or Jianshui, it's best to hire a private car or carpool, unless you're willing to transfer buses more than three times.
㊙️It's important to confirm with the driver whether they will take you directly to the designated place and whether there will be a change of cars along the way. Most drivers there only drive a section, from Mile to Gejiu, Gejiu to Yuanyang Nansha, Nansha to Yuanyang Xinjie, Xinjie to Yuanyang Rice Terraces, so make sure to clarify and confirm that there will be no car change and that you will be taken all the way.
It's not recommended to hire a car from outside the area to tour the Yuanyang Rice Terraces. Drivers from outside are not familiar with the mountain roads and the locations of each scenic spot. It's better to hire a car locally for a day or half a day.
⭐Before entering Yuanyang, it's best to bring some food with you, as there are few restaurants and shops on the mountain, and even fewer choices.
The red rice produced in the Yuanyang Rice Terraces is a must-try, and the red rice noodles are a specialty.
🏙️Accommodation - There are three relatively good hotels in the Yuanyang Rice Terraces scenic area
🏨 Wanshan: Good environment, average scenery
🏨 Yuanshe Azheke: Inside Azheke, looks good, the only issue is it's far from the sunrise and sunset spots
🏨 Good hotels near Duoyishu: Mid-mountain resort, Above the Clouds, with excellent views.
▶️The red rice here is single-crop rice. The local Yi drivers say that this rice is hard to make a living from; it's time-consuming, labor-intensive, and not profitable, but they continue to cultivate it only to not waste the rice fields left by their ancestors. Hearing this, one feels a sense of reverence, this is the love of generations for this red land

Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces | This is how you should experience a self-driving tour!!!
There is a hardworking ethnic group in Honghe, Yunnan called the 'Hani people'. To expand their farmland, they have transformed entire mountains into terraced fields, attracting many visitors. It is said that
'One glance from you is 1300 years of the Hani people's efforts'
On the southern side of the Ailao Mountains in Yunnan, there are thousands of terraced fields. The gentle slopes are used for large fields, and the steep slopes for smaller ones. The Hani people have turned the mountains into fertile land with their wisdom and hard work over 1300 years, creating the magnificent scenery we see today!
In the morning, arrive at the Yuanyang Rice Terraces Tourist Center, where a ticket valid for three days can be purchased for the full price of 70. You can get a map at the tourist center to clearly understand the routes.
Along the way, there are many viewing platforms. 'Duoyishu' is for watching the sunrise, while 'Laohuzui' and 'Bada' are for watching the sunset. The other platforms are for admiring the endless terraced fields. I took a loop, starting from the tourist center, walking to 'Jingkou Village' to see the terraced fields and the very primitive village, which is dotted with many distinctive mushroom houses. Then I drove to the 'Laohuzui' viewing platform to view the terraced fields from a distance, and then to what I personally think is the very beautiful 'Azheke Village', which requires a separate ticket of 30. This village is definitely worth a visit, with terraced fields, canyons, and mushroom houses. The wind is strong, the village is very quiet, very healing, like another paradise. The small restaurants in the village also taste good, serving Hani red rice and their specialty dish is terraced field fish. For watching the sunset, I chose 'Bada', where the view is the most expansive, with three small viewing platforms, all very beautiful and stunning!
🗓 Itinerary:
Yuanyang Rice Terraces Tourist Center—Jingkou Village Terraces—Laohuzui—Azheke Village—Bada (Sunset) Viewing Platform
📝 Tips:
Laohuzui is also a good spot for watching the sunset. Remember to protect yourself from the wind and sun!

Is the masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation
The sunrise and sunset of Yuanyang terraces in winter are even more beautiful. It's our paradise for chasing light and shadow
The terrain of Ailao Mountain in Yunnan Province is steep, with high mountains and deep valleys. The altitude varies between 3000 meters and 600 meters, forming a three-dimensional climate of cold temperate zone, subtropical zone and tropical zone. The Hani people, one of the 56 ethnic groups in China, have carved out terraces and built villages in the mountains, where they live. The Hani villages in Yuanyang County, Honghe Prefecture, are surrounded by dense forests, full of strong primitive rural atmosphere. The surrounding area of the village has tens of thousands of acres of terraces, which are very spectacular. The landscape of 'terraces, villages, forests, water systems' and the sea of clouds and mushroom houses are known as 'the world's unique'. It embodies the commonality of Hani terrace culture -- that is, the four-dimensional co-construction of forests, villages, terraces and rivers, so it is also known as the Hani four-dimensional co-construction display area

Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces
The Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces are located in the Ailao Mountains of Yuanyang County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. On June 22, 2013, at the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, the cultural landscape of the Hani Rice Terraces was unanimously approved to be included in the 'World Heritage List'. The heritage area encompasses the representative and concentrated contiguous distribution of rice terraces and their dependent water source forests, irrigation systems, and ethnic villages. Within the territory of Yuanyang County, there are more than 170,000 mu of terraces, which are the landscape of mountains and fields carved out by the Hani people over more than 1,300 years. The Hani Rice Terraces scenic area features towering mountains with a V-shaped development, fragmented surface, and rugged and steep terrain. Where the slopes are gentle and the land is large, large fields are cultivated, and where the slopes are steep and the land is small, small fields are cultivated. Even the gaps between rocks on the edges of ditches are used for cultivation, resulting in terraces that range from several mu in size to as small as a dustpan, often with thousands of mu on a single slope. The Ailao Mountains have a variety of soil types, mainly strong-viscosity yellow and red soils, with fertile deep brown forest soils in between. The area has a high-temperature and rainy subtropical monsoon climate with a distinct vertical climate and frequent fog and rain. The main scenic areas of Yuanyang Rice Terraces include Bada scenic area (including Qingkou, Quanfuzhuang, Malizhai, Zhulu and other terraces), Laohuzui scenic area (including Mengpin, Dongpu, Amengkong, Baoshanzhai and other terraces), and Duoyishu scenic area (including Duoyishu, Aichun, Dawazhe and other contiguous terraces). Such numerous terraces, set against the vast forests and covered by the endless sea of clouds, form a magical and magnificent landscape.
⏳Visiting Time:
To enter the scenic area and view the platforms, a ticket must be purchased. The visiting time is half a day to 1 day.
