Located in the Yuehe Historic District of Yuehe Ancient Town in Jiaxing, it is one of the most complete and largest areas in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, which can best reflect the residential characteristics and cultural characteristics of Jiangnan Water Town.
It is located in the central business district of Huating Street and Jiahe Beijing City in Jiaxing City. It is surrounded by Huancheng North Road, Jianguo North Road, Hexing South Road and Tongle Road. Shanghai used to drive for more than an hour. Unlike the famous ancient towns, there is no so-called ancient town maintenance fee. The merchants in Guzhen are not as many as Xitang. Perhaps because of the cold weather, many shops are closed for business, but they are extraordinarily quiet and simple. Most of the houses here are left over from the Qing Dynasty, quite like the buildings near Huangshan Mountain in Anhui.
Alleys and small streets are winding and twisting, criss-crossing, small river narrowing, old dwellings, etc. to restore and show a strong water town style. In the scenic area, the attractions of the six major venues such as Jiangxi Guild Hall, Jinyuyuan, Dachang Dangpu, Jiahe Shuiyu, Gaogongsheng Sauce Garden and Caishentang are gathered. Yuehe Street District is a place to visit the old days of Jiangnan Fucheng, and taste the bustling tourist attractions of the century.

Jiaxing's Moon River Old Street, where you encounter a sleepless ancient town night
In the heart of Jiaxing, a hidden paradise on earth—Moon River Old Street—is tucked away. It stands as a witness to time, silently telling the ancient stories of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River.🏞️
Stepping into this area is like traveling through a tunnel of time, returning to an era of misty rain and tranquil years.🕰️ Moon River Old Street is not only the best-preserved and largest historical district in Jiaxing's urban area but also a microcosm of the culture of the water towns in the south.
The architecture here is mainly characterized by the elegant Huizhou style, with every brick and tile exuding a strong historical charm.🏛️ The small streets and alleys are winding and maze-like, inviting exploration; the narrow rivers shimmer, complementing the ancient buildings.🌊
Walking on the cobblestone-paved streets, the wooden buildings with their flying eaves and upturned corners, and the white walls and green tiles become even more quaint under the lights.🏘️ The shops in the old street are diverse, from tempting food stalls🍜 to stylish bars🍸, from the bird and flower market filled with chirps and fragrances🐦 to the antique and calligraphy shops brimming with stories🎨, every step brings a new discovery.
As night falls and the lights come on, Moon River Old Street becomes even more bustling, with a cacophony of voices as if the entire nightlife of Jiaxing converges here.🌃 Tourists come and go, tasting delicious food, stopping to watch, or taking photos to commemorate, with satisfaction and joy on everyone's faces.
If you also want to experience a different kind of ancient town trip, why not take a walk on Jiaxing's Moon River Old Street and feel the night atmosphere here.🌌

A one-time clear explanation of the most beautiful city walk route in the main urban area of Jiaxing!
A one-time clear explanation of the most beautiful city walk route in the main urban area of Jiaxing!|||
🔘 No detour route: Jiaxing South Station➡️Tram Line 1 (get off at Zhongshan East Road Jianguo South Road)➡️Catholic Church➡️Zicheng➡️Shaonian Road➡️Yuehe
☑️Catholic Church: Gothic architectural style⛪️. Best photo spots: the archway, the big lawn, and the stairs behind the church. The photos look really great when the weather is good, and there's a Shexi Street Shaomai place nearby to eat, but if there's a long queue, you don't need to go there specifically, as the taste is more or less the same anywhere.
☑️Zicheng: With over 1700 years of history, it's a witness to the historical changes of Jiaxing. Here you can appreciate ancient architectural relics like the old city walls, so don't miss out if you're a history buff!
☑️Shaonian Road: A new landmark in Jiaxing! Right where you get off the tram, there's also the May Day City Meetup Festival market now~with hundreds of people performing Kpop dances💃 and band performances🪗, trendy play market🛍️, and the Meetup Festival's beautiful installations are super photogenic📷. Nearby, there's also the popular Jiaxing Check-in Wall (Next stop: Shaonian Road) – when in Jiaxing, you must check in and take a vibrant photo! At the north end of Shaonian Road, there are wall paintings, glowing letters, Tongguan Tower, and container inflatable rabbits, which are also super photogenic!! For food, you can try the Ke Ying Lobster King🦞, which has been open for over twenty years.
☑️Yuehe: A Jiangnan water town, a mini-version of Xitang and Wuzhen, with water buses⛴️ running every 50 minutes (3r💰). There's also a flower and bird market inside (flowers are very cheap), and there are many bars to sit at night. If you want to try Jiaxing zongzi, you can try the Zhenzhen Laolao Zongzi in Yuehe, and there's also a Zongzi Culture Museum to visit.

Jiaxing | Its waters curve around the city like a crescent moon, forming the Yuehe Street District
Choose a spring weekend morning to arrive at Yuehe, and take in the sight of small bridges, flowing water, and thousands of weeping willows before the district gets busy, immersing yourself in the springtime of the south of the Yangtze River.
After visiting the Zongzi Culture Museum, it's perfect to have a zongzi for breakfast. Exiting the museum, turn left and climb up the He Yue Bridge to see the Grand Canal of Beijing-Hangzhou passing through the southern side of the street district, and gaze at the millennium prosperity of Jiaxing from afar.
Then stroll along the shop-lined Zhongji Road, and at the end of it, take a turn to find the vibrant flower and bird market. If you time it right, you might also catch the excitement of the antique market.
📝 | Travel Guide

Impressions of Yuehe Ancient Town
Visiting Jiaxing, one must take a look at Yuehe Ancient Town. Yuehe is a tributary of the Grand Canal from Beijing to Hangzhou, named for its bending river that embraces the city like a crescent moon. Yuehe has been surrounded by the northern part of Jiaxing city, and since the Ming and Qing dynasties, it has already formed a bustling market area. The architectural complex here is all antique, exuding the charm of the Jiangnan region.

Jiaxing | The cloudy Moon River also has the charm of the Jiangnan region
🚗 The Moon River Historical District is one of the most intact, largest, and most reflective of the residential and cultural characteristics of the Jiangnan water towns in the urban area of Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. The district is based on the parallel layout of 'three rivers and three streets'—the 'Grand Canal', 'Outer Moon River', and 'Inner Moon River' run almost parallel to each other and converge near the North Li Bridge, creating a spatial layout with distinctive features; 'Zhongji Road', 'Tan Alley', and 'Xiushui Pocket Street' became bustling commercial areas due to their proximity to the canal and the prefectural city. In the past, 'Zhongji Road' was lined with shops on both sides, bustling with merchants and traders.
🚗 The winding alleys and streets crisscross, and the narrow rivers, old residential houses, and other features restore and display the strong ancient town style of the water town. Inside the scenic area, there are attractions from six major venues including the Jiangxi Guild Hall, Goldfish Yard, Dachang Pawnshop, Jiahe Water Post, Gao Gongsheng Soy Sauce Garden, and the God of Wealth Hall. The Moon River District is an ideal place to explore the old appearance of the Jiangnan prefectural city while enjoying the prosperity of century-old brands.
🚗 I've been to Jiaxing several times but never visited Moon River. This time I made an appointment with a local friend to take a tour and have a meal. I originally thought it was just an ordinary ancient town, but I didn't expect it to be quite large. There is an area that seems to be uninhabited, but I feel it has the original atmosphere of the ancient town (but my local friend told me it's a bar street, quiet during the day and lively at night).
🚗 The picture is a corner of the ancient town, a place I really like, with the charm of 'small bridges over flowing water and households'. If you go there, be sure to check it out!

National Series 8 Jiaxing Yuehe District
🌈Highlight Features:
The Yuehe District is based on the parallel layout of the "Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal", "Outer Yuehe", and "Inner Yuehe". The street space layout is very distinctive, with small alleys and streets winding and crisscrossing, and narrow rivers and alleys.
🚗Strategy Introduction:
The entire Yuehe Ancient Street is not large, basically a long rectangular area from east to west. It is recommended to enter from the south gate, where you can see the original Beijing-Hangzhou Canal channel. Not far inside is the Goldfish Pond, and then you can go to the Inner River to see the ancient street style.
🎫Ticket Information:
Free
✨Travel Suggestions:
The Goldfish Pond will be backlit in the morning, it is best to shoot in the afternoon. If you are taking pictures, you can go to a small stone bridge on the far east. Portrait photography with the background of the water town will be very effective. The play time is 1 hour, and you can also visit the Zicheng Ruins Park and the Catholic Church

Yuehe Historical District
Yuehe Historical District, being born in Jiangnan, I will never find such an ancient town strange, but still love it. I like to look for some childhood memories, some shadows of the past, and some dreamy water towns among the small bridges, flowing water, and pink walls and black tiles. Here is not busy, nor deserted, just the right quietness can let the leisurely thoughts walk, look, stop, everything is so easy-going, free-minded. When tired, sit on the river bank next to the small stone bridge, let the breeze blow by, the quiet water under your feet flows deep...
